Massacre at Elementary School

Instead of gun control, I instead suggest arming the faculty and staff of ALL public schools! That way we don't have people forced to bring a knife to a firefight when it comes to protecting the students!

You think this is just a troll post, but there is at least one lawmaker here in Texas suggesting that teachers should at least be ALLOWED to carry guns.

Of the few massacres that happen in the US per year, there are still millions of people walking around with guns who don't go out and blow people away. Some incidents happen and people are quick to point the finger, as if it is the biggest issue ever.

If you check the stats pertaining to deaths in the US since January 1, 2012, guns ranks LAST on the list. Tobacco, alcohol, car accidents, drugs, and even doctor errors rates higher.

Exactly. We don't need to hall off and change our gun policies (by loosening or tightening regulation) because of ONE incident. There are almost 100,000 schools in the US, so this isn't a common issue. The fact that it involves kids strikes a nerve harder and with more people, but that doesn't change the ultimate fact that one such occurance should change things for everyone else.

Not surprising, since Texas is among the most gun-friendly states. If the Feds manage to pull off this gun control bullshit, I hope our state secedes from the US!

And I agree with arming our teachers! This school shooting was done by someone who stole his mother's guns and forcefully broke into the school! You don't think for one second that the damage could've been reduced, or even prevented, had at least ONE person on campus been armed?

^^I wonder what would happen if Texas secedes from the US.

So guys, my school is getting threats of a massacre happening this Friday. Should I go to school or not ?

Eh, bomb threats and stuff like that happen all the time. My schools have had 3 bomb threats so far and once threat that someone was going to enter the school and stab as many people as he/she could.

If you want to play it safe, don't go, but I doubt it's going to happen. It's probably an idiot playing a prank.

If people are making the claim, you should really going to the police with this....whether it is it just a bunch of shit talking asswipes or not, it is better to be safe, especially since a lot of people are really going to be doing stupid things on Friday.

I'm perfectly fine with arming of school personnel. The schools I attended from middle school and up, employ at least one armed police officer, but I'm not sure if this is universal. However, most students who are not at the college level have no business carrying a gun in the first place, since they have to be at least 18 to own a firearm in general.

I remember a time when some guy threatened to "pull a Columbine" after getting teased. It was hollow threat though, since nothing happened.

I know for a fact that secession has been a hot button issue in Texas for the last few years now, and it even made headlines post-election when a petition on the White House's website involving this issue gained in excess of 100,000 signatures (according to website policy, a petition with 25,000 signatures requires a timely response from the White House). Actually, all 50 states had secession petitions on the White House webpage since the election, but Texas by far has the most signatures. I hope it doesn't come to it, but every one of us knows what happened the last time any states seceded from the US, which is why I think secession should be strictly reserved as a last resort. I will say this, though; gun rights are DEFINITELY worth going to war with the Federal government for. The first shots fired in the American Revolution were the direct result of a Redcoat attempt at confiscating weapons from a Colonial militia (plus, civilian disarmament has historically been linked to totalitarian government).

As for the second sentence...if you have ANY reason to believe your life may be in danger at school, skip! Your life is more important than your education, and you can always talk to this with either your school counselors or your school administrators later. A truancy charge is worth a LOT more to you than being six feet under. Trust me, I've been in your shoes. The Columbine massacre happened towards the end of my Freshman year in High School, and I did consider skipping school a few times because of fear that it might happen to me. 9/11 happened my Senior year, and I considered the same thing then, too. However, my High School has always had a few cops on campus the whole time I was in High School, so I at least did feel safe on a daily basis.

Even if people thought it was a prank, I still wouldn't go. People aren't always right. Is one day of school really worth it?

Whenever we see a high-profile school shooting like this, school administrators are always on edge, and take even the slightest hint of a threat very seriously. About a week after Columbine happened, a friend of mine got in-school suspension for making a sarcastic threat after being told he "reminded someone of the Trench Coat Mafia." And I even heard about threats being called in to schools on the local news last night. This kind of shit either turns out to be a bluff, or whoever made the threat was stupid enough to announce that threat to begin with, but it still should be taken very seriously. I stand by what I said about skipping school if you feel that your life may be in danger if you go. You can always remediate your acedemics, but once you lose your life, you lose it forever!

There is apparently a strange connection between this school shooting, and the theatre shooting in Colorado.

Both kids' dads were highly involved with the Libor Scandal.

I just read this article and I'm not saying that this is 100% what I think about it but I did have a feeling when they were reporting differnt things during the 1st couple days and then they started focusing on the assault rifle bit. Also weird story blasting video games on some news channels with bogus "most popular games" claims they listed CoD Black ops Declassified for the vita but showed the Black ops II for xbox box art like WTF everyone knows the vita version is garbage then they throw in GTA IV?

EDIT: La-li-lu-le-lo

I can see it now.

Ignorant News Reporter:
"He had a collection of violent video games, such as Mortal Kombat, Call Of Duty, Battlefied and other games in his library."

Nevermind the fact that he might have just been a crouton short of a salad, or just a complete nutbag, right???
IT'S 2012, AND WE'RE STILL BLAMING VIOLENT ACTS ON VIDEOGAMES!!!

REALLY???

Just as I F***ING predicted.
Let's blame the violent vidya games, as opposed to the shitty parents who can't be parents.
Sick and tired of these ignorant mothef***ers.
I've played Mortal Kombat for 20 years, and I'm not a crazy gun-toting nutbag that wants to kill people.
These stupid f***s are SO misinformed. :reddy:

The fact that it's the NRA, of all groups, pointing the finger at video games is quite shocking to me. I would've thought it would be some out-of-touch politician.

The most common knee-jerk reaction to this kind of shit is to look for scapegoats, whether they be hard rock/heavy metal music, video games, or even the Second Amendment itself. Every time they link hard rock/heavy metal to a suicide or mass murder, this shit ends up in court, and every time, the lawsuit ultimately fails (for instance, Ozzy Osbourne was infamously sued over a kid's suicide allegedly linked to the song "Suicide Solution", and it turns out that song was taken out of context from the very start, as evidenced by the opening lyrics "wine is fine but whiskey's quicker suicide is slow with liquor"...that song was specifically about alcohol, and was written in the aftermath of AC/DC frontman Bon Scott's alcohol-related death).

As for the video game issue, tragedies like this can no longer be legally used as a pretext for video game regulation, thanks to Brown v EMA which was decided last year in favor of the gaming industry on First Amendment Grounds! And besides, it's a pretty flawed logic to begin with. Are we going to start calling for Mario to be pulled off the shelves because "the mushrooms promote drug abuse among children"? Because that's exactly the same logic that's being applied here.

The most effed up shit here is the fact that Marilyn Manson was among the foremost scapegoats for Columbine, despite the fact that it was later revealed that Klebold and Harris did not like him because they thought he was a "sell-out", yet the latter half of his namesake, Charles Manson, openly admitted his actions were directly influenced by the music of the Beatles (how else to explain the "Helter Skelter" shit?), yet no one takes THAT at face value due to Manson's own mental state.
