SPOILER ALERT:Mortal Kombat X DIGITAL COMIC DISCUSSION

The last couple issue have been very exciting although they have not been the most action filled but also very informative IMO!

Kotal enlisting or rather accepting the help of The Black Dragon! Tremors debut was awesome, knocking (shaking) on the palace doors, being sent out alone and face Kintaro and causing a quake to topple the Shokan army. Was very happy with his debut.

Tasia looked amazing with her armored attired but in issue #21 she was back to her default attire. kinda sucked.

Kotal and Kano's confrontation was not intense but still a highlight & when Kano makes remarks about Cassie, Sonya replies she is a survivor and his reply was "So am I"! I was in awe with that response.

Havik in a pretty cheap disguise. Scorpion is gonna get some action...again!

Havik's logic. Just... Havik's logic.

"Bad things will happen if Raiden gets his hands on all the Kamidogu!!!"

Yes. And splitting the Kamidogu up among Earth's greatest champions was obviously the first step in Raiden's diabolical master plan to keep all the Kamidogu for himself. It's so counter-productive, no one will see it coming!

:marchmellow:

I doubt it. The only playable characters to die so far have been Hsu Hao and Mavado. As boring as Shujinko is, he's not nearly as low on the totem pole as those two mooks.

I have a vague sense that Cassie's ending is the last word on Shujinko we're ever going to get. Same with Takeda/Kenshi's and Daegon/Taven. I mean, the comic might fill in the gaps if it continues post-MKX storyline, but.

That's cool and all that Scorpion's getting a lot of action, but I hope others get as much shine too.

Would love to see Sub-Zero kick some more anuses.

What do you mean by "last word"? Are you predicting that Shujinko won't appear in the comic again in the ten years leading up to MKX?

As for Daegon, Kittelsen's story could certainly veer in the way of a Takahashi family reunion down the line. If it does I would fully expect Daegon to become a prominent comic character well before then, so that the climactic resolution has weight for more than just Kenshi and Takeda.

The good news is it's conceivable that Scorpion will take a break once he beats the shit out of Havik. The bad news is this fight coming up probably isn't the one that wraps their story. It's just here to set up the fight that will wrap up their story.

It could be worse, though. Kittelsen can write the crap out of Scorpion, and importantly enough he's not above taking a couple of shots at the guy (his touchiness about any career defeats).

No, I mean I think those ladder endings are probably the last time we'll see those characters addressed in an actual game. So the comics are free to do whatever with them, I imagine, no matter how important they were to the previous timeline -- but they'll have to survive the comics until they catch up to MKX, so that the ladder endings are possible.

Ah! Yes! I think that's a good estimation of things.

I really think Daegon and Taven are going to be playable in MK11. They are demigods and the world of MK will throw in what it has best for a showdown.

Plus, I really like them! :)

Chapter 22 summary ahoy!

Spoiler:
After the preview, Shujinko reveals to the uneasy Takeda that Kenshi came to the Kang Temple after he left his son with the Shirai Ryu. Shujinko also mentions Daegon, Kenshi's "mortal enemy", and how Takeda's father ended up choosing war with the Red Dragon over his own family. Meanwhile, Hanzo brushes off Havik's accusations against Raiden and goes to take the Kamidogu, only to find that it's an illusion. Havik comments that Shujinko wouldn't just leave the Kamidogu out in the open, and when Hanzo demands that the cleric tell him where it is, Havik swears that he doesn't have it and he'll tell Hanzo the truth about Raiden and everything else. Havik reveals that he knows Raiden is corrupt... because he's the one who corrupted him, as he rips off the bottom half of his face! Havik also admits that he corrupted all of the Kamidogu's victims, and that with Takeda not there, Hanzo is next! Speaking of Takeda, at the same time, he finds himself attacked by a possessed Shujinko, armed with the Kamidogu of Chaos!

