The return of the dead hero characters

I was really hoping for a complete start-over with a game FULL of new characters.

Capcom got torn a new asshole for exactly that in Street Fighter 3...in fact, the mere threat of a sales bust prompted them to put Ryu and Ken on the final roster...and eventually Akuma and Chun Li on future updates. I doubt any fighting game dev wants to repeat THAT mistake ever again.

Of course I knew it wouldn't happen, was just a dead personal wish.
As said, it was something I wanted to happen, but clearly I know it wouldn't happen.
Especially since Ed Boon never would keep people like Scorpion and Sub Zero off of a roster now that Scorpion is basically the model for the series since the studio change from Midway to NetherRealm.
If Ed released an MK game with not 1 previous character (as stated), It'd be like a blind man walking down the city street without a support dog to help him. The general public wouldn't know how to get used to it.
I'm not disappointed though. I'm happy that we're getting new characters regardless.

Armageddon was made in hope to save the franchise which is why that game had gimmicks like create a fighter, all of the characters since MK1 and that Mario Kart knock off game. I think NRS will likely not go that route again unless NRS starts going down the drain.

Armageddon was inevitable because Midway had been bleeding cash annually since the turn of the millennium, and not even MK alone could keep the company sustainable long-term (a pretty steep fall, since they entered the New Millennium as the 4th largest developer).

I don't mind it at all. I've stated numerous times that I'm not a fan of Kung Lao but I get it. He's a staple in the series and very popular, especially with expert and casual players alike. As this game is geared towards tournaments, it makes sense from a money standpoint. People saying "NRS is bowing to fanboy pressure" aren't taking into account how a business works. They have to put things in that have been shown to make money or there will be no future Mortal Kombat games. If there's no revenue being generated, the series becomes a liability. We don't want that, do we?

Kitana, on the other hand, is THEE female MK character. The few chicks I know that play the game stick to her. That sort of thing doesn't happen by accident. She's a woman, she looks sexy, and most importantly, can kick a lot of ass. Let's not forget the fact that she's also part of many different storylines, ranging from the love angle with Liu Kang (who is the hero of the whole damn series) to her feud with Mileena, another hugely popular female character. Killing her off for the rest of the franchise would not be smart. Letting her sit out a game or two? I can see that but again, it comes down to what is popular because what is popular will make money. Money makes new games possible. Get what I'm saying?

That being said, I don't want to see too many more "dead" characters being revived. Sindel's massacre was epic and there should be some lingering aftermath of that to put it over. Kabal, Stryker, and Jax staying dead would be fine by me. I'd much rather see them survived by family members. For instance, Jax's having a son and Stryker having a brother to replace them would be pretty cool, I think.

Almost everything here is taken directly out of my brain.
I know a hell of a lot of females in my city that come over to my house and play Mortal Kombat with me.
Every single one of them pick Kitana. Always.
Also pinpoint where you said;
''I don't want to see too many more "dead" characters being revived. Sindel's massacre was epic and there should be some lingering aftermath of that to put it over."
I don't want that epic historical scene to go to waste.
Not only that, I was really hoping to get more new characters, and we finally are.
Kitana couldn't stay dead, and God knows Liu Kang can't stay dead, hence how many times he's died in the past and been revived in some off-brand beef jerky way.
Just hoping people that are pretty used-up, stay gone.
But I feel like Kitana and Jade are coming back regardless. Jade is the staple black female, and Kitana is the staple heroine female

I'm okay with Kitana and Kung Lao returning... But Jax would be a bummer. Oh well, at least there are new characters!

Yeaaa there are a lot of people who don't want to see jax return ..

Ed Boon retweeted me and I still get favorites and retweets about this post to this day.

Lots of us just don't care for jax.

One more character to announce? Before reveal?

EDIT: Nvm saw the date lulz

It was sarcasm. As in "yes, I see your point for not including Jax since there's only one spot left in the roster, right?". Basically, we can have other characters and those who enjoy Jax - if he's included - can play as him as well. Something for everybody.

I still don't like the idea, though. Here's hoping for more MK 4 characters to finally have a chance to shine. AND a "remake" of zombie Liu Kang from Deception/Armageddon. Hell yeah.

I was never convinced that all of the characters that Sindel 'massacred' were truly dead to begin with. Jade being the exception. Poor girl had her stomach ripped out or whatever. Jax could probably survive what he got. He had his arms blown off, BOTH OF THEM. He lived through that. Hell, prior to MK9 being shown I was saying that ALL previous fighters should return in 1v1 mode(as opposed to story) and then add in new fighters -- in the same way that Tekken does it. I realize that it's sort of a ridiculous request now. I'm happy so far. I just want answers as to why the revived characters have returned. I understand that it'll come in time though.

Well, you know what they say: Great minds think alike!

I have to correct you, though, sir. You are not Tanya's husband, I am. Lol No, seriously, it is cool to see another guy on here who digs her. I'm hoping she comes back. Who knows...she could end up becoming the staple black female character in MK. I honestly think she's a lot more interesting than Jade. Nothing against the lady in green but Tanya is just cooler. Her treacherous nature makes her potentially a huge threat in the MK universe and her moveset was always cool to me, even dating back to her neck snapper twist in MK4/Gold. Plus, I have a thing for black girls who devil worship and Tanya does have a history of playing around with black magic...

Yes it was saracasm from boon but I'm just saying lots of people didn't want jax in ..I think I got maybe ..4 people who actually said they wanted him in.NOT THAT this tweet represents everyone who likes MK
