What Made U Join TRMK?/Get into MK

I got into MK with the release of the first game on SNES. Even though it was gimped in terms of blood and fatalities, I was still obsessed with it. The characters, the atmosphere and the lore all appealed to me.

I feel like I'm one of the few who's stuck by MK through the good and the bad. While it's great to see the new game attracting new players (and people who had given up on the franchise), it's especially grand to see it come back into stride after having played every game that's evolved them to this point.

As far as TRMK goes, this was one of the first fan sites I discovered back when the internet was still new and unfamiliar territory in the mid-to-late 90s. Since my obsession with Mortal Kombat knew no bounds, MK was the first thing I plugged into a search engine as soon as I had regular access to the net. From here, I remember downloading text FAQs for UMK3, printing them out and highlighting fatalities for all the characters I was planning on using. I even went as far as laminating a copy and creating like a mini-collage from concept art and random things that I had collected. I only signed up for the forums recently (even though I'm not really a forum kinda guy) after lurking for so long in anticipation of the new game.

I'll never forget the first time I played Mortal Kombat 1 on sega when I was about 6. The first fatality I saw was Kanos heart rip. Then we figured out the blood code. I was hooked ever since.

Yeah, this one time I morphed into a dragon and went out into the street terrorizing my 'hood.

Before the cops could pin me down I had already dropped like six MK arcade cabinets on various objects of value, including a Porsche owned by Bob Saget (and Al Roker on the weekends).

Alisa wins. Flawless Victory. ROWR!!! Animality! Fatalities! LMFAO :-P

SO what got me into MK. Well I don't remember how old I was at the time, but it was around when the first Addams Family movie came out. Afterwards, my family and I went to the arcade right outside of the theater. And there it was, Mortal Kombat in all its glory. With a big crowd huddled around it doing ome 1vs1 matches. Of course, my mind was completely blown away by everything I saw, and I actually did get to try and play someone. I remember I was Raiden, and the kid I played was Sub-zero. And EVERY time I tried get up from the ground, he froze me. Bastard. :-) Ever since then, I've been hooked, with some also fond memories of each arcade release thereafter. MK2 was probably the most intimidating to me, mostly due to the audio being full blast, and yet again being surrounded by high-level players. It was all about the arcades, never will I ever forget those epic moments in my lifespan. I've also had very fond memories of the console ports and the movies. What can I say MK = my life.

And why I joined TRMK... well that's easy... Jade... ;-) Haha jk Nah actually when MK9 surfaced, and being an avid MK fan, I've always had these insanely huge ideas in my head about how I'd want to do this or that in the new MK. And how else to voice my opinion then join a very awesome site/ forum? I've become addicted since then and met some very cool individuals to boot. That and I always look here first for MK news (also via Twitter and Facebook).

What made me join TRMK was Tim Static (he said a lot of good things about Patrick and TRMK on some other forums I went on so I joined to see what the hubbub was about, and I thought it was cool but I wasn't active). What made me active in TRMK was the death of the Midway Boards. In the Midway Boards, everyone there was so comfortable with each other, it was like a family of MK fans. It was a really sad day when we all had to part our different ways, so I basically drifted from forum to forum trying to find my home of talking MK like just a fanboy. I do frequent TYM and MKU, but they are a different kind of MK forum, a competitive, fun and cool MK board, not what I found in Midway Boards. Don't get me wrong though, I always have TRMK and TYM open at the same time when surfing the net. I decided to become active in here after having joined other MK fansites (Arsenal, Kamidogu, TMK) but not finding what I thought was my "home". While it's not the same here as I felt at the Midway Boards, I like it here and i'm not gonna leave.

As for MK, I had kinda an idea about since the 90's but since I was only a kid in the 90's my memory was fuzzy. In 2005 though, my older brother brought MKSM (as his friend recommended/let him borrow it) in middle school. I was kinda an off and on with MKSM because since it was ko-op, my older brother was Liu Kang (because he wanted to be the main character) and my twin brother was Kung Lao (who I really didn't like since he just wasn't "cool" to me then). I was spectating but the game was so awesome! The story, the combat, and just the overall funness really got me into it. We played the game until my older brother got into high school but we never picked it up again because Kintaro and Shao Kahn were so tough (seriously, my older brother and my twin only beat the final boss once together).

My twin brother, being the completionist that he is wanted us to find all the secrets. But the only good Liu Kang player (and our family's honest to goodness irreplaceable Liu Kang fan), was our older brother but being in high school he couldn't play games as much since he was in wrestling. I had to pick up the mantel of the Liu Kang player and fell in love with the character (no homo). At some points (being random in middle school) I would make the gobble noises at my twin brother at unexpected times because Liu Kang was so freaking awesome to me. Needless to say, my twin brother and I did a new game of MKSM, he as Kung Lao, and I as Liu Kang and demolished that game, finding every single secret and unlockable and beating every single hidden boss, and became able to beat consistently beat the final bosses. Liu Kang still remains one of my closet favorites, even if my username is Subzerosmokerain, Liu Kang holds a special place for me as the first MK character I mastered.

What really solidified my MK fanness was meeting Linden Ashby in real life in 2009. He was so cool and chill and basically the opposite of Johnny Cage, and what he told me about Devastation was pretty interesting. Looking back, I should've asked him to email me like the scripts he got of Devastation and why he wasn't in Annihilation but I was so star struck that I only talked to him about Devastation, why he was in Georgia, and other stuff too. His wife and daughters were there, but I didn't know his wife was famous and I was really only interested in MK. Anyways, in giving me his autograph he wrote "Kombat never ends!" And to me that was so cool but interesting and in him saying that kinda made me think, "You know what, Kombat will never end, i'm gonna support this fanbase as long as I can." And now, i'm a huge MK fan. Obsessed to the point some people think is weird but I don't care. Kombat will never end for me. Damn, this is a really long post.

