Will the Wii U get respect from the fighting community?

A more powerful machine means developers can theoretically push limits of their games. It's not limited to improvement in graphics, but also game physics, advanced AI, larger scaled worlds, or whatever is relevant to that particular game. However, such potential is wasted more often than not, which is why there is no substitute for a good designer.

Case in point; the Sega Saturn had 2 CPUs and 6 other processors, which on paper made it a stronger console than the PlayStation and N64. Turns out this backfired on Sega, as third party developers had trouble programming for the Saturn. As a result, multiplatform titles such as Tomb Raider and Resident Evil actually turned out better on PlayStation. Is it any coincidence that the Saturn was discontinued in Western markets 3 years after launch?

I'm not going to tolerate a flame war over a god damned video game console, so please cool it with the insults.

I think this kind of thinking needs to stop everybody believes the Wii is the only thing Nintendo can do. Nintendo was a core oriented console once before and can be again. The WiiU has taken steps toward this and I believe they have all kinds of surprises in store for the core gamer that includes the fighting community as well

Wait...what kind of thinking?

Where did I say anything about the Wii being the only thing Nintendo can do?

I have a lot of Nintendo consoles and handhelds. I am not knocking the systems at all, it's just has a basic reputation of gearing more towards kids. Not 100%, but mostly.

X-Box and PS3 have a lot more 'mature' games so people take those consoles more seriously than Nintendo. Nintendo has always been a family fun kinda console.

I guess more judgement should be reserved before we speculate on it.

Who knows. WiiU may have stellar online services, nearly lagless. That'd be pretty sick, though it wouldn't sway any offline scene guys.

One thing I'm worrying about, does the WiiU have controller slots/multiple USB ports? Wireless controllers are usually banned from tourneys since it takes too much time to sync them or whatever.

I don't think it's the time to sync them that's the issue, the issue is. someone not UNSYNCING them when they leave. and while your playing a tourney match they hit dat old PS button. interrupting their match.

Yes kids played Mario, Kirby and Zelda ect; but it wasn't really considered a "family fun console " until the Wii was released which is the point I'm trying to make. People think that the Wii is what Nintendo is a casual company geared toward children but that is not true at all. The Wii was a business move from Nintendo because Microsoft and Sony where competing for the same market the core gamer. At that time (2006)no company thought about the casual gamer except Nintendo but now everyone (Microsoft kinect, Playstation Move, IOS tablet and phone companies) is competing for the casual market leaving most of the core fewer titles to choose from. I believe that Nintendo sees this as an open opportunity to win back the core while still catering to the Wii fans all in one console.

So which one of you (un)lucky bastards is getting one tomorrow?

Theres no game that I really want on launch (horrible launch if you me, at least the original Wii had Zelda)
But I kinda just want to buy it to get it out of the way cause I'll know I'll end up getting one eventually for future games. Plus I honestly just want to try out the new controller.

However for me personally, I'm not going to go and just buy any random Wii U.
If there isnt any more Black Delux set Wii U's left, then I aint buying it. I'll just wait for more to come whenever that will be. Delux comes with the kickass pro controller and has more memory I believe. And to tell you the truth, White looks downright shitty. Looks like a leapfrog toy. Yet the Wii U looks suprisingly cool Black. I know the color thing may sound picky, but its true.

I picked mine yesterday at walmart along with super mario bros u and Im getting zombie u in the mail tommorow. I'm really loving the tablet style controller ( I'm using it for this post ) it does some pretty cool things with your tv (you can program it to be your tv remote ) it's really lite to be as big as it is. The games are really strange to play but in a good way because you find yourself starring at the controller screen more than the Tv. In Call of Duty BLOPS2 you can use the controller as a second screen which is awesome for coop modes. I definitely see Nintendo coming up with some good stuff in the future for Wii U. I only have played it a day but I don't regret the purchase at all.

I'm waiting on this one ofr now. I want to make sure all of the bugs have been worked out before I go all in on a WiiU

I have the deluxe Wii U and it does not come with a pro controller ( I wish it did :( ) The deluxe comes with a bigger hard drive (32 Gb) and Nintendo land but I'm sure Nintendo will do bundle deals in the future.

Although I want this console for reasons directly connected to consumer rights (although I am rather shocked that some gamers (not mentioning names here, but you know who you are) are willing to let these developers treat them like another dollar sign simply because they like the "gimmicks"; your wallet speaks louder than your mouth, people), I'll be waiting until next year at the earliest. I have never gotten a console on launch. I typically wait for better titles to come out and the price to come down a bit before I buy. I did not have an NES until 5 years after launch (I was just turning 2 when the NES originally launched, so it took me a few years to know what a Nintendo even was), I didn't have a SNES until 3 years after launch, and I have gotten the original PS, N64, PS2, and PS3 one year after launch, so I think it would be a smart idea for me to continue this trend.

The fault is entirely on the user end! Do NOT turn your machine off while it is still updating, and this shit won't happen, plain and simple! Nintendo even warned users in plain English about that! And if it's taking too long, just watch some effin' TV while you're waiting!

There's a world of difference between a defective product and stupid people, and this is clearly a case of the latter!

Seriously. Doesn't it always say that on every console in huge letters?
"Please do not turn off your console while updating"

Yet people will feel inclined to blame someone else for their stupidity

I hope bricked consoles caused by people turning off their consoles during an update are NOT covered by warranty! This was 100% human error on the user end! You eff it up, you buy a brand new console out of your own pocket!

I don't think it is....they put the warning out there so I feel that they should be covered - Unless of course the power source is the cause of the power failure durring the update. Too bad for these folks that was not the case -- now all they can do with the wii u is facepalm the damn thing.
