OH SH-- Hackers Threaten Sony

Re: OH SH-- Hackers Threants Sony

ok i read up on this Hotz guy .

Can some1 in simple terms tell me what hes getting sued for exactly?

He jailbroke a PS3 because Sony removed something from the PS3 which he didnt agree with and the thing was actually promoted by Sony still, which leads to false advertisement on Sony's part, but Sony still sued his ass for Jailbreaking the PS3.

Re: OH SH-- Hackers Threants Sony

Re: OH SH-- Hackers Threants Sony

Ok otherOs was taken off because of the importing of burned or illegal downloads of games its there fault its gone not sony's and why are people say this is ok it not its stealing they did not hack it they stole it from sony 's techpeople that is why gohot is getting sued not for hacking but for the sell of stolen sony products and in tell

Re: OH SH-- Hackers Threants Sony

There's an enormous amount of irony to be had here. Hotz hacks the PS3 because he felt the removal of OtherOS was wrong as it was a publicly promoted feature of the PS3 which technically constitutes false advertising but doing so got him slapped with a subpoena.

So a rebellious group of internet hackers take down the PSN over it - essentially attacking Sony for removing the feature by, in fact, removing another feature. :P

I don't think its gonna be removed permanently like the OtherOS is, so it's slightly different in that respect.

Kudos on the April Fool's joke, too.

Sony claims that he violated some copyright laws by creating and distributing programs that allow people to hack the PS3. They're also suing him for breach of contract because "he violated the PSN user agreement". (When you sign up for PSN or XBL, they have to electronically sign the user agreement, which is a legal contract.)

This issue is precarious. On one hand, a company has a right to protect its product, but that's almost impossible since anything a human can create can be reverse engineered by an human. On the other hand, enforcing such protections can set a really bad legal president as far as free speech and general freedom is concerned.

Re: OH SH-- Hackers Threants Sony

This is BS

"Sony hit him with a lawsuit and demanded social media sites, including YouTube to hand over IP addresses of people who visited Geohot's social pages/videos. Paypal has granted access to Sony for them to view Geohot's PayPal account. The judge of the case has given permission to Sony to view the IP addresses of everyone who visited geohot.com."

I don't know why this upsets you, but they do good things, too. They recently got this strip club bouncer arrested for beating up a customer, stealing his money, and generally humiliating him in the club's bathroom. They've also caught a few animal torturers caught, too.

Re: OH SH-- Hackers Threants Sony

You take the good with the bad with Anonymous. For this, I think Sony really over-reacted on this case. People jailbreak consoles (ALL console, not just the PS3) all the time, why should this be any different?

Re: OH SH-- Hackers Threants Sony

and i agree to you get banned -rep and report

He isn't going to get banned for sharing his opinion....come on, dude, let's be serious here...sure, people wont agree with what he has to say, but we don't ban people for that. He didn't do anything against the rules, he just shared his opinion.

Also, please don't flame people. I will delete the post in which you name called, please don't do it again. THAT is against the rules and worthy of a ban, if you keep doing it after being told ;)

~Thanks =)

Re: OH SH-- Hackers Threants Sony

i dont have time to read through the whole post so im just going to post my thoughts.

summed up, Sony is just acting like a little girl targeting the wrong person.

ok now for me to back up my claims, a LOT of people THINK hacking is illegal, WHICH IT IS NOT, modifying a firmware to meet the consumers needs does NOT infringe the Millennium Digital Rights Act of 2000, being a somewhat experienced hacker i would know this. ok first off, what GEOhot DID do was violate Sonys User Agreement, but also Sony violated the mans personal life and accuse him of stuff he did NOT do.

GeoHot only posted the exploit to modify the firmware. he did not release any Homebrew to directly read off ISOs from Harddrives or DVD-R Discs, that was done by someone else. if in all honesty, Sony wants to sue someone, they should sue the person who made the ISO HDD code.

Sony also violated EVERYONE'S privacy who even VISITED the site, Sony paid off the ICC to keep track of EVERYONE'S IP address that visited the GeoHot website.

they also gained access to his paypal account and has his record for over 2 years.

Sony also accused him of fleeing the country when he went to south america for spring break, i SERIOUSLY hope Sony looses this case so they can learn a lesson about suing everyone who has done nothing wrong lawfully, in the terms of use, sony did not mention the violation of privacy they would do to you if you happen violate it.

also im VERY happy to hear Microsoft will be paying his debt if he does loose his case, a cut throat corp is going to be shown up by an even more cut throat corp, i i find the link to this i will edit my post and add it so people wont think im lying, i just hope Sony stops being a butt hurt 12 year old and learn to suck it up, you didn't see Microsoft sue every body who made the Free boots, they didn't sue the people who released the code to make a MSP generator and stole MILLIONS of MSP from them, instead they acted like the adult, found the source, terminated it, patched it up and moved on, sony will just sue you, microsoft will just ban you

Re: OH SH-- Hackers Threants Sony

Attention whores, if you want to make an impact why make a youtube video bringing attention to yourselves? It's bc they want fame and fans, if nobody pays attention to them they wouldn't do what they do. They're a bunch of computer geeks who want to be like their heroes they read about in comic books, they're wannabe vigilantees with a bogus cause. how bout you spend your time and knowledge dealing with something actually important, not ****ing online gamming you losers.

Weather you agree or not it's the LAW and George Hotz broke the LAW, it doesn't matter what your beliefs are, if you live here you abide by our laws and your opinion on the matter is irrelevant.

Re: OH SH-- Hackers Threants Sony

well lets hope everything goes good, as long as if they dont ruin my dream of getting a pink kitana alternate, im good ;) *flips hair*
