Do you like motion controls?

I saw this debate getting started in the Xbox/Wii U thread so I thought maybe it should get its own topic instead of taking place off-topic in another thread.

Basically, what's your take on motion controls? Do you think they're good for gaming? Do you think they're bad for gaming? Does it depend on how they're used? What?

My personal view is it depends on the execution. As examples, I will talk about the two Wii games I got for Christmas: The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword, and Donkey Kong Country Returns. I love the controls in Zelda. The realistic sword angles help create an immersive gaming experience in my opinion, and aiming the slingshot and stuff using the Wii remote just feels more natural and easy than the equivalent in Ocarina of Time. DKCR is an entirely different story. That game is purely a standard side-scrolling platformer just like the original DKC. Hence, I find that the need to shake the Wii remote to roll is an absolute abomination. There is no need for any such controls in that game. I hate it when Nintendo feels the need to utilize their gimmick controls somehow in every game regardless of what it has to do with said game.

So what's your opinion?

First time I ever got a Wii, I was excited as hell.

Now, I still love my Wii. Its a different taste from just sitting down and pushing buttons. They tried their hardest to get people into something active and fun. Yet they got shitted on anyway

As long as they don't take over the industry, I think they're fine. They're geared more for casual gamers and such games are generally cheap to develop and have a high return because of their broad audience, which gives developers the revenue to create better non-casual games.

I have the PS MOVE and i like it but I wish there were more games that used it but only if they use it in a way that adds to the experience. Like inFAMOUS 2 uses it but i dont feel compelled to hook up my PS EYE cuz it doesnt feel right to me on the other hand KILLZONE 3 was awesome with it i even bought a gun attachment for it.

It depends on what you use it for.
A game like MK would be a pain in the ass if it was ever ported to that technology.

Now, 1st person POV MK would be bad ass. 8)

For example:

Actually MKA was ported to the Wii

I'm pretty sure it isn't ONLY motion controlled, though.
I think you can also use the controller normally to play the game.
I'm not 100% sure though, as I don't have a Wii and can't verify that.

No your right, it gave you that option you could play with a controller I believe

As for the only motion controlled system, I'm not all to sure. I just knew it was on the Wii for a fact

I'd rather see an MK done in First Person POV, before I see a motion controlled MK.
I've always thought that this would be kind of nifty.
Don't know if it would ever work, but it would be cool.

EDIT:
Talk about taking it to the next level.

as long as it make sense and is accurate its all good e.g if your trying to play little big planet with the move or a game like that i dont see the need for it it feels like it complicates things but if you're using it for a sword game its perfect. i was playing a tyger woods game with the move and it was preety fun, i rather play it that way and i also seen the new road to the show mlb 2012 game using the move and it seemed to work very well, pinpoint accuracy, you can basiclly make your own ritual before batting any movement will translate to the game.

on the topic of Wii,

I hated the idea ever since they first announced the Controller and changed the name from Revolution to Wii in 05. I eventually just had to suck it up and deal with it if I ever wanted to play great games like Mario Galaxy. But still, I dont like it at all. In my opinion, every game on Wii needs to be gambecube controller compatible for people who just want to play the games without the motion controlls. Then everyone could be happy. But Nintendo hasnt realized this yet.

I gonna seal my Xbox, so in the future when you guys are playing your motion control holographic games, I'll be kicking it on Skyrim or Sonic Generations

To me motion control is just dumb. You get to flap your arms around like a turkey trying to fly. I hope the companies realize soon that motion control is just a gimmick and go back to traditional controllers.

What are the sales saying? They're not going to do that unless it's going to make them more money. Somehow I feel the opposite is the case.

I love it. It helps me keep active while using gaming, and find innovative ways to play games. I can only hope in the future they will only make it better. I enjoy playing my kinect especially, and the wii for other reasons/games. Also enjoy wii fit and dance central. Although I'm not interested in PSmove(as I doubt anyone is) considering it's just a lame version of the wii.

The original Playstation has a fighting game called Bushido Blade that has a first-person option, but they still show your character in the upper corner. I don't think this sort of thing will ever work simply because you need to see what your character is doing since you can sense it like you can in real life.
