This is an alternate timeline. Smoke never became cybernetic, SZ did... That's the only reason why I don't expect the ??? character to be him.

Cyborg smoke wont be his "own" character. All he will be, is an alternate costume for the already available Human Smoke! He will have ALL the same moves, just a different look to him. The reason being is because Human Smoke and Cyborg Smoke are BOTH the same person. As the story line goes, Human smoke is turned into cyborg smoke! So they wouldn't make two of the same character. Look at the example that they already show in the game (Sub-Zero and Cyber Sub-Zero), they are BOTH DIFFERENT people (The original Sub-Zero and his younger brother).
I hope that clears things up for you and anyone else thinking that Cyborg Smoke will be a DLC character in the future.... Its just NOT gonna happen! If anything, they will just make Cyborg Smoke an alternate costume for Human smoke (Same concept as human Sektor and human cyrax)!
I agree about the "characters silhouette". Its not even what the character will look like. ALSO, That mystery character will be Fujin. There is already an audio file on the disc itself (DISC LOCKED) of the announcer saying "FUJIN", as you would hear it on the character select screen!
I also agree with you on the fact that Shinnok will be kept out of this game as to make him the boss in MK10 (MKX). It would just make perfect sense to save him for the next installment, especially after that spectacular ending in MK9!
Sorry to correct you, but Smoke was NEVER in mk1. He started in MK2. But I do understand where your coming from on this seeing as how the "secret fight with classic MK2 smoke" shows Smoke in a modified "RETRO MK1" version of his original costume (exactly the same as the classic Scorpion, Ermac, Reptile and Sub-Zero costumes with a Grey color). Either way I doubt that we will see this as a DLC costume. If anything, we will be getting the MK3 Cyborg Smoke costume as an alternate for Human Smoke in MK9 (Same concept as human Sektor and human Cyrax costumes).
I do agree with you that the Inferno Scorpion AND the classic MK2 Noob Saibot costume will be available for DLC (probably the 2 that will be released with the next DLC character!)
I hope they dont stop with just 4 characters... I would love to see Chameleon (male version), Reiko and Frost make it into this game as well.... Hhahaha that would be awesome. Frost would mark the THIRD character to shoot ice out of his/her body in some way shape or form.

At this point, can be anyone. Only after Rain's DLC release, we will be able to know, since, they (NRS) will start to promote this mysterious character and we gonna discover "who is" ......
Doesn't bother me if could be Tanya, since she appears as cameo in Kahn's Koliseum, but, I'm sure if she is being developed for this game, she will have an updated appearance ......
