Old School roll call!!!

Lol I remember playing UMK3 on Genesis
Well if you could call button mashing playing...

The worst part is that my bro did Smoke's Brutality on me by mashing the controller to holy Hell...

lmao, that is how I did some of the fatalities but I never remembered which buttons I pressed :/

I first played Mortal Kombat at one of my favorite Peter Piper Pizza's after school! My buddy introduced it to me, telling me how awesome it was. We had to use the little kid method of scooting one of the benches up to the arcade cabinet so we could see better. It was awesome!

My very first match ever, I was Sub-Zero, he was Raiden and we both thought the uppercut was a special move and he beat me because he only told me how to do it halfway through our match. Until he told me how to do it I seriously thought it was a special move unique to Raiden hahaha. Ahhhh good times!

Ever since I saw my first uppercut and the amount of blood that was involved there was no going back! MK for life baby!

Speaking of MK music, is there a better opening sequence than the thunderclap in MK2? I don't think so.

I think most of the reason I'm psyched for the new MK is that it seems like it was everything that was awesome about the old games updated for today's game systems.

Hahaha! That is how I used to find MK II in the arcades. Throughout all the noise and the hustle n' bustle I could always hear the epic thunder clap that was the MK II title screen! SO AWESOME!

I guess the fact that this thread used to also be about the old school MK kommunity as well has sort of gotten lost... Then again, I haven't seen hardly anyone from the old days of TRMK other than me here lately...

I remember the first time I saw Reptile in the pit. I have an obsession with green so I just died when I saw there was a green ninja <.< My brother got there, can't remember if it were by accident or if he found out how to fight him from somewhere, but that was a cool moment.

I miss playing MK in arcades. When I was little, we had a roller rink that had an MK3 machine. I remember the first time I learned to roller blade, I couldn't stop and I crashed right into the machine. Despite all the bruises, that's one of my fondest memories of being a kid.

I miss playing in arcades as well. I can't say that I ever crashed into a machine on skates, though. I was a good bit older than you back then too though.

Played MK1 and MK2 at Aladdin's Castle almost everyday. MK1 came out right after I got my license so to the mall my friends and I would go. We started booking after hours birthday parties because it was like $65 and you got $200 worth of tokens, 6 of us would split the cost and get 2 hours alone in Aladdin's Castle and pretty much all we played was MK. The guy that worked there thought it was funny that every other weekend one of 6 of us had a "birthday".

played MK II at the local pizza hut here in my hometown, that and i think it was samurai showdown the only 2 arcades they had in there 'arcade room'

MK1:
Played on it in a crappy old cafe whilst waiting for my bus after skaetboarding,
When it was released on the consoles, i used to play it on the demo pods on the SNES in our local game shop.. people were amazed that i knew the game so well and performed fatalities.. most were unaware it was ported fromm an arcade game

MK2:
Frequented the arcades at this time, sf2, xmen, king of fighters, etc...
I was there when they had the MK2 machine delivered..the wrapping was still around the floor/cabinet when we started to play it!! MASSIVE crowds...
People did sell the moves list for £3 each.. i bough one.. :) and made my own booklet complete with pics etc.. (still have it!)

MK3:
I was a games tester when this came out and worked on the gamegear and gameboy versions...
We had the arcade cabinet in the office!!, i played it every dinner time for about a month!!!!

GOOD TIMES!!!

Good to see this thread is still going!

Now we're talking about first experiences, we had arcades in our home town and it was mostly SF2 (too hard for me) until the Atari Pit Fighter came out, and that blew everyone away, but the game sucked. Then MK1 turned up and our lives changed forever. Then the internet happened and moves lists started to come out, and I'd printed one out for MK1. The look on people's faces when I managed to get into the Pit to fight Reptile was awesome!
The rest is history, but now I have my own machine to play with:

Arcade crew checkin' in here too. Funny now that we're all older, we make decent money and everyone wants to get a cabinet. When I rent out my condo and get a proper house, I'll be doing that myself.

I miss being in arcades period. I still remember the crowd that was around MK1 when it first came out, I was 12. I stood on my tip-tops as I heard "Finish Him!" and saw Raiden's Fatality. Life was changed, LOL.

How old are you? Any old school MK players here?

So as i'm sitting here waiting for PSN to update and to get home from work, it dawned on me that i'll be 33 this year. Damn i'm old. I played the first MK in the arcade a little bit and then on the SNES, yes the version without the blood. Then came MK2 on the arcade which I dumped god knows how much money into. I remember going to school, not eating lunch just so I could take my lunch money up to the pizza shop and play MK2 after school. I of course bought MK2 on the SNES as well and did the same with MK3 and UMK3 on the PlayStation. I never played any Mortal Kombat after UMK3 to any extent because they never really felt like a true MK game. MK2 was my favorite of the series, no real special reason I guess, just the one I played the most. I still play it a good amount to this day on my PS3.

So as I'm sitting here waiting to get out of work I feel almost like a little kid on Christmas waiting to get home. Sad? A little bit but it's also reminding me what it was like back in the day waiting to get out of school to go play MK in the arcade or waiting for the release of MK on the SNES.

Re: How old are you? Any old school MK players here?
