Midway has released a new high-resolution renders of Shao Kahn and Darkseid the main villians from the upcoming Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe.

Midway also released another Developer Diary today entitled "Crossing the Finish Line". This posting is by Hans Lo and discusses the efforts that go into the final weeks before the game's release. Here's a snippet:

Well we all are getting to enjoy sleeping in our own beds again, leaving the office at normal hours and getting reacquainted to our friends and family who have been oh so patient with us in letting us indulge in our passion for making games. It's funny to look around the team members now and remember what they all looked like at the beginning of the project. As for me, I finally got to get a haircut and some solid sleep. I no longer look like a B-movie zombie. Little kids no longer run away from the sight of me…

Midway Games Inc. today announced that Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe has gone gold and is scheduled to be available in retail stores throughout North America on November 16, 2008, and throughout Europe on November 21, 2008. The next chapter in the venerable Mortal Kombat series, Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe showcases powerful heroes and villains from two vastly different universes.

For the first time in the series, players will step outside the Mortal Kombat universe to assume the heroic identities of world-renowned characters from the DC Universe, including SUPERMAN, BATMAN and WONDER WOMAN, as they join video game icons such as Scorpion, Sub-Zero and Raiden. Making a fiendish appearance alongside their comic counterparts will be notorious DC Universe villains such as CATWOMAN, LEX LUTHOR and The Joker, who along with MK favorites such as Liu Kang, Sonya and Shao Kahn, all play a part in unraveling the mystery of what has caused these two universes to collide

"We are proud to release to manufacturing Mortal Kombat vs DC Universe, the culmination of two years of effort and a rewarding collaboration with our friends at Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment and DC Comics," said Ed Boon, executive producer and co-creator of the Mortal Kombat franchise. "So far the response has been overwhelmingly positive and enthusiastic, and I can't wait to get this into the hands of MK diehards and DC Comics fans alike when the game becomes available on Nov. 16 in North America and Nov. 21 throughout Europe!"

Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe is licensed by Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment, and will be available for the PLAYSTATION 3 computer entertainment system and Xbox 360 video game system and entertainment system from Microsoft.

A story on Videogamer.com reveals that perhaps the European version of Mortal Kombat vs DC Universe will featured the fully uncensored version of The Joker's fatality. Senior Producer, Hans Lo, spoke to Videogamer.com and revealed the details.

"That's partly true [that the fatality has been edited]... You know, for North America we have a Teen rating, and teen really means 13 and above. Thirteen is pretty young, you have to admit. For Europe we have a 15, 16+ rating - so it's a bit different."

When pushed further about whether or not different cuts of the game exist, Lo replied: "I don't know, maybe! I think you might have to go take a look."

The PLAYSTATION 3 version features no region locking with respect to video games; therefore, quite a few people might be interested in buying an European copy on the gray market.

Today marks the official release date of Mortal Kombat vs DC Universe in the United States. You should be able to find the game at your local video game retailer starting today for both the Sony PlayStation 3 or Xbox 360. The regular edition retails for $59.99 and the Kollector's Edition is retailing for $69.99. In my experience, not a lot of stores actually have more than a limited few copies of the Kollector's Edition so better go pick up yours today if you hadn't pre-ordered.

For those who can't decide between the two versions of the game, here is a quick rundown of what that edition contains. In addition to the game itself, it comes with: a velvet keepsake box, removable Alex Ross cover art, John Tobias drawn "Beginnings" comic and a bonus DVD of behind the scenes content on the game. Here is also the un-boxing of the KE for your viewing pleasure:

Since I got home with the game this morning, I've watched the entire disk of DVD extras. It's well worth the extra $10 alone because it has a wealth of information. From the casting & interiewing of real actors for the cinematic motion capture, the entire Comic-Con 2008 Panel with Ed Boon and Jimmy Palmiotti of DC comics and in depth artwork and design concept creation.

Also here is a look at the Gamestop Preorder bonus T-Shirt and the Prima Strategy Guide by Jason Wilson which is also now available.

There is also a limited Kollector's Edition only for the Sony PlayStation 3 out today as well. I would assume the Kollector's Edition is even more limited in Europe than it is in the United States, so better go pick up yours today if you hadn't pre-ordered.
