Reptile Thread - "Argh!"

After a few hours of practice, now I can do this elbow dash whiff more easily, like 70% of the times. Now I just need not to get impatient and do elbow dash before finishing the first combo (3,2,1).
Great character. After learning a few tricks, he's one of my mains again :)

Guide Combos
Slow Force Ball, 1, 2, Acid Spit
(Midscreen) Fast Force Ball, Slow Force Ball, 1, 2, 2, 1
(Corner) 1, 2, 2, 1, 1, Uppercut
1, 2, 2, Slow Force Ball, 3, 2, 1, Acid Stream
Jump Punch, 3, 2, Reptilian Hand, Dash in, Toward + 3, 1 + 2
1, 2, 2, Slow Force Ball, 3, 2, Fast Force Ball, 3, 2, 1, Slime Trail

I started to play a bit as Reptile. Mainly 1 player as netplay still seems a bit meh! Anyway, I always seemed to used Random characters before or use a bit of Scorp, Cage....but Reptile seems quite a cool character (even added the avatar!!!).

Anyway, this won't be much news to you expert players, but I managed to do a 37% combo with him, OK it was simple and a bit of a cheat as it had x-ray in it, but that is a big combo for a very casual player like me!!

1,2,2,slowball, 3, 2, fast ball, x-ray :)

Actually, I reckon I could expand that to have a 3,2 X-ray at the end :)

EDIT - ok just noticed you got that in your list. What does NJP mean? Also seems to add very little extra damage tagging on enhanced and stuff if combo is already long.
thx

NJP is Neutral Jump Punch, It's basically jumping straight up and punching. You'll notice when you jump towards an opponent and use the jump punch you can start a combo but, if you use the NJP and hit the opponent they will bounce off the ground so you can juggle them. I hope that makes sense ^.^

Also, enhanced moves aren't always used to do extra damage, most have properties that you wouldn't get with the normal special (an extra hit, increased distance your opponent is pushed away, armour against attacks or specials). It's all about learning what each enhanced move does so you know the pro's and con's of using them at certain times.

yes thanks...makes some sense.

I was trying to do the xray combo I just mentioned with the 3,2,1, x-ray and seems to push opponent too far away for the x-ray then.

I will persevere. :)

If im not wront the 321Xray was not porrible to do prior the second patch, If you have the game patched you should be able to do it.

Also in a combo, always do the Fast FB first, and then the Slow FB, because n that order they make more damage.

About Xray.

Xray combos are not so recommended with reptile:
why? because the difference of damage they do compared with a combo finished with a slide doesnt worth the use of the Xray, why use the xray just for only 10% (more or less) of damage...
Reptile's Xray is better used alone
when? when you need to do a lot of damage, and one of my favourite ways, when you have only a little piece of health and the opponent throws you a projectile, then use the xray, Reptile's xray has projectile armor.
Never throw a projectile to a Reptile with full meter...

About Enhanceds

Reptile's enhanced moves have some interesting properties.

His enhanced Slide makes only a little more damage, but is faster and goes further.
His enhanced Acid spit is a great anti air.
His enhanced Acid had pop ups the enemy.
His enhanced Forceballs are great to play mind games.

Hey thank you - that's one of the best replies I could have hoped for.

I have learned a lot, especially about using the x-ray against projectiles.... :)

Thanks.

But by the way, you are talking way above my skill level really - I understand all the stuff you great players talk about, but.........................

bring back Quake 3 (pc) - now that's a game I could
play......oh, wait they have Quake Live FTW!!!!

Anyway - really liking reptile now, I like the fact I feel I have achracter that I will prefer, whatever version of the game and whetrher he is strong or weak!!!

if u want to learn reptile for good:

- d4xxAcidhand (in practically that would be d4b2)

- BnB1: 122xxBall,32xxBall,321xxSlide/Inv.

- BnB2: 321xxElDash, NJP, 32xxBall, Ball, 321xxSlide/invi.

- BnB3: Any combo of a Ball

- Elbowdash(wiffed) -> JumpInPunch or D4Hand or etc ..

- BnBs: of EXAcidHand

- EXSlowBall too ElDash (normal slow Ball works too but isn't as safe)

I think using FastBall first = 1% more dmg..

thanks, though I don't really understand the way that is written - (no criticism - I am a bit noobie!!)

bnb-bread and butter which is your go to combos

d4 (down+4)xx(cancel into) acid hand (one of his special moves) 4 is a universal input for back kick (1=front punch, 2=back punch, 3=front kick)

ball=fast or slow ball, usually best to start with fast if you can, more damage!

elbow dash whiff means to intentionally miss with reptiles elbow dash for better positioning.

njp=neutral jump punch

thx and ouch, you guys are way
above my level, but always good to learn!!!!!!

when i joined i didnt know any of the lingo, i just puzzled it out/asked around. you will pick it up no problem so long as you try. the elbow dash whiffing is actually easier then youd think, the timing the njp takes a lot of practice.

sry ..didn'T think about u being new.. I thought ur just new to reptile ^^

well ..when u mastered the stuff I've written down - come back and I'll give u some new stuff :D

edit: but u will find urself using the combos and tricks the most ..

I main sub zero and I am curious about reptile what are his bnb's common setups combo starters ect.

Everything u need to know was allrdy described on this page ..
