Mortal Kombat HD Remix with MUGEN

So, the sound effects and voices will be re-recorded or just remixed?

They're redoing it with all-new sound effects. If you check back a bit, you can hear some of the recordings for the announcer -- the guy a very good Boon impersonation. Also, if you watch the videos of the project in motion you can hear some of the new sound effects as they are being put to use.

Well, that explains why the announcer I heard didn't sound anything like the MK1 announcer.
They are trying to imitate Ed Boon instead of Steve Ritchie! :D

I'd say that we are just over 52% complete.

Both Scorp Endings are Completed
Both Sub Endings are Completed etc.

I would have thought it would have been wise for a simple spreadsheet to be setup listing everything that needs doing, from music/sound/portraits/list of sprites etc, then just check off everything that has been completed as it's advised. That way you can have a quick look at what's complete, what still needs to be done, and even will give you a good indication of percentage complete.

Still looking good as ever. Will be fun to see another clip with a new character when they are ready.

I must say that it will be much better if you guys will remake turning animations - Liu Kang need the same looking drape on his right and left legs, Cage, Raiden, Sonya, Goro needs to use their hands to move their sashes. Kano need the second set of sprites 1 - with his steel plate, 2 with his humanish part of face.

Tom,

Get us better voice actors then. No one cares what you think if you aren't helping to improve this project. Criticizing what has been done is a total waste of time. In fact I am wasting my time replying to your post.

Seeing how a polite, clearly personal opinion like this

The attempt at the new announcer and sound effects could have been better in my opinion.

merits a flipout like this from you

only goes to confirm that you are simply incapable of handling anything that remotely resembles criticism without entering defensive shit-throwing mode.
Leaves one wondering what people dealing with you in real life have to go through.

It was my understanding at the time that the new announcer and voices were a trial thing, that they were still a WIP. I thought I would mention my opinion on the matter since the talk about percentage finished came up and it was listed as finished. I feel the same way about the voices/sounds as the sonya models (they need more work). When the clips with the new announcer were shown on stream on twitch to the pro MK players the first thing they all said was how "you guys need to work on the voices"

I'm not the only one with this opinion. I'm not trying to criticize finished assets. I just had no idea that the voices were considered "finished" at this time. Also you guys are thinking of percentage done without taking into account any programing time. Also there are seven main characters (Cage, Kano, Raiden, Kang, Ninjas, Sonya, Goro). Shang Tsung has very little animations. You guys just have the ninja finished. 50+% seems extremely high. Its doubtful you can put an accurate number on it anyways.

Interesting assumption. I won't disagree, I'm a bit of a hard ass. Sometimes I'm even a dick. Also I can be a narcissist and probably a little too honest for my own good. I have an ego the size of NYC as well. I'm well aware of my faults as a human being. But that isn't what this is about. I wasn't flipping out at all. Just annoyed. Critics are annoying to me. Everyone thinks because they have an opinion that it should be shared. I disagree. Now when YOU uKER tell me you don't like something about the project, I can respect that. You are an artist. You've contributed. You've earned the right to criticize something you've helped create.

I'm sure Tom is probably a great guy in real life but, I really take offense to him criticizing anything about this project until he contributes in some way. Don't tell me what's wrong, work on helping me fix it. Don't waste my time with your negativity. Give me solutions, not point out the problems. Anyone can do that. And let me ask you what the purpose of making a statement like this is? Did he mean to ask a question? It wasn't "Is this the final announcer's voice?". It was, "I don't like this." Good for him. No one cares. It is such a subjective thing. It isn't even something obvious like if Lui Kang had buck teeth or Cage was too fat. Literally his statement holds absolutely no weight and is kind of rude to the person who actually put their time into doing the voice. It's rude to me personally who made what I thought was a good selection for the voice actor. Why aren't you rushing to defend the talent? Also how is stating your criticism ever "polite"? Do you go to a dinner party with your GF or spouse and then at the end of the meal say, you have a beautiful house but the meal wasn't very good. In fact I dare you to do that and see what kind of 'polite' response you receive from the host.

So yes, my annoyed response was totally warranted, sorry if you disagree.

