Tanya was a merged version of Jade and Mileena. She wasn't original.
That's a bit harsh. I know that it's down to your personal opinion but what about Quan Chi, Tanya, Fujin, Frost & Reiko? Come on you must have a bit of love for at least one of them.

wut? Then how was Jade able to "spill" Tarkatan essence on Tanya to make her desired by tarkatan. (Basically her getting raped literally by blade weidling dudes.) if they are one in the same. That doesn't add up, show me proof please
Unless you mean, she's just merged "In the developers mind". which makes your point invalid because she would still be a "new character" even if some of her looks/moves were ripped off another character. That's like saying Frost isn't a new character cuz she's a gender bender version of subzero. She may be ripped off of subzero, but she is still a "new character"

I get what you are saying, should've worded it better. I guess we should decide if we're talking about gameplay new mechanics, or just a character in general to add more flavor to the story.
Cuz alot of characters in Mortal Kombat share similar moves lol.

This game could benefit from looking at how other fighters "vary" their characters.
BlazBlue/Guilty Gear/Street Fighter have atleast 1 power house Grappler like character. Goro/Kintaro could easily fill this role if they were dumbed down to be balanced. Or a new character like this thread is encouraging. Jax is probably the closest thing to this in this game. Just because his X-ray is a grab.
Or a trap like character.
Other fighting game examples would be "Guilty Gear's Testament"
Or sorta how the chick from devil may cry works in MvC3.
To add a little variety to the game.
Bang from Blazblu has interesting drive moves. his drive moves are basically delayed power moves that have blocking frames at start up. Works like a counter hit.
More variety in fighting stylse would be nice.

I like the idea of new characters but I'm kind of warry about it at the same time. Usually new MK characters get some pretty cool stuff like Skarlett and that mysterious female character who possessed Jade in her ending, to complete garbage like Hsu Hao or Mokap. And then there's those really good designs like Bo Rai Cho ruined by a shitty, gimmicky moveset. Personally I'm all for reintroducing the post-MK3 cast to the series again...revamped, that is.

not to mention New characters make the game extremely hard to balance.
Lets say this move is balanced against half the cast. And is overpowered against the other half. Nerfing this "move" would make this character even with half the cast and now a unwinning matchup for the rest. cuz of 1 change. The more characters you add the harder it is to reach game balance.

I want to see what new characters they come up with for the next game. For DLC, there's already Skarlet, and everyone is waiting for Rain, and them they'll probably get some of the best characters from MK4+, like Shinnok, Kenshi, Reiko, Tanya.

We've seen Skarlett before, we've never seen those three characters. The closest is an alt costume of Cyrax from either Armageddon or Deception. He was still partially robotic though, we've never seen him fully human.

You're right, let's remake the first three Super Mario games and include Yoshi, we never saw him, but he might be there.
They had more story in the first three games than any that followed, they couldn't just toss a random character in there. What would they say "He was there the whole time! We just forgot him."
Like it's been said already, MK has way too many characters as it is, they've gotta kill some off, before they bring more in.

New characters in MK have sucked, imo, so I prefer the old school roster. All characters after UMK3/Trilogy blew.

trust me im an oldschool hardcore mk fan, my interest stopped after trilogy but the only one that i liked was kenshi and i guess boon agreeds with me because he's the first dlc, hell yeah. but to be fair to the post MK trilogy fans maybe the best fighters out of those 3Dmk's can redeem themselves because having them fighting in a 2D plane will give them a better chance to showcase their skills better. like i said the only one i like is kenshi but to the post trilogy fans let me know which are your TOP 5 FIGHTERS.
