ENOUGH BATMAN CHARACTERS! like seriously about half the roster is filled with batman villans.
So far, the Batman villains in the game are:
-Joker (This is a given, having the game without him would be like having an MK game without Scorpion)
-Bane (Recently in a movie, so his popularity is up)
-Harley (One of the most popular female characters in all of comics)
-Catwoman (Not really a villain these days, but she too was in The Dark Knight Rises, and once again, one of the most popular females in all of comics)
That's 4 characters...surely 4 isn't half the roster, or even "about half the roster". A roster of 24-26, with another 4-8 DLC characters...that's merely a sixth of the roster.
So no, I don't see where the complaints are justified, pun intended.
Batman is one of the most iconic and popular character in not only the DCU, but in comic books as a whole. He has without a shadow of doubt, the best assortment of villains as a whole. Find any "Top 100 DC characters" or even "Top 100 Comic Book Villains", and I would bet at least 8-10 of them are on that list.
With all this said, it really comes down to:
1. Does the character have story purpose?
-These characters aren't just thrown in there for no reason. They never promised to have an equal amount of characters from the many sub franchises within the DCU. They are picking who has story purpose. So if you see Catwoman instead of Mirror Master, Professor Zoom, or Cheetah, it's because she plays specific part that they wouldn't.
2. Popularity
-They want characters that can actually sell the game. Ed has said they want to make a franchise out of this, with more games to come. So in order to do that, you can't compile a game of generic C and D list characters, just for the sake of "variety". So why someone would be upset that Bane and Catwoman are included over Firefly and Copperhead, just doesn't make sense. They want people that can sell. Batman and his cast of characters sell.
3. Beyond Batman
-These characters are beyond Batman at this point. Joker has been a main DCU villain over the years. He isn't just a "Batman Villain". He's the most popular DCU villain altogether. You act as if they are putting in Man-Bat and Hugo Strange. Just having Batman villains for the sake of having them. Simply not the case. Catwoman and Nightwing have their own Comic Book Series. They are their own characters with their own set of supporting cast. They aren't just tag alongs to Batman, and haven't been for many years. Harley is featured in her own comic book called the "Suicide Squad" with other characters as well.
I'm so over this "TOOOO MANY BATMAN CHARACTERS!!!11" nonsense.
