Injustice Discussion Thread

Ah I see, but it's not so different, a lot of us have the same level of DC knowledge as you had MK; we are just waiting on the character we want to main to confirm the purchase and sweeten the deal. I have a lot of hope for lesser know characters as well but I know a lot of these slots will probably be limited - I'm thinking 5 at the most.

My main has already been confirmed. Now I'm wanting NRS to bring in more Characters one of which is Black Adam who is by far my favorite villain(Ewww.. Anti-Hero). lol... But I'm not wanting his entire family to follow him even-though his wife Isis completely different from her husband in-terms of powers. I just want Adam or Captain Marvel as an alt.

Just because they shoot guns doesn't mean they have to.

Harley Quinn, for example, can use a hammer.

Also, just because the characters have certain characteristics about them (like certain weapons they normally use) doesn't mean NRS can't get a little creative and make up some new moves/weapons that are a good reflection of the character.

In other words, NRS, add the Riddler, plz =)

Also, it is easier to sell a game when it has faces a lot of people know. If it is a game where most of the characters are only known to people who are bigger fans and read the comics, it wont grab the attention of anyone else. I think at least some unknowns should be left for DLC.

I'm saying they need to find a good balance between Characters and not go one way or the other. 5 batman characters is one-thing but half the roster is to much (imo). If they left Joker and Catwoman for DlC I wouldn't complain.

and that's what I have a problem with. they seem to be catering to people that know Nothing about the characters outside of batman.
And what exactly do you find wrong with this? Like I said, they're trying to actually make people care about Injustice and not immediately dismiss it as just another shitty licensed game. NRS wants, no has to make money as well as wanting to make a good DC fighting game, and casuals are where the money is at. If that means including a bunch of recognizable faces from the DC Universe to help people get interested in it, then so be it. If you have a problem with them trying to do that, then uh, sorry Jack, I dunno what to tell you, you're on your own on that front.

It's not like Injustice is gonna be a straight up circlejerk for all the cool kids, so to speak, in DC, anyway. I'm sure that there'll be at least a few obscure choices in the game, whether it be through DLC or on the initial roster

The problem with DC is that Batman is the only comic series that has the most well known characters in general, who are all fairly popular as well. Every other DC comic has only one or two well known characters (again, talking in general, obviously fans of the individual comics will know more characters), so it is easy to get a bunch of Batman characters in a DC game.

At this point, though, not much of the roster has been confirmed, so they might not even add as many Batman characters as people think.

If they completely go with casuals they'll alienate the fans that will stick around long after the excitement of fighting as your favorite character wears off. Like with what happened with Kratos and MK9 he brought in a lot of fans till the excitement wore off then the online matches were few and far between.

Whichever way they do it, people are going to be upset about it.

If they add too many lesser known characters, people will whine THEY SHOULD HAVE HAD *insert character*, and if they put the same old characters in it due to their popularity, OMG AGAIN? so, yeah, whatever happens, expect butthurt people, anyway, lol.

Im hoping about 5/7 of the roster is the kind of main characters e.g Green Lantern, Batman, Aquaman, Catwoman, Superman, Joker, Deathstroke etc and the 2/7 is lesser known characters but a lot of people know who they are e.g Zatanna, Black Canary, Swamp Thing, Green Arrow, Lobo and so on.

I'm actually looking forward to the alternates rather the rest of the character roster (whatever happenes, happens)! I hope we get alternate outfis that aren't too similar to the charaters' primary outfit.

Alts were already confirmed. Hopefully that means an actually variety and not just an added/subtracted layer of clothing like most MK9 costumes.

You say that going for more known characters is going to mean the game will fail in long term? Sure if NRS rushed Injustice by giving none of the characters depth or anything, but that can happen whether they pick all top 30 characters or not. Longevitywise Scarecrow doesn't have to be any worse than Black Adam.

Kratos isn't the (only) issue in MK9. If the game is good most people will keep playing. Sure there are the ones who try everything new and then quit, but they are potential revenue and playerbase atleast for a while too. However if the game sucks (just connectivity or 1 cheap character or something) most everyone will stop playing. If anything I'd say that a popular roster keeps players playing for a bit longer. It's always fun to return to MVC2 and play a bit as Cyclops, but I couldn't care less about Spiral.

@Jade: I would agree about the butthurt people but this kind of games are quite rare so atleast I'm quite glad whoever NRS chooses. But I feel a bit conflicted about everyone from MK VS DC getting in. On one hand there was nothing wrong with Deathstroke, Catwoman or Lex but still bringing them all over would feel a bit weird seeing how Injustice probably only has 24 characters.

I really hope Wonder Woman gets an alternate like this:

No I'm saying they shouldn't only cater to the casual crowd.. Because in the long run it's the real fans that will be playing this game 2 years down the line. The casuals will be there until something else grabs their attention. Which means 1 of 2 things could happen.

1. It will go on a shelf and only be played once or twice every few months.
-or-
2. It will be traded in.. Which companies are trying to stop from happening.

Look at Mk vs Dc Batman had 4 of Dc's 12 it didn't really help the game all that much. And they where the more popular characters to with Joker and Catwoman with the only obscure character being deathstroke and it still got traded in..

