Mortal Kombat HD Remix with MUGEN

I guess so, but I think we will use just the mirrored frame


What I did was mirror the animation using the biped's copy and paste tools.
Go key frame by key frame, copy pose, paste mirror, maybe rotate the root bone to have him facing the right direction. I had to turn off the planted keys while flipping, and later turn them back on.

One, to be used as the second half of the turn was playing in reverse, to deal with the asymmetry.

You can use half the frames from one, and half the frames from the other to get the lighting to flip half way through the animation and the character animation stays the same.


It helps if the turn pose isn't a simple mirror flip, like with Cage where he does that arc motion.
 
I'm messing with Displacement mapping Raiden's head, having a hell of a time with it...

Many details like fine wrinkles and pores are missing, weird artifacts are showing up. My UVs got all broken and I can't seem to be able to fix it. For Displacement, I have to lower the Edge Length = How many polygons per pixel, but going lower than .5 takes way too long to render. The lower the number the more detail you get.

I don't know..., just have to keep messing with it till I figure it out.

I am using GoZ, but I'm getting a lot of problems with the head, just the head so far. Looks like the UV problem is with 3ds Max. Exporting a model from max in to Zbrush makes the UV or vertex order get jumbled.

I just tried unwrapping the UVs in 3D coat, and importing to Zbrush without problems. I want the Cylinder unwrap for the head though, can't do it in 3D coat, so I'll try Maya.



[edit] Yup, maya worked fine, UVs are good. One problem down, now to fix the displacement.

How many lights are you using?.
If you are using only one should put one in front of the same distance and intensity at the same height.
I mean make a horizontal mirror each light to use.
 
Why don't you guys not worry about getting the turning animations perfect? Just use half of it and flip it. You were talking about asymmetrical characters like Kano before, but Liu Kang's hair style is parted on one side. So when he turns his hair will be showing the un-parted side for a few split seconds than be back in fighting stance with the part showing again. Why bother getting that one so perfect? Not to be be negative here, but you guys seems to have been battling with it for a while and it would be better to just move on to another animation. I mean we all understand the strangeness that is sprite flipping and accept it. Again not trying to sound negative.

The site does need updating, but as to what updates are specifically made, I could use some input. Cal? Bleed? Should the percentage be raised? What character info should be added? Anything else?
 
Well the site has Scorpion ending 2 and Bio listed as incomplete, are those done?
Sub-Zero bio unfinished.
Shang Tsung it says that most of the animations are done. I've only ever seen the fighting stance.

From what I remember Liu Kang has a fighting stance and turning animation so far, portrait is done too. Kano's portrait is done too, but I've never seen any animations. Rayden I've only ever seen the model itself, Johnny Cage has a fighting stance and a turning animation and maybe a portrait. Sonya is iffy, cause there have been a few models of her so I'm not sure what's going on with her. Goro I have never seen animated.

That's just what I remember. Hopefully someone with access to the dropbox and a good memory of the work can fill you in.


Actually, come to think of it, The ninja models were created fairly quick and put into the game. Maybe you guys should try to set a goal of when to finish a certain model. I remember before you had pushed to finish Scorpion. I realize other things come up and people get busy/don't have time. But at least if you set forth a deadline for whatever character you are working on, things would speed up.

It would be better if the light would move smoothly through the body during turning animation, because now it just switches immediately in one frame.
 
Now that we get to see him in a different angle, Liu Kang's shoulders look impossibly swollen.
Not just the volume, but the shoulder muscle reaches too low in the arm.
Here's an examplification of what it could look like.
While I was at it, I took the chance to show the reduction in the shoes I suggested earlier, and made the pants a little less baggy in the crotch.

Also, I see his right elbow is reaching too far back. In the original there is never negative space between his right elbow and his body, and the upper arm is pretty much stuck to the body the whole time.

I'd say that we are just over 52% complete.

Both Scorp Endings are Completed
Both Sub Endings are Completed

As far as I'm concerned those character are completed, (Scorp, Sub, Reptile)

Shang Tsung's Animations are nearly Completed. I've posted everything he does in video format awhile back.
All his Morphs for each character have yet to be done but that is because we don't have the characters.

Shang's Portrait is done

Goro is modeled but needs rigging and animation (forget my attempt at animating him)

Goro's Portrait is done

Lui Kang's Portrait is done
Lui Kang is modeled
Lui Kang has resting stance and turn animations


Kano's Portrait is done
Kano is Modeled

I'm still not 100% on Sonya. Cris's version looks good but I think that it could be better. I think it is good enough for the statue though.

Cage's is rigged
Cage resting pose is done.
Cage needs both ending screens

Raiden is modeled
Raiden is rigged
Raiden needs textures and animations, Portrait, endings

All characters but Scorp/Sub need TYM animations.

All game backgrounds are complete except for the Warrior's Shrine which still needs statues (Kano, Sonya, Lui Kang, Cage)

Announcers Voice Recorded
Scorpion special sfx are done I think
Sub special sfx are done I think
Blood and Falling from Swept/UpperCut Sound Fx are complete
Man and Woman fall from pit sounds complete



Need male and female screams for fatalities and jump kicks

Need TYM breaking sfx.
Need Shang's screaming skull SFX.
