SPOILER ALERT:Mortal Kombat X DIGITAL COMIC DISCUSSION

Chapter 18 summary!

Spoiler:
After the preview pages, D'Vorah and Reptile slaughter some Shokan as Ferra/Torr are being pummelled by a two-headed Oni. Gorbak manages to pin Kotal against a wall with his sword, but Kotal grabs ahold of the Shokan king's face and tears off a chunk of flesh. As Gorbak reels, Kotal Kahn takes this opportunity to flatten Gorbak's head into a fine red mess with his bare hands! As D'Vorah and a wounded Reptile finish off the two-headed Oni, Kotal throws the Shokan's dead king in front of them, causing them to take the body and retreat.

As Kotal's forces regroup, Kotal makes clear how they only won by default, and will need to win by force in the next battle. He believes he needs to use more blood magik to win this war, something which D'Vorah is not happy to hear. Kotal orders D'Vorah to take Reptile to the infirmary, this being the perfect opportunity to tend to their wounded. Sonya and Johnny watch the scene, fearing that Kotal is getting ready for a last stand, and they need to rescue the girls as soon as possible and get back home. Johnny the suddenly collapses, revealing that a Shokan had bitten him in the stomach during the battle. Sonya tends to the wound and finds that while Johnny has lost a lot of blood, it didn't go deep, while the delirious Johnny tries to reassure her about Cassie's rebellious acts. Kotal sees all of this and, determined to honour his promises, orders D'Vorah to set sail for Shang Tsung's island the next day with the Earthrealmers and finish Reiko.

Meanwhile, at the Shokan camp, Gorbak's body is burned as a solemn Goro watches. Kintaro informs Goro that the Draco and Tigrar families have come to the decision that, due to Goro's injuries, he will not be allowed to ascend to the throne. Rather, after the war's end, a contest will be held to see who gets the crown. Goro wonders about his entering that contest, and Kintaro merely brings up his injuries and the fact that his father is no longer around to protect him. And so, Goro leaves the camp atop a buffalo-like creature, promising that he will return and make the Shokan council pay for their disloyalty.

Back at Kotal Kahn's palace, the emperor is horrified to find that his blood magik dagger is gone. In a complete state of panic, Kotal accuses D'Vorah of stealing it and begins choking her, but she pleads her innocence. Kotal finally lets D'Vorah go, and she promises to find the dagger, but Kotal can feel it is far from the city as his connection to it is fading. The emperor then proclaims a grim fact: Z'Unkahrah is doomed. Meanwhile, on Shang Tsung's island, Havik begins inspecting his brand new blood magik dagger, brought to him by Skarlet! Havik commends Skarlet on her thievery and how well Reiko did in recruiting her, while Skarlet voices her desire to learn blood magik from Havik. Havik promises that he will teach her, but he first wishes to extract an ancient power from one of their prisoners--a power that can only be taken if she fights. Havik then unlocks a dungeon door to reveal Cassie Cage!

Lots of developments in this one. Didn't expect that death so soon!

Wishes to extract an ancient power from one of their prisoners--a power that can only be taken if she fights. Havik then unlocks a dungeon door to reveal Cassie Cage!

I can already smell the inconsistencies. :dong:

- Johnny and Cassie's power is triggered by seeing someone they love about to die not by fighting.
- I'm pretty sure Havik will awake Cassie's powers, even if it is in a small capacity.
- Cassie doesn't know Dvorah or her powers. I'm again pretty sure they will meet.

Granted two of those have not happened.. Yet...

Johnny Cage has green energy all the time. The power boost he gets when Sonya is in danger isn't his green energy, it's his green energy going up to 11. Same goes for Cassie.

There would be absolutely nothing wrong with Cassie using green energy in a fight against Havik.

- Cassie doesn't know Dvorah or her powers. I'm again pretty sure they will meet.

You need to get off this "contradiction" train, man. You're just saying stuff that's plainly untrue at this point.

Nowhere in the game is it stated whether Cassie and D'Vorah know each other or not. It's not implied one way or the other. Their "introduction" is ambiguous enough that it works either way. I don't remember anything about Cassie not knowing D'Vorah's powers.

Just to point one thing out to those who don't have the comic is that Skarlet is wearing a new costume, make of that as you will.

Very disappointed that Gorbak died. I wish it could have been in a more heroic way, but I guess he can't dedicate too much time to this story arc. Also opens up some story opportunities for Goro.

Oh, and great to see that Torr's single panel in the comic was him being slammed against the wall. Hooray

Only to appease SJWs. The costume didn't even match her normal colors, it looks like she's wearing Cassie's default lol.

Ferra/Torr is getting beat up by an oni? :-( Can you describe that in more detail for me? Was Ferra just as hurt as Torr?

Do mine eyes deceive me, or did Johnny Cage throw a kick?!

Sure, it was against a mook...

In a throw-away panel...

And it didn't even land...

And then he got bit nearly to death...

Off-screen...

But it was a kick! I saw it! It happened! I see we're working with baby steps here. Maybe in the next issue, Johnny can get beat up by Reptile? Hype.

Cassie already shadowkicked Jacqui on one of the first issues, she even said she got the shadow kick from her dad, so she knows about her powers.

Wait, Skarlet is in the comics?! Can anyone post a picture of her in a spoiler tag? :3

Spoiler:
uKhAOyj.jpg

She works for havik and steals the kamidogu dagger from Kotal.

Wow... It looks like she stole some of Takeda's bodysuits and slapped a red loincloth on it. Looks really boring! What a disappointment. :/

I wonder what she'll be doing in the comic though. :3

Spoiler:
Maybe since we haven't heard from her either, she either dies or escapes!
I was hoping she'd be on Mileena's rebellion side. Doesn't look like she'd come back now that she's siding with Havik.
