snes all the way. genesis was inferior. the only thing genesis had going for it was the blood code in MK1. and that game was so broken and shitty it is easily forgot

SMW, SMRPG, FF IV & VI, CT, and TLoZIII all give the SNES a win by a long shot. These are some of my all-time favorites, and while the Genesis had some great stuff (Sonic, Phantasy Star II, III & IV and MK1), none of them held a candle to the SNES's exclusives.

You know Eks, you and I disagree on a lot of things, but I must say this post is spot-on.

Because of Out of this world, Super Mario World, MK 2, Killer Instinct, Contra Alien Wars, and arguably the best game ever, Super Metroid, Imma say SNES

Don't forget Zelda a Link to the Past.

SNES all the way for me, after the shitty MK1 it was nice to get a good MK2 but never got MK3 for my SNES I had moved to PC and PS1 for that game.

Yes, definitely the only console war that mattered. The rivalry produced some stunning games on most systems. I will say that SNES had more classic games, but the Genesis is not to be scoffed at. Streets of Rage 2 was MUCH better than Final Fight or any scrolling fighter on the SNES.

Super Nintendo is the best console to ever be made :)

I still like N64 better

and even though I like Genesis more than SNES, everything else nintendo did during their rivalry kicked Sega's ass. Genesis was the unexpected secret weapon. But sadly, anything else they made after that wasnt as good IMO. Saturn and Dreamcast had this bleh feeling to it. Mostly Dreamcast. I hated how all the games looked the same almost. I know it was still an older console, but I hated how the people looked on that console. (Crazy Taxi, Space Channel 5, Some random Fishing game) They all were bland and gave me a bad taste in my mouth.

my point is, even though I like Genesis better than SNES, I still like Nintendo's other consoles way better than anything else sega put out

The Saturn with the 4Meg catridge had arcade perfect games. Alpha 3 and all the Marvel Capcom games on the Saturn ran arcade perfect at 60 Htz. The Dreamcast was special as well. Code Veronica was the first Rez Evil game to be true 3D, still regarded today as the hardest Rez Evil game. Quake 3.. First online Console game. Dreamcast having online was massive for a console. Sadly the Dreamcast and N64 were the last great consoles along with the first PS1.

The Saturn was notable for SF Alpha 3, Darkstalkers: Vampire Saviour, Marvel Super Heroes, XMen vs Street Fighter and Marvel vs Streetfighter. Dreamcast was notable for SF III, Rez Evil: Code Veronica, Quake 3 and also two highly underrated RPG's in Grandia II and Skies of Arcadia.

SNES has to be one of , if not the most influential console everb
made. As good as the genesis was the SNES surpassed it in almost every department. Yes sega did have some more mature titles Splatter house and MK1 with blood. Graphically it smoked the genesis. If you think the genesis looked better it's because you didn't have an SNES and nostalgia is a ****ing lying ass hole!
Software wise SNES has it by a land slide. Chrono Trigger, Earth Bound, FF2 and 3. Zelda: A link to the past, super metroid, Super Mario World and All-Stars, Star Fox the list goes on.
Besides Sonic genesis didn't have titles or franchises that had longevity and can still sell millions of copies today.
Blast processing my balls!

I still have an SNES and a Genesis hooked up to my HD in the living room and I play both of them very frequent. I love the SNES for the nostalgic games that it had and the graphics for the time were amazing, but Genesis was a better system imo but by only a fraction.

Yes, definitely the only console war that mattered. The rivalry produced some stunning games on most systems.

the only other console war that maybe desrves to be mentioned is N64 vs Playstation. While they didnt make a big deal of rivalry for marketing like they did with Genesis and SNES, they still were both great consoles that were very different from eachother yet still pumped out classics. Sony though, still never found a mascot, and still dont till this day(**** kratos)
I guess they were going for Crash bandicoot as the mascot, and then came spyro, but those 2 great series are dead so looks like they didnt care too much about mascots

now theres people still trying to make a big console war between Xbox360, and PS3. But I really dont see the need for console wars anymore. As both of these consoles are almost exactly the same thing.Good exclusives dont come around as much anymore, and that's what fuels a console rivalry.(not to mention how we have PC gaming to balance things out as well) So console wars are pretty much a thing of the past, and that is why we should show respect for the Genesis vs SNES.

It's hard for to choose considering I grew up with both. They both have there pros and cons.

SNES:

Pros: Nintendo games, killer instinct, contra alien wars, ninja gaiden trilogy, sf2, sf2t, final fight, super double dragon...etc

Cons: Nintendo Censorship and being ahole to other companies and there employees. Bad ports(compared to Genesis).

Genesis:

Pros: Sega games Sonic, Streets of Rage 1-3, Golden Axe, Shinobi 1-3...etc SF2 Special Champion edition, Contra hard corps, normally have the better ports to games compared to SNES.

Cons: Lack of exclusives from 3rd party companies. That's pretty much it.

Sega fangirl til the end(with there classic consoles), but still love SNES.

I still have both systems and there are games that are better on the Genesis (Strider, Earth Worm Jim, any NBA Jam etc) the library is still superior on the SNES.

This is a good topic, I just had a discussion about this with one of my buddies, its difficult because Genesis had classics like X-Men, General Chaos, the Streets of Rage series and the better (IMHO) version of Earthworm Jim, but SNES had Mario Kart, F-Zero, Super Ghouls and Ghosts, and superior versions of all the MKs I'd say the SNES by a Hair.
