Every major villain in MK has exactly the same motivation, conquer the realms and kill the Elder Gods. Reiko just became a major villain. So... yes, he did get Shinnok's motivation... and Shao Kahn's... and Quan Chi's... and Shang Tsung's...
The art in this issue was shit. It takes a lot for me to say that, I didn't even complain about the seriously retro early issues with Kotal Kahn, but this was just beyond the pale. Characters' faces have ZERO detail unless they're the focus of the shot, some characters are just straight up get-it-off-the-page-fugly (Shujinko)...
Sonya's faces over the course of two pages, I especially love the profile shot where she inexplicably has an old crone nose.
This is even better, comparison pics of the same artist's drawings of Johnny and Sonya earlier in the comic (issue 9).
What. Are those supposed to be the same people?!
The action shots with Raiden could not possibly look less interesting. The visual progression from the Havik shot of him saying "I know this because" to the next shot where his skin is missing makes no sense, I can't tell if he's supposed to have literally ripped the skin off (which would be pretty cool) or willpowered it off by channeling his inner chi as the hands-to-the-forehead on the previous page imply.
Awful, awful stuff. I'm getting worked up just talking about it.
But in the interest of objectivity, as Yellow Ledbetter said, Havik's reveal was well drawn. So... one well drawn page out of 20.
Shujinko also seemed to have some kind of tumor on his forehead.

I need to stop reading the comics because Im seriously getting mad at this point. Fujin, Reiko, Havik, Skarlet. These characters should have been in the game
They 100% need to bring in the comic writer for MK11 cause this story is so much better than the crap story we got in the game

It should be either Tobias, Vogel, Boon, Forden, or nobody at all writing the MK story.

The notion that Kittelsen could come up with a better two and a half hour plot divided into 12 chapters with 4 fights per chapter is laughably unfounded.

Well he has already come up with a better story in the comics than what we got in the game. I would have much rather had the story from the comics be the MKX story. What we actually got in the MKX story was a rushed, half assed, mess of story mode that tried too hard to be a Michael Bay film. I never want this again. I would much rather go back to the open world stories like Konquest in previous games

The reason Kittelsen's story is good (to the extent that it is) is because he can take his time. The story he's telling does not and could not work as a story told in 12 chapters through 12 POVs with 4 fights each.
Well, that's neither here nor there, because we don't get to decide how NRS chooses to project their franchise onto the world. All we're discussing now is whether we can be totally certain that Kittelsen would be able to craft a better story within the constraints that NRS sets for its story.
For whatever my opinion is worth, if it's a matter of adding Kittelsen to an existing staff of writers, then I think they could benefit a lot from his presence. If it's a matter of putting him in charge... I wouldn't be as comfortable with that.

Having just read the issue -- this storyline is kind of goofy beyond belief. Shujinko's IM POSSESSED!!! AUEGHHDHEHGH!!!! panel was hilarious.
Loved that last splash page of Reiko and Skarlet, though.