I stumbled upon this website about 5 yrs ago, about month ago I made the decision to join. Its just too much fun here, I enjoy reading all the discussions fans have here. Of course my love for MK started way back in '92 at the age of 6, there was no going back after that. MK II came out it was no difference, being introduced to MK III Arcade at a bowling alley in Florida did it for me back in Summer of '95. I've been hooked ever since.

When i was much younger my older brother and cousin used to play Mortal Kombat. And they told me i had to be Scorpion if i wanted to play too. They told me that he had a spear and said "Get Over Here" but i had no real idea what they were talking about. I'm not really sure if it was my first one (I think Trilogy was, but i didnt know how to do many moves), but a very hype game for me was Mortal Kombat Deception. My uncle got the guide for me before i got the book, and i fell in love with the characters BEFORE i got the game. Ever since that i've been a complete fan for the games.

I joined because ive been looking at the forums for FOREVER. And it would be dumb for me not to join:)

I played MK since MK1 made his debut on PC's and i loved that game, in those years my English was very poor and as a child i thought that scorpion and sub-zero are brothers thats pathetic i know lol. And I really love this forum and ppl in here thats why i joined.

Hell yea little brother. I remeber playing MK2 with you from our childhood..for me it was all about sub-zero :P

Ironically, I joined TRMK just before MKX was announced for the sole purpose of speculating about the next games roster.

I got in to Mortal Kombat when I first played the original game on Super Nintendo. At that time I never got a chance to play MKII or MK3 but ended getting MKT for N64 and completely amplified my interest as a kid. For me, it was interesting to go from MK1 to MKT and seeing all these strange new/updated characters.

A couple years later I got MK4 and became a fanatic. I was like 8 years old and pretended to be Sub-Zero outside and fought invisible bad guys (I hope the neighbors weren't watching). Then finally got to experience MKII and MK3 with the arcade treasures.

As I got older, I got a PS2 with MKDA and MKD which renwed my interest in the series. MKSM came after which was an interesting twist.

At the peak of fandom, I annoyed the hell out of my local game store about my MKA pre-order. When I finally got ithe steal book edition of MKA, my friend's out of town brother stole it from me. It wasn't that much of a loss since the game felt like an expansion for MKDA/MKD.

Then I reached a period where I lost interest in video games and didn't care to get MK vs DC. I ended up playing through it casually at a friends. Randomly one day, I searched to see if there was a new game in development and MK9 was being teased only. MK9 got me back in to it all again. It really was the perfect way seeing as how MKT was a crucial point that my childhood. Now I'm ready for MKX.

Anyways, that's my history with MK.

I'm proud to say I got into my when only the first one was out, I was 6 at the time and my folks were totally okay with it. I got my ass handed to me at the arcade. I never had move lists lol. Things just happened randomly for me.

When 2 came out I remember Nintendo power with scorpion on the cover. It had all the mk 2 moves. It was a total game changer for me.

I started coming to trmk for the mk4 fatalities.

I can't believe I still log in to the hell hole.

I first played MK when I was 3. It was MK TRILOGY on the N64. I always chose SZ and didn't give a damn about anyone else except for the "Chinese Man"
. I had no idea how to do a finisher so I purposely lost over and over to see them.

I joined TRMK to advertise my game (Mortal Kombat Journey, link to thread in my sig) and got into MK thanks to my dad. He would take me and my little brother to arcades and we would go straight to MK2. Eventually we got a SEGA genesis and MK3. We played MK4 later on and rediscovered MK somewhere around 2003 I believe. We wanted to re buy MK4 for the PS2 at the swap meet but saw MKDA which we had not even heard about. We bought MKDA and since that day we have followed the great series closely!

good old nostalgia story. I went to this local comic book store called Red Planet in Morgan Hill, CA. Everyone was crowded around this new game (Mortal Kombat) with loud music and loud sound effects. Only a few of us that were left (myself included) were playing Street Fighter II Champion Edition. Eventually I took a look and started playing MK while SFIICE and SFIIHF received less attention from almost everyone that went to the arcades...

More to follow...

When I was a kid, my cousin had an SNES and got the first Mortal Kombat. So that's how I was introduced to the franchise.

I joined TRMK because I wanted to find a good MK forum. I've been on MKO since the MKDA days, but it's just gone down the shitter the past year. In the end I just stopped caring, so I knew it would be best to find a better place to go for MK info and discussions without all the bullshit. And I hope this place can be it. ^^

That and your account got banned there... although I'm not surprised when you really didn't do anything at all except asking the moderators to do what they're supposed to do.

But to the actual question, my reason for joining here is the same as his, wanted a place to actually discuss about this game in a decent manner and not having to deal with people getting away breaking all the rules. I'm not asking for the moderators to be on 24/7, but when you're in charge of a site, I'd like to see people actually getting in trouble when they break the rules. Discussions are repeating themselves there and I'm finding myself more and more less to actually participate on that site. I've joined various other sites in the meantime, and talked to a bunch of other users that are doing the same thing. At least there are a lot of very nice users here that doesn't get all pissy for no reason at all.

Plus I'm getting tired of putting an annoying little mentally challenged wannabe in their place. Kinda gets annoying after a while.

Yes, I got banned from there yesterday.
But I joined this forum a few weeks ago, so the two of them are not related.
