SPOILER ALERT:Mortal Kombat X DIGITAL COMIC DISCUSSION

And the makers of that game say the comic is canon. Accept it.
Weren't they the same people who said MKSM was canon, despite MASSIVE contradictions to the Source Material that CLEARLY said otherwise?

They've lied to us before about what's canon. And if Kittelsen DID have a legit explanation for the contradictions, then he would've given ALL of them to us on April 14, 2015.

No, he'd wait for the comic to give those explanations because they're part of the story, regardless of whether or not impatient folks like you want every answer now even if that means spoiling developments in the comic.

Also, NRS could have easily made MKSM the new series canon if they wanted, although they did go back on that. But it doesn't matter, because unless they declare the comic non-canon, it's canon.

Mileena was overthrown FIVE years ago, not 15 because the Source Material says so.

Shokan Uprising

- Wow, underwhelming resolution much? We get an entire issue devoted to Sonya's dudes getting chopped up, but essentially the entire Shokan army is defeated in one panel with Tremor and another with Kano?

- I like that Kittelsen likes Kotal, but killing a couple dozen Shokan, then King Gorbak, then defeating Kintaro (off-panel!) and then taking down Kano, all like it's nothing and within the space of a day or two, is getting to be a bit much for me. If Kittelsen wants Kotal to be one of the toughest mofos the MK universe has ever seen, there's nothing wrong with that, but other characters in-universe need to start acknowledging it. Otherwise he's just beating everyone because the plot calls for it... and Kotal winning things isn't exactly an interesting new plot.

Kanon Shujinko

- Once a complete tool, always a complete tool? Wow, poor guy. Between Cassie's ending and him turning out to be a gullible fool in the comic as well, this dude just can't get no respect.

Kintaro

- Can we agree that he's never looked sexier? I think they should go whole hog with the savage lion thing, get some Rengar or Ajani in him, make him look less like Goro's pitiable cousin, and maybe that'll be a character worth keeping around.

Tremor

- Is getting locked up in the dungeon of the palace which he can then bring down from within, which he just threatened to do a few seconds ago? I dunno about that.

Mileena

- Feels somehow less megalomaniacal. Cool stuff.

Shang Tsung's Island

- Oh shiieet. Sonya and Johnny, Kotal and D'Vorah, Scorpion and Takeda, Reiko and Havik, Cassie and Jacqui, and enough Red Dragon mooks for everyone. This could get messy.

Johnny Cage Kombat Watch Kontinues!

- It has been 2 issue since Johnny Cage tried to hurt anyone.

- Sonya shoots Tremor in the back, Kotal beats the shit out of Kano, Johnny spectates.

There's only one thing wrong with Kintaro: two arms.

And what the hell with Havik's face? Maybe something to deceive Shujinko or...his real face?

Hahahah funny how they make Hanzo always find an excuse to justify his losses on kombat.

This comic had one of the best designs so far. Mileena looks perfect.

About Ermac, Ok, we will have explanations, but what's the need of doing confusing s*it? A: none.

Ermac betrayed Mileena right when she was overthrown. In fact, Ermac directly contributed to the coup. Says so in the game's Story Mode. How is him aiding Mileena against Kotal Kahn canon again? And don't give me that spy shit. We know he betrayed her right to her face.

It really is a shame that NRS can't render good hair, because for the first time ever, Mileena is absolutely gorgeous

Wow, so everyone's on Reiko's ass. He's contending with Team Cage, Team Kotal/Kintaro, Team Mileena, and possibly (read: likely) betrayal from Havik. And he has an Accords named after him. Say your goodbyes.

We already went over this in this very thread ages ago; that being five years ago raises its own problems with the story.

I thought Havik was wearing a disguise, but Kittelsen said it was an art mistake and they're going to try to fix it.

And now he might have somehow got back in her good graces to act as a spy. We just don't know. You need to stop complaining about this so much when Kittelsen's already promised explanations. Let the comic tell its story rather than demanding answers right now because you're shocked characters don't stick in the exact same spots all the time in ten years.

You guys will never understand him. He doesn't actually believe the shit he says. He just gets off to your reactions.

Since Sonya's name has been dropped here a few times, has anyone seen her concept art from the Krypt? In one of her designs she was supposed to have a tattoo saying "Cage" with what I think was a pink butterfly background on her right hip. I unlocked it yesterday and nearly died from laughter. I've been trying to find a screen cap of it on the Internet but no luck so far.

I'm not a big fan of the inconsistencies. I mean, what the hell is going through Kittelsen's head when he places Ermac on Mileena's side and has Kotal vow never to ally with the Black Dragon, even though he does just that when the game's story begins? The story is losing me. I can't take it seriously when things don't add up.

Are you actually saying that a character isn't allowed to change his or her mind? Come on!

There's a ten year gap between the comic and the game. Ten years is a very long time. Many things happen in ten years.

Yeah, that's just dramatic irony. We know he will ally with them eventually, but he doesn't.

RE: Ermac, even if he is just spying, it's absurd for Mileena to trust him. She's crazy but she's not STUPID, and I find that to be poor characterization. She looks great, though.

Lol seriously. Ermac said "Screw you" and then attacked her during the coup scene. Why would she allow him back?

That's also a very large inconsistency with regards to the timeline of events. FAR too large for the comic to be considered canon.

I can think of at least one (crazy) scenario in which it would make sense for Ermac and Mileena to be BFFs again.

What if Mileena's escape from Kotal Kahn's dungeons wasn't an accident? What if Kotal asked Ermac to help Mileena's supporters (Tanya) break her out? Ermac would explain his siding with Kotal during the coup by saying that Kotal was going to win regardless, the only difference was whether Ermac ended up in a cell next to Mileena, or in a position where he could do something about her imprisonment.

Consider: it's clear from the comic and Kotal's chapter in MKX that Kotal Kahn does not consider Mileena any sort of threat. He does consider Reiko a threat, though, and maybe his hope was that by letting Mileena and Ermac escape, they would lead Kotal straight to Reiko.

Of course, this doesn't account for Ermac apparently going radio silent.

Anyway, that's all to say that I don't think all is lost just yet.

Okay, yeah. It often slips my mind that it's ten whole years and a lot can change. It just struck me as very odd that someone like Kotal would deal with Kano again after this. Yeah, the dude helped him win against the Shokan, but an alliance wouldn't be a good idea with this history of bad blood. And whoopdie-do, look what happens at the start of the game.

Then again, his new alliance with the Shokan is also built on bad blood, but I understand Kotal's reasoning there. He needs to stop the cycle of vengeance in regards to the Shokan because he needs allies, not more enemies.