I'm well aware that some people won't like the voice. Now I'm aware that you are in that crowd. Guess what? People aren't exactly volunteering to redo the announcer's voice. How should I go about 'fixing' this problem? Also should I make this a priority now that I know you don't like it? Have we received ANY funding for this? Should I kidnap Ed Boon and force him at gunpoint to redo the voices so that it meets your high standards? This kind of criticism, without being followed up with a solution will ALWAYS get an angry response from me. Sorry, maybe I care too much about the project. So let it be known, if you make a criticism, without offering a solution, I will treat you as I would a troll. You seem pretty reasonable Tom so I'll ask you nicely.

Please don't criticize something about this project when you haven't contributed and haven't provided a solution. Something like "Hey I know this guy who sounds exactly like the original announcer's voice. Want me to contact him?" or "Hey now that I know the voices aren't final and I'm not a huge fan of them, I'm on the look out for someone to redo the voices for this project."

For that kind of statement you'd get an enthusiastic, "YES! and thanks for your help."

So any negative opinion (no matter how polite) that doesn't provide you with a solution equals to trolling?
What do you do when a client of yours says what you turned in isn't just what he dreamt of?
Throw it in his face and yell that he do it himself if he thinks he is so good?
Man, seriously, I don't really get how you go about your work and life itself dealing with criticism the way rabid dogs deal with people trying to steal their food.

Sometimes an outsider to the project may point out something that you hadn't noticed, or open you up to noticing that something that may turn out not to be as good as you thought it was.

In this particular case, I've seen you and others praising the current announcer as spectacularly perfect, spot on, and whatnot.
It isn't the first time I've seen you raving about stuff probably just because it's what was turned in to you by people you happen to like.
It's great to commend your collaborators on their work, but it's an entirely different thing to throw shit in the face of people that suggest there's still room for improvement.

BTW, again, despite everyone saying he is, I still think the announcer in MK1 was not Boon but Steve Ritchie (I can't find a reliable source either way).
In any case, the announcer has a deep voice comparable to that of Peter Cullen, both of which have a quality that can't be touched by some random guy doing a yawny voice, regardless of the fancy condenser mike, the soundproof booth or any postproduction effects.
And while I can't provide anyone that can do an acceptable job, I don't think you should throw shit in the face of someone suggesting the current one isn't really up to par, just like the first iterations of Liu Kang, the current state of the Sonya model which I've been trying to help @Cris Berserk with, or some of the portraits (Liu Kang, Goro) and models (Shang Tsung) I've pointed out before and (unfruitfully) tried to do something about.

OK so you are the one with the problem uKER. You've said as much in the past. Because I didn't agree with some of your criticism you've ignored the times I did agree with you. Yes I'm biased. I'm biased to people who actually contribute.

Also since when did this become about how I operate on a daily basis for my day job as a CD? Why does that even enter into this?
Yes I've fired clients before. A good CD knows when to roll with the punches and when to defend their idea. I've also persuaded clients into trying a new idea. But listen, I'm not being paid for this. The same rules don't at all apply. Instead if you'd like to make a comparison, this is how I'd treat my staff. You never come to me with a problem without a solution. Why? Because I pay them to be creative. Again, I fail to see how any of this has ANYTHING to do with what we are talking about here.

You seem pretty sour on the whole portraits incident still. I hope that you'll let it go because I value your creative input. If not, I'll just ignore you and move on. I don't need to argue with you. It isn't productive just like offering criticism without solutions isn't productive.

I don't even know what you'd like from me? An apology? I'm sorry you felt that my response to Tom was inappropriate. I respectfully disagree. I'm sorry if you don't see things from my perspective and that you don't agree with why I was annoyed. I don't see how my personal life or job has anything to do with this project. You are basically saying you don't like me and you can't understand me. Fair enough. Can we move on?

I don't want anything. :)
I'm just providing my point of view on disagreeing with the way you dealt with what I think was honest, polite criticism.
And I comment on it because I was on the receiving end of that once.

And I'm not sour on the portraits thing. I don't know why you say that.
I thought me sticking around and still trying to contribute to this deal would have showed that by now.
I do, however, still think the portraits for Goro and Liu Kang aren't up to par if that's what you are talking about.

I thought the voices sounded pretty good. I have only heard the ones used in the videos interloko posted, but I think they sounded fine.