At the Sky Temple, Fujin returns to find Raiden brooding near the Jinsei. Fujin reports that the retaining seals at the Netherrealm border are intact, and there is no trace of Quan Chi or his revenants. However, Fujin admits that there is something else that concerns him... while they've kept Earthrealm's borders repaired and reinforced, they've neglected the place between realms: Shang Tsung's island. Fujin brings up the possibility that the blood demon used it to slip into Earthrealm, and says that when he tried to go there, he found himself repelled by retaining seals similar to Raiden's. Raiden is disturbed by this news, and then tries approaching the Jinsei energy... only to find himself repelled! Raiden confesses that the Jinsei has been rejecting him since this morning, and Fujin realizes it is because the Jinsei can still sense the Kamidogu's influence within him. Raiden tells Fujin that they have three Kamidogu safe in the Sky Temple, and they must warn Johnny and Sonya due to Outworld's shared vulnerability to Shang Tsung's island!

At the Z'Unkahrah docks, Kotal Kahn's servants are loading a massive ship with supplies. Sonya thinks this to be a waste of time, but Johnny retorts that they don't know what's waiting for them on Shang Tsung's island. Sonya confesses that she's just worried about what's might have happened to Cassie, and as Johnny tries to lend his support, Sonya notices something that raises her ire: a Black Dragon crate! Sonya opens the crate to find some sort of bomb inside, and is not happy about this, but Kotal then arrives on the scene and asks Sonya if something is the matter. As Johnny whispers that Kotal's their only means of getting to Cassie and Jacqui, Sonya lies that she was just making sure the crates were properly packed, and Kotal tells her and Johnny to come onboard the ship. Sonya and Johnny comply, still not happy about what they just found.

On Shang Tsung's island, Reiko is well aware of the forces converging on the island and instructs Skarlet to cut his chest with both of the Kamidogu that they have. Power then begins to course through Reiko's body, as Skarlet also takes in some by feeding upon Reiko's blood; Reiko promises that they will massacres their foes coming to the island, then conquer Outworld, then Earthrealm, and then finally slaughter the Elder Gods themselves!

Going with the direction, after this whole Blood God fiasco by taking down Reiko, I'm guessing this is how the Accords nonaggression pact between Earthrealm and Outworld was established before the events of the game take place.....

Man, that Sonya is just.....a nasty b..ch.:sheep:

The man offers her all the help he can to get her daughter back, even chooses to extradite Kano, though he isn't obliged to do so by any means, but Sonya keeps ranting about why he would take a formidable weapon to the battle with one of the most powerful warriors in the realms.

She's insane. Why do people put up with her anymore? Why does Sonya still have fans? :bird::)

Does it feel like to anyone else that they basically just gave Reiko Shinnok's motivations? Also am really not feeling Fujin with pupils, really hope they correct that with the next chapter. It's a minor nitpick, but an issue nonetheless

That scene where Havik shows his true colors is epic. Very well drawn.

Funny that they never drawn the Jinsei Chamber with the ancient feel it has, but it looks...modern.

And the first time the Sky Temple appeared, it was exactly like on Deception.

Very good that they expanded the vision and showed how it is nowadays, notice that, in the game, we are fighting on Deception Sky Temple's second floor (the one with the death trap).

And at the least that is faithful, in the game you can see that it's really this way: enormous collumn with many Deception-like temples.

(just make Raiden's outfit correct damn!)

Does it feel like to anyone else that they basically just gave Reiko Shinnok's motivations?

Every major villain in MK has exactly the same motivation, conquer the realms and kill the Elder Gods. Reiko just became a major villain. So... yes, he did get Shinnok's motivation... and Shao Kahn's... and Quan Chi's... and Shang Tsung's...

The art in this issue was shit. It takes a lot for me to say that, I didn't even complain about the seriously retro early issues with Kotal Kahn, but this was just beyond the pale. Characters' faces have ZERO detail unless they're the focus of the shot, some characters are just straight up get-it-off-the-page-fugly (Shujinko)...

Sonya's faces over the course of two pages, I especially love the profile shot where she inexplicably has an old crone nose.

This is even better, comparison pics of the same artist's drawings of Johnny and Sonya earlier in the comic (issue 9).

What. Are those supposed to be the same people?!

The action shots with Raiden could not possibly look less interesting. The visual progression from the Havik shot of him saying "I know this because" to the next shot where his skin is missing makes no sense, I can't tell if he's supposed to have literally ripped the skin off (which would be pretty cool) or willpowered it off by channeling his inner chi as the hands-to-the-forehead on the previous page imply.

Awful, awful stuff. I'm getting worked up just talking about it.

But in the interest of objectivity, as Yellow Ledbetter said, Havik's reveal was well drawn. So... one well drawn page out of 20.
