Official Street Fighter Thread

well the original concept was the world warriors fighting from different countries to find out who was the best.

That notion has gone out the window post-SF2. Besides, I don't see anything meaningful achieved by that. Shoehorning in a character of a different nationality for the sake of representing county X isn't going to make the character more interesting.

so we got:

1. Ryu
2. Ken
3. Birdie
4. C. Nash
5. Cammy
6. Chun-Li
7. M. Bison
8. R. Mika
9. Vega
10. classic
11. classic
12. classic
13. new
14. new
15. Necalli
16. Rashid

who do you think we'll get in the last three spots of the oldies? I'm guessing one spot will be given to Akuma, one spot to a female and one more male that will be a roster risk rather than a super classic
Under which category would a Final Fight character who never appeared in an SF game fall under? New or Classic? Reason I ask is because Street Fighter and Final Fight are in the same canonical universe.

err I guess classic? they said four chars will be new, as in, brand new and making their debut in SFV, so I don't believe we'll be seeing anyone from FF anyway

When I think of classics, I think of the original 12 from SF2. Some characters like Birdie originated from SF1, but the debut entry into the series was unrefined and mostly forgettable.

Poison was treated as a new character in SFxT/USF4, not a classic.
But she was an NPC in SF3 when Hugo first appeared in an SF game.

Also, Hugo's original name in Final Fight was Andore (a reference to the legendary WWE Rassler Andre the Giant, who he was also based on). I wish I knew why they had changed his name (was Capcom facing legal action from either WWE or the estate of Andre the Giant or something like that?), or if this is a case of Charlie/Nash where both names for the same character are canon.

Either she's in the game or she's not. It's black and white with no gray in between.

And by the way, Final Fight games count as Street Fighter games, and vice versa due to being the same universe.

No, not really. She was an NPC in SF3+ and an enemy in Final Fight series, but her first playable debut in the Street Fighter series was SFxT. Final Fight might exist in the same universe, but they are still not Street Fighter games.

I don't think Final Fight was even part of the Street Fighter universe until Alpha. Capcom just needed an excuse include include Final Fight characters into the Street Fighter games.

I don't think a Final Fight character will make it in the starting roster. It's more likely going to go to a SF2 character. Anyways, there is supposedly going to be another reveal at the Tokyo Game Show next week.

The tentative title for Final Fight prior to release was in fact Street Fighter II. Just wanted to point that out.

It may have been Capcom's original intention, but in the end, Final Fight turned into its own series. Developers can (and do) change their minds about their games and what they want to do with them.

It's own series that got linked to Street Fighter's canon universe anyway.

Good look with the trailer.

Karin looks cool, also she got that surprise booty. Looks like she has some good buttons for spacing
