Smoke Thread - "Where There is Smoke, There is Fire!"

Yeah Smokes not nearly as noob friendly as a lot of people think I've been coming up with more stuff that doesn't use the otg glitch and I'm loving it his corner game is just sick

For the high low mixup, I do 3,D+1, sweep, or 3,D+1,2 into combo. Smoke's sweep is so fast that a standing block will get swept. From there I keep the pressure on with following it up. After getting swept 1-2 times they start to low block, which gets you into the combo.

I have to admit though I use the teleport punch a lot on wake up, or anytime someone is starting a combo just outside of hit range. Since so many people start combos before being in hit range I teleport punch them on reaction whenever I see it happening. I can not help it. I have landed the teleport punch 6-7 times in a match without ever getting it blocked. Since Smoke has no real projectile to punish this behavior I have no choice. The bomb misses too much to be reliable when some one is starting to bare down on me.

Been in the lab trying a few corner combos based on being as least repetative as possible 11 hit 34% 3,d1,2,u1 or u2,1,1,2,smoke bomb,2,1,4 replacing the 2,1,4 with xray does the same amount of hits and 44% not his best combos but good for shutting up people that cry about spamming moves

Speaking of spamming moves...

You guys are aware that the teleport comes out way too fast, right? maybe I haven't played enough Smoke yet but if you're not already blocking before he does it, you're getting hit by it. And online, with lag? Like I said, it comes out pretty much instantly, and he can do it anywhere. The one thing I hoped for in the patch was just a smidge of startup time to that.

Smoke does indeed get a bad rep because of the move spammers, but spammers are usually dumb enough to do the teleport even if you're blocking so they're managable.

Full disclose, Noob player here. Fear me. Apparently us Noob players are scrubs too because people can't handle his fireball. Personally I'm surprised the majority of players I see use Smoke's primary outfit, with the full luxurious hair.

I would never ridicule a Noob player. He's just designed for Zoning, along with Sindel and Kano.

As for teleport, as a Smoke player I can usually tell when another Smoke is going to teleport, and it leaves him open for a huge kombo when he whiffs it, so no worries for me there. Just read your opponent better.

@newbie1556 - Anyone that can keep him out well enough (IE - Noob, Sindel). Also anyone that can block High.

@Keith Tennyson - I'll get to work on that.

Hey 13th you missed both Smoke's BnB

26% 8 Hits: 3,D+1 - Smoke Cloud - 3,D+1,2 - Air Throw [No meter]
40% 6 Hits: 3,D+1 - Smoke Cloud - X-ray [X-ray]

thank you for your reply, every character i seem to like has a major disadvantage against smoke and my brother uses smoke thats why i want to know characters that he is weak against :P

Gah that 3, down+1, 2 chain is spam central. Spam spam spaaaaam spamity spam!

Please don't come in here disrespecting Smoke. You're a smart guy I'm assuming, so don't come in here and belittle Smoke in a thread of Smoke fans. I'd suggest you leave unless you have something constructive/mildly witty to add to this thread.

Otherwise go complain to NetherRealm Studios' Twitter account about it. It's not OUR fault that they gave Smoke 2 kombo starters. We're just working with the tools we were given.

Thank you.

Well, I don't think this is true...zoners should not be a problem for our friend Smoke, who has one of the best teleport in the game.
Noob spams shadows? teleport!
Sindel shoots fireballs? teleport!
I don't think Smoke really has bad matchups...

I agree with just about everything but the sindel strategy shakes a better counter against her

Hmm, I don't know. I've lost to a few good Noobs who knew when to predict when I was going to counter their Shadow Tackle with a teleport. Very dangerous.

Also I'll post those kombos up today

thats a bugger for me :P thanks

yeah smoke's teleport pisses my friend off everytime, but he's learned to block. He's playing as Noob all the time now and he's actually getting good. Any advice on how to kick Noob's ass as Smoke?

Noob relies on his projectile game to keep his opponents out, as he doesn't have many combos to rush them down at all. Predict their Shadow Tackle or Shadow Slide and counter with a Teleport Punch. Once they see that their projectile game is useless against a strong teleporter like Smoke, they'll usually try to teleport. Block their teleport and punish.

There, you have it, Noob defeated!

Why use the teleport when you have the shake? I'm no Smoke player so pardon me if the move doesn't work against Noob, but isn't shake the reason why Smoke is a "spammer killer"?
