Bored With MK 2011....??

I'm still playing MK9. I stopped for a week to play the new Fallout: New Vegas DLC and got drawn in for a bit, but after that I came right back. I'm actually learning to play MK9 now instead of just playing it, it's made a huge difference in my views on the longevity of this game. Hell, it's potentially gotten me far more into fighting games than I've originally intended. I'm prolly gonna go to Family Video and rent Marvel vs Capcom 3 and Tekken 6 to see just how much this game has broadened my horizons lol. MK9 is crazy-good and I'm still all over it.

Welcome to the darkside magnum, ssbm did to me what mk9 is doing to you. And believe your fighting game mentality and execution skills carry over. The game mechanics and options have way more to explore than the single player stuff.

Ever since conversing with you about other random things on this site I had a feeling your mentality would lead you down this road as you have a very good one.

I'm still playing the game. I enjoy it quite a bit and to be honest the DLC makes it a bit more special for me. I am however eagerly awaiting the patch to see if a few things have been resolved, but I'm a huge perfectionist, so I tend to nit pick at things a bit much.

I'm not bored, but the poor online network has killed my interest in the game. The DLC will boost my interest in tiny spurts, but unless the online is finally fixed, I likely won't play this game all that much.

No offense but that is one of the dumbest things I have ever heard (even if it was sarcasm).
No sarcasm on my part. I don't see what's dumb with what I said, but I'll try to clarify it:

What I'm saying is there's mainly 2 types of fighting game players:

1. People that play for fun and don't want to get better
2. People that want to get better at the game, learn the matchups and play offline (go to tournaments etc)

You are number 1; I am number 2. Simple as that. You get bored because you don't have that extra motivation to continue playing. For you, MK9 is "just a game" among many other games that you pick up and play for random lulz. For me, it's 28 matchups that I *have* to learn, it's a constant challenge, an evolving meta-game, a hobby that requires skill, execution, reflexes, focus and knowledge just like any other sport out there.

I don't get bored because I play it at higher levels. For me, getting bored of a fighting game is like some football player getting bored of football. Or a musician that gets tired of playing music.

Yeah well if you actually read the rest of my post you would realize that's pretty much what I said too. So big reading fail on your part. :p

Still love you Jade. :)

Def not bored. In fact I've probably become overly obsessed with it! I've yet to get past the third tower challenge. Done arcade ladder once with noob on expert and did the story mode. Unlocked all costumes and fatalities. The rest of my time has been in practice mode and online. Nobody nearby to play offline. Hell I bought a fight stick even! Currently practicing it.

On point. If all I cared about MK was unlocking everything and seeing all of the fatalities, then I would have been bored with it after 2 weeks. But I like to play against only the higher win ratio-ed online players, and also play competitively and for fun with my friends. I plan on going to the big tourney this weekend. I'm writing down strategies and combos. I haven't been this deep into a fighting game since UMK3.

The main reasons are that it is balanced, deep, and fun. Other reasons are it has a lot of people online (when it's working good), has most of the great old school characters (except Robot Smoke :( )

Some excuses people give for being bored might be that they don't have enough time or have other games to play at the same time. (Though anyone who plays semi-competitively would tell you the same.) But really anyone who is bored of MK9 wants to be bored of it. My friends and I have been playing Tetris and Super Puzzle Fighter Turbo against each other for over 15 years. They seem like simple games, easy to get bored of. But when you play for fun and have some regular competition, it never gets boring.

The reason I see is that people don't play more deeply into MK9 is bad online and small/no local competition (friends don't play it and/or rural area). But that's all the more reason to look on the web for other local gamers/tournaments to play at.

That's the KEY word right there, though.

I could play the hell out of MK 1, MK II, MK 3, UMK 3, MK 9, Metal Gear Solid 1, 2, 3 and 4; and NEVER get bored of those games.
It just depends on the person.

I could play MK and Metal Gear Solid until my eyes fall out of my head. ;-)

I disagree with you on that. I have lots a fun playing the game and that's one reason why I keep but I still want to get better so I kan go to future tournments as I get older. I already been told online I was the best Liu Kang they've ever fought. I still train with Liu Kang everytime I play but I still have a fun time with it. I beat DCP's Reptile with my Liu Kang but he's Johnny is really good and murdered my Kang. My Sub-Zero almost beat his Johnny Cage though. Like I said, I plan to get better. I ask him for advice now after a fight we have kause I want to get better but I still play the game for fun a lot. I don't know why you said people who just want to have fun don't want to get better. Not every person who wants fun doesn't want to get better.

