Street Fighter Team Confirms Mortal Kombat Rivalry Is Back

Agreed! Miguel is such a badass. He always looks shitfaced when he fights. And Roger goes without saying. He's a ****ing Kangaroo, you don't **** with kangaroos. Tekken is the only fighting game I love outside of MK. Amazing how many moves everyone has, and how you can link stuff so fluidly. Even Tekken 2 had a good amount of depth to it! All of em' have!

boys...are we forgetting the princess of tekken? dont mess with me & lili. hehe u guys should challenge me ;)

There is no rivalry because MK is many steps over SF.

You're 18. You missed the prime of each series completely.

I'm not that much older, but I've been playing MK and SF since the time I could hold a controller and press the buttons knowing what I was doing... (When MK2 and Super SF 2 were new)

You grew up with MK's PS2 era and SF 3rd Strike. No comparison.

Most of all, I disagree. I didn't expect to find level-headed talk of the "competition" on an MK board but to say that MK is better isn't entirely true...Both have their strengths and weaknesses, and what one game does wrong the other does correctly.

This kind of makes me wonder if they would make a Street Fighter vs. Mortal Kombat game.

MK9, Street fighter, and Marvel Vs Capcop are 2-D fighters. They are more important to many people. and the sales of these games also help prove this. and hopefully in the near future we will be saying goodbye forever
to 3-D fighters.

Hey, a lot of people like 3D fighting games too, myself include. I'm a big Tekken fan, for example and I know a lot of other fans. Just because you don't like them, doesn't mean they should stop making them. If you don't like them, just play them. Simple as that.

There is nothing wrong with 3D fighters when they are done right. Soul Calibur, Virtua Fighter, Dead or Alive, and Tekken are all great games.

Sigh... i played those Games at times where you still had shit in your Pants. Or you weren't even born at that time. That doesn't mean anything imho.

my first ever fighting game i played was mk1/2/3 (respectively) never got into streetfighter (though i have seen cammy's bare ass quite a few times) played doa3 and soulcalibur 4 (both were pretty good, i used drunken dude in doa3 dont remember name) and of course ive played every single mk game to date.

im curious to try super street fighter 4, but i think ill wait for the new streetfighter game later this year (one of the ones in the links).

lol no way. Just because you don't understand how to play footsies/frame trap/fish doesn't make SSF4 bad.

They're both very different in many ways and both do something better than the other.

I prefer the chess footsies, mixups, combo system and throw mechanics of SSF4. But zoning, juggles, meter management and positioning are more interesting in MK9 for me.

The prime of SF is clearly SSF4 imho. Other SF games don't even come close to being as good/balanced. And yes I played all of them.

And to me MK9 is the best MK so far. UMK3 a close second.

My first fighting game was Mortal Kombat 1, and this was before I actually started to playing games. One of the reasons I was so pumped for this game was because I hadn't played a MK game since I was little, because I hate 3d Fighters. But yeah, I'll take Ninja's over Karate Kids any day. Still waiting for a Pirate Fighter, though :(

i cant play street fighter. its 2 complicated 4 me. i LOOOVE tekken but i also LOOOOVE soul calibur <3

These are the difference (good or bad, depends on opinion):
-Online is better in SF.
every game has better online than mk right now.
3D fighters suck.

Oh, and thanks, Mr. Masters. It's great to hear that even Capcom is taking notice.

thats your opinion. 3d fighters aren't going anywhere just because you don't like them. now if millions of fighting game fans or video game fans in general said they don't like 3d fighters then they might stop making them. fyi i happen to like tekken.

I don't think this will last past this year, MK9 is a great game, the patching out of bugs quickly is excellent and the characters are now probably as balanced as one could hope for (With the inclusion of the coming patch).

But it's online is horrendous. If you intend to play clever and counterattack opponents, unleash your hard practiced combo's, it's not worth your time. And I think that NRS has basically shot themselves in the foot, nay, the face with it.

I played it for a couple of weeks after release, in offline games I had a lot of fun, games were back and forth, the better man always won. But since it'd not feesable to head to a local gaming center all the time, I just haven't been able to play other people, online is pointless, unless you fancy honing your lag reflexes and raising your blood pressure.

Plus AE just came out... And it works...

I just saw the interview and i like the part where he lost his words about what they will do to stay competitive with MK and the extra stuff they had (story, costumes, mods etc...) and his best answer is "wait, to soon to talk, we will have DLC".

There is nothing wrong with 3D fighters when they are done right. Soul Calibur, Virtua Fighter, Dead or Alive, and Tekken are all great games.

Totally agree. SC, Tekken, VF and DOA were always good and fun 3D games and i would love to see a sequel at 360/PS3 of some old games i enjoy back to PS1 like Bushido Blade, Thrill Kill, Last Bronx, BioFreaks, Trap Gunner, Soul Blade, Bloody Roar etc.

3D fighting games are a different beast from 2D. The place where 3D became problematic is when developers tried to take 2D fighting game franchises and move them into 3D. Simply put, something got lost in the transition when they made games like Street Fighter EX and the Mortal Kombat Deadly Alliance trilogy, and all you really gain is a sidestep feature. Not only that, but sidestepping makes projectiles difficult to utilize, and jumping and ducking often get mixed up with sidestepping. In games that started in 3D like Tekken and Soul Calibur 3D works fine, because the characters and fighting styles are built around 3-dimensional movement, but not so much for 2D fighters gone 3D. Jumping is not a big part of the gameplay in most 3D fighters, but for 2D it's the bread and butter, which is why the 3D incarnations of 2D fighting franchises don't really seem to play right. I'm glad that both Street Fighter and Mortal Kombat have made a proper return to 2D.

With the Mortal Kombat vs. Street Fighter rivalry back in full swing, maybe in the future we'll get a proper Mortal Kombat vs. Street Fighter game. I would totally flip for that, because I have pondered the possibilities of it ever since I was a kid, as have many other fighting game fans. The biggest potential roadblock though, as Ed Boon once said, is whether or not Capcom would be willing to sign on for a game where their characters can get dismembered and decapitated. :p

I wouldnt mind some fighting games series that have always been 3D to move to 2D

MK switched to 3D back when everyone and there dog was doing it, but now I could see the reverse happening for some fighters. I mentioned in the gaming section that the Soul Calibur series needs a reboot, cause quite honestly the new one looks very bad. I would like to see how a 2D soul calibur would be like instead. Soul Calibur has some great characters, and weapon gameplay is also something unique they have.

I am all for a 2D soul calibur, in the style of part 2 of course, new ones look too glittery and shiny.
And I think as time goes on, more and more people will start relizing how much better 2D fighters are, and its already showing, like the OP mentioned. Street Fighter4 ,MK9, and Marvel Vs Capcop are the most popular fighters now, not just cause the big names, but people want to play fighters they way they were meant to be played, in 2D.

You post an opinion as if it's a fact and then chastise me for stating mine, all while assuming that I care if 3D fighters continue to exist?

Nice.
