Official Mortal Kombat (2011) Video Thread

What scares me (well, not really...) is that you will have to spend so many hours on EVERY character to be somewhat good; I remember I spent at least TWO days on each character in Soul Calibur IV, but that was a different and more complex game.

I agree, they didn't add a "custom combo" system if you have to just copy other players' style. I think that is where most of the fun resides.
And if I suck who cares, it will be a lot of fun anyway, unless the AI difficulty is low like in the demo or frustrating/near unplayable like in MKII...

Indeed, getting good with all the characters will definitely take time, and patience. Because even though I love the whole roster (for the first time ever), I will always have my favorites that will detract me from learning other characters. I'm sure that's the case for many fans.

The combo making is heaps of fun, and addictive too. I like that you referred to it as style; creating a unique style is a goal of mine. As for the difficulty of the game, that's where we differ. Give me hell. Too much MK2 has made me expect that kind of ramp.

Anyway I think you will enjoy the game no matter what.

Re: Brand new Check combos (Mileena dash-triple-uppercut FTW!)

I was thinking of making a combo thread myself, so thanks for posting these, Jakarta.

Long, high-damage combos are not what make a game broken, either.

Has anyone been able to string 3 enhanced specials into a single combo? The best combo I can get (consistently) with Mileena is a jumping punch, then the first 2 hits of her Slap Around autocombo, Ground Roll, Slap Around (2 hit juggle), Teleport Kick, air Sai Shot. I've been trying to land the same thing with enhanced specials, but can't get all three. I'm wondering if 3 enhanced is more damaging than a single X-Ray.

I will enjoy it for sure, I can say without any doubt that this is my most anticipated game of all time, no jokes!
I'll miss the time spent on this board when the game will be out, it's like in the early '90s when we used to buy magazines searching for infos and talk for hours about videogames (and MK of course!) without even having the chance to play them all! Those were good times!

About the difficulty: MKII's one is definitely broken.
To win you have to memorize all the patterns and counter attack, that's all, and even in that case you'll get your ass served on a plate most of the time.
The spear and ice ball NEVER lands, and the opponent just walks in when you are doing a move and throws you, and I'm talking about VERY EASY setting!
It's just frustrating!

Damn, that is a good idea. Don't know why I hadn't thought of that. I'm going to attempt that asap.

I can make them land ;)
You just need to interrupt an attack, for example try landing SZ's ice ball when your opponent's throwing a punch up close.
It is definitely a cheap AI, but I still find it enjoyable. I've also heard, once you reach the third opponent on the tower, the difficulty kicks into the highest setting possible. Which means the Easy setting only applies to the first 2 opponents. I'll find out if that's actually the case.

Creating combos is nice! In MKvsDCU, instead of searching for combos on the Internet and trying to reproduce them, I just created my own combos for Kitana and Sonya. It's fun to try combinations and see what gives you more hits, what gives you more damage...

Some of those combos like Sub Zero's im sure can be blocked lol but I don't know I havent played the demo yet . .

Hey quick question is there anywhere I can download the cinematic trailers or the vigs?

I'm not sure if there's a website where you can directly download them, but you can download the youtube video and convert it to a file that you can view on your computer. You can use these websites: http://www.flvto.com/ or http://www.onlinevideoconverter.com/. Just put in the link and convert it into a file your computer can view.