There are only 2 types of people a fighting game developer needs to cater to, casuals & the competitive crowd. Casuals to bring in the day 1 cash and hardcore players to increase the longevity, build hype/interest and to give the developer a good name. There is no need to cater to hardcore fans because they have no use to the developer. They are just rabid versions of casual fans and developers know this. Now they can cater to them if they wish, but they do not need to.

and that's what I have a problem with. they seem to be catering to people that know Nothing about the characters outside of batman. The casual Dc fans who see characters like Black Adam and see a guy in an all black leotard and say he's not really as cool as Ral's. But have no Idea he was once a proud hero who lost his family and after thousands of years went mad and turned into what he hated most. Then During WW3 he killed two titans and took on the entire country of China, took out their top 10 heroes and still took on the entire JLA by himself or see Captain Marvel and say he's corny, but haven't the slightest clue as to how he got his powers or that he's an orphan who still had the willpower to be a hero or how Brainiac destroyed krypton and helped make Kell-El into superman.

I love batman and would like to see Jason Todd, Damien and Azreal but I think others are just as deserving for a spot as they are.

So what if they might be targeting casual gamers who don't know much about the DC Universe, are you saying you need to know the details of every storyline and character to have the right to enjoy this game? By targeting casuals they might be trying to introduce new people into DC comics, which won't happen by throwing characters who they've never known anything about at them (I'm just speculating all this). Personally I got into DC Comics after first watching Batman Begins and Batman: The animated series when I was a kid, it was only a few years until I ventured out of the Batman branch of things and discovered more awesome characters I liked...Some of my friends got into DC after Arkham Asylum and so on. You shouldn't judge people for not knowing everything about a lore straight away an interest must be sparked first and right now Batman seems to be a fad which grabs people's attention, it would be silly in the business sense of things not to capitalize on this. Like I said as long as the fighting engine is good I'll be satisfied.

Omg... When did I judge anyone? I said this already. They need to find a balance between the two and Not go completely one way or the other. And no I'm not saying that Because then no one would be able to play the game. If they wanted a Batman centered game they should have made it a batman game.

And how is this game going to introduce them to the Dc universe if it's Characters they already know? They need a few well known characters to entice casuals to pick it up that's why 5 slots is fine (IMO). Then they see characters they didn't know and then they go research and find out who these new unknown characters are. That's how you introduce New people to the Dc universe. Not by throwing the same characters they've seen a million times before at them. Because then if you do that all you're going to do is reintroduce them to Batman.

But whether the game has 100% or 0% Batman characters has little to do with the longevity, if the game is good. Like said I also doubt the game will have 50% Batman characters, but thematically it could happen. Really a matter what NRS is going for. What is the story about? What kind of gameplay variety are they going for?

But part of the issue lies in with the popular names IMO. So far we have Superman, Flash, Wonder Woman and Batman. If they add Green Lantern, Joker, Catwoman, Captain Marvel and Lex Luthor doesn't it start to look like the game doesn't differ from MK vs DC that much. Its hard to sell a game by using the same big characters they just used in the last game. Sure now they probably add Aquaman, Green Arrow, Martian Manhunter and Hawkman into the mix but how many casuals really care about them? "Aquaman is so gay"

Again comes down to the fact of gaming having only 24 characters. Very little room to move in. If there were 20 other DC characters and 10 Batman characters things would be much simpler.

You're taking things too literally. It's pretty safe to assume that the roster won't actually be "50% Batman", people are just overexaggerating since there's a good chance that there will be a quite a few Batman characters compared to others

... It's called introducing new people to the DC Universe as a whole, not just introducing them to a few characters

TBH I don't think their should be anymore batman characters.

But it's not introducing them to The DC universe as a whole It's just showing off Batman. You guys are talking like the Game should be nothing but Batmans characters. seems as how I mention Black Adam and automatically get countered by well why not Two face or Scarecrow.

Sure now they probably add Aquaman, Green Arrow, Martian Manhunter and Hawkman into the mix but how many casuals really care about them?

This furthers the point I'm trying to make Possibly not including fan favorites to cater to casuals.

Really interested to see the footsie game in this. I wonder what pace it will be played at mostly at high level. This could mk players equivalent to MvC in the capcom community, but I kinda hope it isn't. I want it to be different.

Positioning seems to be really important due to the environmental aspects of the game. Decisions would have to made quickly. Do you sacrifice damage for positioning? This seems to be even more important in this game. Also the environmental stuff could force characters to play out of their comfort zone. So you might have to play a solid mid-range game with a zoning character to keep a character from escaping your stuff for free.

So far i'm quite impressed. It seems that the game will be deeper than it seems. Also, you'd have to learn the stage as well as the character, thats pretty awesome. Stage tiers, anyone?

Well there is room to add those big ones I mentioned obviously. Issue comes when we start to talk about characters like Black Adam or Professor Zoom.

From where I stand making us able to play as the most popular ones while filling the story with supporting cast and locations is the best way to introduce people to DC universe. The player gets to play as Scarecrow, but he is in Atlantis seeing Black Manta and Aquaman fighting or something. Sort of like casuals got Marvel Ultimate Alliance for Spiderman, Wolverine and Iron Man but also saw Atlantis, Murderworld etc.

Like Metal Overlord said I'd say everyone is exaggerating. You say 4 Batman characters would be enough (Even with Solomon being no fan favorite nor true Batman villain) while I'd say they could go for 8. Add Joker and Catwoman obviously (though I wouldn't really mind if they werent in if it meant we got Riddler and Ra's) and then add 2 or 3 true newcomers like Two-Face, Bane and Poison Ivy. That way there is something new and popular even for the mainstreamest of mainstream, but Batman roster still isn't THAT HUGE.
