In my opinion I Think this will replace the originals for me so as to scarcly go back to them....

Will Mortal Kombat 9 (2011) replace the original Trilogy for you?

Yeah nothing will ever replace the classics. I may be engulfed with this game for like a year, but I still will be playing the classics here and there.

I nostalgasm too much for this to be possible. Hopefully MK9 will be a classic for me in the years to come as well. =D

No, it won't!

Classic games will have a special place in my heart. I played MK since I was a kid!
MK9 is a great new MK with the storyline from the first games. I love this fact because I hate the Mortal Kombat storyline beginning with MKDA.
MK9 will feature only classic fighters and Quan Chi, the only cool post mk4 character. That's also a main point.
The new game will be THE Mortal Kombat for me because I don't like new MKs but the first three games will forever be classic and badass!

yeah I can't see this replacing the years of memories from the originals. Will this scratch my inch more then the originals yes. With the updated graphics and gameplay I would play this more then the others. BUt i can see myself form time to time playing mk2 or UMK3.

Not at all! The classics are just that, CLASSICS. You can never replace them. I'm sure I speak for many when I say the memories of playing against friends in the arcades or at home are just too awesome to not look back in on them from time to time if even only in a nostalgic sense. Even if this new MK delivers all that it promises and more, I'll never completely be over the classic gameplay of it's predecessors.

I will say though, that this will be the first MK I play with competitive intentions. It's pretty much the first MK out that I'm old enough to understand the more complex layers and aspects of the game. Even MK vs. DC frustrated me. When UMK3 came out I loved it and I was OK at best (I was little and easily frustrated as most of us were at a young age). I can say I'm busting my butt in this one to get much better than the average player. And much better than I was at the original 3.

yes I agree that you can't destroy the memories, but this reboot looks very good albeit "you can't judge a book by it's cover" but....

I seriously doubt it. MK9 is promising, but MKII and UMK3 are in a league of their own and MK9 plays too differently to replace them. I think MK9 will get a lot of play time first year or 2 after it's released, but I just don't see it having the longevity that the old games do.

I am sorry but what is so special about MK2? It is just like MK1 with more kharacters and finishers with better grapics. UMK3 was the best one.

MKII is alot faster than MK1 it also had alot more depth in the gameplay. But the balancing and inclusion of the run bar in UMK3 makes it such an amazing tournament viable game.

Maybe it's just me having high hopes, but I really think if executed correctly that this MK will be a tourny viable game for years to come (or until a sequel). MK9 is the first time that EVO has considered a Mortal Kombat game for high level competitive play in its upcoming tournament this year. I'd say it has a pretty good shot of being some amazing longevity. Or at least the same longevity as SSF4.

The gameplay, the characters, the music, the sound effects, the fatalities, etc.

And my comment is me being skeptical of MK9's final result. I haven't played it, but there's a lot of stuff in it that doesn't jive with me (Liu Kang can teleport? ), so until it's in my hand, I can only go on what I've seen.

I loved the old games. I was 10 when the first one came out but there is something about this game that makes me think that I'll be playing it for a while longer than some others.