But I don't know anything about the gameplay mechanics or what this character or that character kan do. I just plan to get better and I have without knowing all that stuff. You know what I mean?

I'm pretty sure you have a good and fun time playing the game. You still play it;).

I edited it to the games I play.
I still play those games a lot. I wanna get my hands on MK1. Haven't played that game in almost a year.

If you're already bored with it I'd suggest you get a life. Maybe some sun. lol

You talk like you know what everyone in this thread life is like.

I shall never bekome bored of MK9. It is just awesome, even if the online is krappy right now. The DLC's are koming and that should make it even better.

Now this is one of the dumbest things I've heard. It's been out for 2 months which is easily enough time to unlock everything in the krypt and beat the challenge tower in gradual doses of playing it. I love the game but because of the bad online, I only really play it when friends are over at this point. I could try to see the ladder endings for each character but just don't feel like it. It always depends on the person's interest and not necessarilly how much you play the game. I think skill level is defenitely a factor too.

Sometimes, I like to play different games. I Play this game a lot but sometimes I feel like playing something else.. you need to balance it because if you play the same thing over and over, of course you'll get bored.

Is it just me, or does anyone else share the same thoughts on this matter as I do? I played the new MK for about 3-4 weeks after it's debut, shortly after I became bored with it.....I mean, I play MK2 for PSN more and am more excited for the Arcade Kollection this summer. Don't get me wrong, MK 2011 is an outstanding game, but it just doesn't really hold my interest as much as I would've expected.......Maybe it's just me?? Any thoughts??

I was more excited about the HD Kollection, but I'm debating about buying it at all now. I only want UMK3 and the lack of HD is really disappointing, but the auto-block jabs kills the game for me. They're obviously not gonna delve into the source codes to fix it, so the game is essentially ruined for me.

I'm probably gonna stick to the new game for a long time instead. It's not boring at all.

same here. i don't have a wide variety of friends to play offline and attending tournaments can be expensive.

good man. That is what a good fighting game does to you. Tekken 6 and MvsC 3 are awesome games also. Both have strong juggle systems like Mk 9.

Had the game for two months now and I can never stop talking about it. Am I bored of it? Hell no! But sometimes I like to split my time with MK 2011 and my other games (i.e. Black Ops).

I've already beat story mode about three times already and going for the fourth time, completed the Challenge Tower, beat Arcade with half the roster, found all four secret battles, unlocked everything in the Krypt, and I'm sitting at 74% on my Trophy list.

Now I'm just trying to learn more about the mechanics so I can take my skills to the tournament level. (Won a local GameStop tournament at the midnight release).

Will I ever become bored with this game? I doubt it. The only MK game that I got bored at was MKA, due to the fact that I was a teenager around the time it came out.

I'm not bored at all. I still play ladder. I still replay challenges. I'm all over the online when I have time.

Of course! The only reason I put 'almost' is because it depends on the person, as you said. For me, I am a Resident Evil freak, so those games never get boring, whereas my brothers have gotten bored of the series altogether, though they still like it, but they just feel it has been the same shit over and over again (which it has, really, lol). I just don't think saying someone isn't 'hardcore' just because they get bored of a game is silly. I LOVE fighting games, and fighting (as well as racing) games are my highest played games....so I am suddenly less of a 'hardcore fighting fan' just because I found MK9 boring? I don't get how that logic works....I still play the original 2D MK games as well so....yeah, I don't get what it takes to be a 'hardcore fighting fan' if finding MK9 boring after a few weeks of play = not hardcore:/

Just to be clear, I don't consider myself hardcore anything (except metal music and Resident Evil ;P) because, well, what IS hardcore? Do you have to play the game every second of every day? Do you have to know every little detail about it? Do you have to own everything ever made that relates to the game? I just think hardcore is very subjective. I suppose that if you eat, sleep, shit and breathe something, you are pretty hardcore. Other than that, yeah, a bit silly (not sure if his comment was sarcasm but, regardless, I am just using it for discussion, not saying he really meant it because I have no idea)
