Most of the interview isn't really for hardcore fans, which is weird because I'm not sure who but hardcore fans would watch it to begin with. There's a lot of glossing over the basics of what the comic is, and Ed and Shawn congratulating one another on jobs very well done.
The most interesting thing to me was finding out just how little oversight NRS has over how Shawn expands on the existing characters, like when he asks if it's "OK" that he made up all this lore about where Scorpion's power comes from and how it works. And Ed says, "Oh yeah sure."
It's pretty clear that Shawn is actually changing NRS's views of their own characters, e.g. how much he's developed Kotal Kahn. That's super cool. He's a good writer, so his influence is very welcome.
I didn't watch it, but that's exactly what I noticed on the game, and now I have the konfirmation.
They probably said "hey, the story is this" and he was totally free to fill the holes with his creativity.
That's why I mentioned that there are several things that doesn't exact match. Because they didn't design the game looking to the comics.
Things like, how Scorpion, in the comics, appears to be an undead that has overcome his dark side, and when you play the game you discover he is alive once again. Things like that.
Anyway, I think this gaps are in good hands. And we don't know if until MK11 Shawn will keep writing.
Probably, if this happens, the stories will have more of a match.

If Shawn really knew the story and have all this freedom to write, I really imagine that NRS may have said "Reiko Accords" like a vague thing, and Shawn will make us understand why the hell it's called this way, and many other things.
I imagine Reiko will make a lot of trouble, and Earhtrrealm and Outworld will seal the non agression pact, not only after NR War, but because of Reiko.
