Mortal Kombat HD Remix with MUGEN

My opinion is that the other stone statues are too shiny anyway... they look like plastic to me. No offense calactyte.

If these statues are as aged as they are (notice the cracks and chips) then there wouldn't really be any gloss to them at all just bright spots from the light. IMO.

The original games have the statues being semi glossy. There are many different types of stone materials in this world. The statues as they were intended in the original game have a sort of polished stone. You are of course more than welcome to disagree but I am not changing it now.

I realize that, but I'm saying I think the original game is wrong not YOUR statues per say, I know yours are spot on with the game, it just was an opinion... sorry if I offended you.

Also, the lack of blood despite all the fights to the death that go on. Maybe the masked guards have janitorial duties in their job description and they "wax on, wax off" the statues. :P

There are many things "wrong" in the original game. Lighting on the backgrounds for example, doesn't make sense at all. If you change it to be realistic you'd get a completely different look of the game.

No big deal man. I actually agree with you. It makes pretty much no sense what so ever that the statues would be shiny yet cracked and old at the same time unless as some have humorously posted, they were shined up between matches, (which explains why there isn't any blood or dirt on them)

But as LaLuna said, tons of things made no sense such as the lighting. If I were to change these things (drastically) like make the background look like movie sets instead of semi flat, semi illustrated objects, then you'd lose some of what makes Mortal Kombat charming. There are alot of people who would disagree. Many want "improvements" to everything. We've really struggled with this but ultimately we decided to take the hardline and reproduce many of the visual mistakes so that doesn't feel like a different game. It is judgement call that had to be made. Many people will agree or disagree, but I'm going to stand firm the direction we are going in partly because it is a huge amount of effort to change it and partly because if we constantly waffled in our decision making nothing would ever get done.

I was merely pointing out that there are more types of stone in the world than the image you depicted and I was preemptively defending myself against those who'd call me lazy for not listening to the wishes of the community. I'm not sure it is fair to lump you into that category so I'm sorry about that.

What the point was to make an arena with statues of different Earthrealm warriors? Shang Tsung, probably, had much time to do such things.

Ah, the Warrior Shrine. I always thought it would kind of freak out the Earth warriors that they get to this island, and there's already statues of their likenesses there waiting for them. (I don't think it would take Tsung much time either, they were probably created with magic.) This is the kind of thing that would give Tsung a psychological edge over his opponents. And of course, Goro is at the center of it all, letting you know in advance exactly what you'll be up against.

Just imagine that every 50 years when there's an MK tournament, each generation of Earth's fighters had come to this same arena and seen statues of themselves.

This background kind of has a rich story to it. Too bad it was retconned in MKSM to be part of Earthrealm (although exactly why it would be makes even less sense).

@cris berserk, as a feedback for your work:
Yeeaah, thats muuuch better.
The overall shape is correct now and looks great.
If I were nitpicking (if I were), then I'd say that you could increase the width and the lengh of the legs even further, but thats minor. Good job!:top:

Oh... interesting view. I never exactly understood - was it the tournament between a lot of different people from different realms and we know only the most famous, or it was just a small local fight between 10 characters on a lonely magical island for the destiny of all humanity? Was it highly organized cultural match, or just a bloody mess of people fighting each other (as it was in Armageddon intro)?

You could really pick apart the logic of mortal kombat all day and really get nowhere. Of course it doesn't make sense that if the statues are to intimidate the current warriors, (meaning the statues would have had to be newly created and placed there) why do they look old and cracked?

I think it comes down to, just use your imagination and accept the illogical details of the game. Like Kitana in MK2, where the hell does she keep her fans? You don't see them on her body anywhere. Or Mileena's sais. But we just accept that she has them hidden somewhere and when she pulls them out to throw, we understand she has those weapons and shouldn't even bother to question the logic because it's just a video game. Make believe. Our brains can fill in the missing details, the same way when we hear a melody being sung, our brains can fill in the chord progression or the key of the melody on it's own.

Perhaps Shang Tsung had created them years ago as he was able to see into the future and had advanced knowledge of what "the chose ones" looked like. (Or, that's what he would want the earth warriors to think, at any rate.)

It's like you said, our mind could fill in the blanks any way we want. My take on it has always been that Tsung placed them there to make the earth warriors go, "What the $#@! is a statue of me doing here?" A great way to unnerve them. Making the statues appear older than they really are would only contribute further to this.

@Bleed

Did you ever finish Raiden up for the hand off then?

@Interloko

Any updates?

E3 Update:

So getting WB's attention will probably be harder than I thought. I had a meeting setup with PR who then completely blew me off and then stopped responding to my emails. I did get interviewed by Forbes.com and I told them of our plight, but I doubt that story will be published. (I think the reporter, she was just flirting with me) So yeah, I'm open to other ideas, or we can just keep this a secret until they ultimately shut us down when the game is like 90% complete maybe sometime in 2016 at the current speed of progress.

You are probably right Le@n, but I need to know for sure. In the meantime, I hope we aren't losing steam here. Bleed hasn't checked in with an update in a few days. Arq has been busy as well. Gojira contacted me last week that he was going to finish up Kano's ending. I'll check with him again. Justin Slaughter has just about disappeared and I haven't seen MrMos3s in awhile. I'll reach out to Gojira about finishing up Kano's ending but we really badly need more animators/riggers if we are ever going to finish this.

I sent the Raiden model over for critique, but haven't seen a reply. Not sure what's up, I know he's getting ready for a wedding and has other work to do.

He wanted to do UVs, Cloth sim, and Render setup.

I started UV mapping Raiden on the 18th, but I had dental surgery yesterday, the 19th and didn't feel like doing anything...

Sorry guys I know I've been missing for a while, I come often and check the forum but I haven't been able to do anything on liu cause I'm trying to start my own business with my father and I've been busy as hell, going to the bank, signing papers, calling people, checking vehicles since I need a pick up truck and this weekend I'm going it of town with my family and I'm coming back on Sunday and finally on Monday I have to get done some work I have in my house, so I won't be able to post an update for a while.

I really want to do something on liu but I just haven't had the chance to do it, bleed I comment your rayden model, to me theres nothing to fix, in my opinion, I hope you get better soon.

But I haven't seen anything from mrmos3 and I thought he would be posting since bleed and I uploaded many renders he can work with, so sorry guys for being so busy. Regards

Hey Guys, I made some corrections suggested by you, but I'm with difficulties in applying the texture of stone that @ la Luna has indicated, to be equal to the other statues that @ calactyte did.View attachment 5463

good work, but will be better if you give the file to calactyte and he render it with the same render setting he rendered the other statues.

To keep the same lighting and shader that the other statues.
