I thought a lot about this, considering how people tend to flame each other from time to time, but here it goes:
Please don't flame.

The purpose of this poll is targeted to the more serious MK Tourney players out there. (I'm not one of them, but I'd like to know).

Do you feel that MK10 could benefit from the use of the run button, or do you think the next MK should keep the dash system that's in place now? YES or NO

Explain how the "RUN" button could affect defense, offense, rush-down characters, zoner characters and grapple characters if implemented, for better or worse?

Fire away. ;-)

I'm not gonna vote yes or no. I think they should put both in.

I would say yes so it MK10 can feel more like the old school games.

Yet, no for gameplay reasons.

No, absolutely not it would create stiff gameplay and seriously hurt some fighters because they have to sit there and wait for the run meter to build up again.

Initially I was one of the ones who were pissed at the lack of a run button.
But now I realize this game would suffer if it had one.

I can't imagine having to be responsible for another button while playing this game.

No, Run button is bad.

Not to mention what mike mentioned.

But to add to the cake, offense is already Ridiculously powerful in MK9. This game deals some of the highest chip I've ever seen. Plus it rewards your pressure with more meter. It's always a huge win on the offensive players, and makes you want to pre-emptive poke out early to avoid long term pressure.

With the RUN button. That would make offense EVEN MORE powerful than it already is. To make a good game you need a balance of offense and defense. Give too much power to the offense, defense will crumble and the game will look retarded.

Why are you people talking about MK9? Question is for MK10. Yes, the run button would bring back the whole dynamic of how UMK3 is played, which would be amazing. And then the game would feel more like MK than SF4. Dashing isnt good for MK.

Also, i'd bet my house Mike Riazy isnt very good at any fighting games.

I say have both. If you can't escape pressure, it's your own damn fault for not practicing and applying the sacred rule of E.A.T.

Either you learn from your mistakes or you get bent. Don't want anybody pussyfooting around with bullsh*t.

Yes they should return with the RUN button for MK10 if desired by player like a setting and the reason why i say that is because UMK3 would lack on Combo persistance without the Run button due to the combo structure similar to MK9. MK9 on the other hand works similar to UMK3 due to Combo Persistance timing. There are times where you could try to perform a combo on MK9 and the combo cuts out because your hits are far distance to your opponet :(

Its like you have to hurry fast somehow and move forward fast somehow to complete the combo otherwise it cuts off because your too far away from your opponet

I don't think the run button should return. Dashing is the way to go about it and I feel NRS should stick to the game mechanics established in MK9 and just improvise on it in MK10.

Mike is pretty good at fighting games, especially MK9.

um... what?

I assumed the OP was talking about MK9 mechanics(For MK10) but with the run button instead.

IF he's not talking about that. and talking about a whole new gameplan/engine.

Then I don't see why not as ANYTHING is open for balance/change.

Thus making this thread pointless.

If it's a new engine and it's well done to be incorporated with running I don't see why not.

But if it's MK9 engine transferring over. and we're adding the run button. I don't want it to happen.

do you not understand the nature that is MK9? Offense heavily outweighs the benefits of good defense by a HUGE margin.

You need a center balance. I hate to use Smash bros as an example but in SSB64, the lag-cancelling was 100%. The shield was so horrible that you should never use it. As anyone could pressure your shield to the point of breaking and you won't even be able to let go of shield because of shield stun.

So you got this game that has no blocking(well it does but it's pointless because it's so bad.)

And it HEAVILY benefits offense. Meaning if you're not attacking or COMPLETELY perfectly outspacing someone, you're gonna get combo'd zero to death.

In melee, You have ALOT of out of shield options to counter attack making defense strong. No Chip, Just straight pressure where the offensive player dictates when he wants to be open/try to trick you into letting go early.

IN MK9

You get SOOO much advantage from attacking block than you do blocking.

No one here is complaining about not being able to handle offense or defense. I'm just explaining that there is little incentive to be defensive outside of spacing.

I was speaking about using the RUN button in general whether using the MK9 engine or a new engine altogether.
I'm NO Tourney level player, but I was just curious.

This might sound kinda weird but I think the run button should stay with the 3D MK games. I think the dash is better with the newer generation of MK games. I just don't think it would fit with the way the gameplay is right now.

I do love the run button. though <3

This is exactly what I was typing, word for word.

Wait *Edit* There was a run button in the 3D games? You mean first 3?
