Hmm, happy to see my blog got posted here. Unhappy to see the conversation hit a bump at one point and yet again devolved into a senseless back-and-forth between the divided fan-bases. Thankfully, that seems to have ceased but just thought I'd pop in and say my two cents....
Just for clarity, this blog was never about complaining for the sake of complaining although I did write it as a means to enact a therapeutic way of channeling my disappointment. It's purely a means of drawing attention to one of the games major flaws, imo. Like how the netcode is a major flaw, or some see the variation system as unfulfilled and incomplete due to a certain handful of characters not feeling as inspired as others, my major problem is their run of DLC.
For the record, this blog was not one of those "Wah, I'm mad because I didn't get what I want" responses. I've campaigned for Bo' Rai Cho vocally since MKX's announcement and now I got him; however, that doesn't change the fact I still think this DLC pack is a sack of crap. Generally speaking, I have no problem with guests... with that being said however, I do think there should be a clear limit as to how many get into a certain game which brings me to my original argument in the blog that the main focus of their post-launch content should be in the form of Mortal Kombat characters, not split down the middle with guests. When half of your DLC is from other franchises, no longer do I see it as fan service. Now it just reeks of blatant cash grabbing / product advertising and it's disgusting, especially in light of what other rival franchises are doing at this current time by bringing in those long demanded characters.
If you like the guests then I'm happy you got what you wanted out of the DLC, however I for one will be cherry-picking what I purchase and as an MK fan, I'm slightly disheartened that I have to do so. The weird thing is that NRS already had the perfect KP formula before and refuse to revisit it. MK9 was hands down the best way to go about it as you satisfy every angle of the fanbase as a whole; you satisfy those who want new characters, you satisfy those who want a returning Trilogy figure, you satisfy those who want a returning 3D era figure and you satisfy those who want a guest for shits and giggles.
The biggest offender though by far is the simple fact NRS ignored perhaps the two most vocal request camps since MKX's announcement. That in and of itself is mind-boggling and that is perhaps the catalyst for this reaction. The fact that little joke about unlocking Fujin made it into the game proves they know that demand is there, yet still refuse to act on it. That, along with the netcode still being crap, proves beyond a shadow of a doubt in my mind that NRS simply does not listen.
