I find this true now that I think about it.


Have we ever thought of who came up with the term "zoning"?

It was probably some ******* who just did the same move over and over and over.
He made a term for it and now all of a sudden its a legit "tactic".

Like how in the last gen fps games, screen looking was called "strategy".

I've had countless times where I'd face for example Stryker and he keeps using gunshot and bombs. Not a single combo and they call it "zoning."
 
Tom Brady. You play in tournaments to win, not to feel superior by pulling off crazy combos to please the crowd. Money is on the line, thats when gloves come off.

and if its not to prove that ur better then why call it a tournament i thought tournaments were to prove who was the best down to the last fighter. that means at least to me means u show all ur skill and put out there that if people face me they know i'm not to be messed with.

but i may be wrong i offten am wrong so it would nothing new to me.

like when i use sektor i zone only when im low on health but even then i fall back to using my mixups and pulse push. zonning is ok when its not the only thing u do.

I'm glad that most agree that therer is more you can do with Noob. SO WHAT if he's close up isn't good. Yeah I know he's slow but if you plan things right, you can do more than what ya'll call 'zoning'. Like Eks said. It's cool that he reads his opponents well, but he would've been dead if he had a teleporter
 
I hope whenever RIP chooses to play like that his ass will get whooped so hard that one day he wakes up and think "If i wanna win some cash and earn respect, i need to sharp my skills" Personally when i come across such players my anger rises and i cut then down like grown grass in my backyard. And humiliate them with best combos and Babalities (rarely happens, but it dose)

Look at 'Flow -Ermac User" though he goes with T-push over and over sometimes, he dose that with brain/skills. That is for me a real zoner. I Am almost sure that loosers like RIP in this kind of fighting style will get nowhere!

Sure it does depend on why you join the tournament, but then those are small tournaments. When people join big tournaments like Powerup Evo etc are for sponsors and the prize money. Your solely speaking on opinion now too, hence when people cry 'spamming' its opinionated. Do what you gotta do to win. If spamming enables me to win, you better believe I'd use it. Call me cheap, but at the end of the day, I'm the one walking away with the prize money and your sitting there left empty handed. I dont think you can make money off by being flashy even when you lose all the games you play.

Were you trying to quote me? I dont follow the professional tournament scene all that much, so I have no idea what you meant by the way he was acting. People call it a tournament because there are placements. Why do they give out prizes? Because thats what motivates people to win. Tournaments aren't there solely to be the 'deciding factor' on who is the best. Sometimes, even pros slip up, and the underdog manages to get the win. Does that mean they are better skill wise? Not at all, it just means the pro slipped up and the underdog did everything perfectly. He ends up with the prize. There are many deciding factors to this, not just skill, although it is a huge percentage. Either way, the Liu Kang player obviously needs more practice, because he couldn't adapt, therefore, he lost.

Talk is cheap. Its easy to be the best online when your not the one on stage playing in front of critics like this.

It's one thing to use special to control the match. Everyone who mains Sub uses the Ice Clone to hide behind and then throws Ice Balls to keep you from just waiting for the Clone to disappear, but if they actually catch you with one of these moves, they actually do a combo, so it's not just a match where they're throwing the same move the WHOLE TIME. Ermac players toss random Slams, but they also lead to combos, so it's not quite the same, either. Since none of Noob's Shado Clone moves is a combo lead-in, he's just a spam whore.

And to the people who are saying "Tournaments are to prove you're better", using such a simple move against a character that doesn't have a good way to counter it doesn't really make you better, and it certainly doesn't make you a great player. I could've easily beaten that guy (and I suck), but I wouldn't have picked Liu, either.
 
yah the liu wasn't good either but he has respect of trying to do some thing. the perfect form of zonning was that kitana v kaball match.

as for brady he got mad because he lost and threw a fit and broke his controler.

If anyone wants to see a better match against RIP's Noob, scroll to about 30 minutes in. KrayzieBone ruins him with Jade.
 
yep the guy its got shield wow no the projectile block is protected against all attacks not just projectiles

If you actually watched the match he did CHOOSE when to throw the projectile. There were moments where he paused for like a second longer to try and catch lui kang dropping his guard/hit him as he jumps/lands(From far away.) and he changed to upknee accordlingly.

Noob does not have good damage off his normal combos unless you're in a corner. So he resorts to building as much damage as he can by zoning. Once you finally get in on him then you are rewarded with being able to play against his "close" game.

Please show me a noob saibot that does a rushdown and gets that far in bracket in tournament.


@BBBLP: Lol Zoning isn't just projectiles man... back dashing to make your opponent whiff then comboing them yourself is also Zoning. You can Zone people WITHOUT projectiles. It usually involves retreating to get them to whiff a move then you punish upon coming back in.


Another note:
When you knock your opponent away or you're at mid range or farther with noob saibot... What's his safest option..? Shadow upknee(If mid and jumping) and shadow charge. You would be putting way more at risk to approach them with noob when you can make them approach you.

EDIT:
Noob is the most boring character to watch. He is unpleasing to the eye, and probably even unpleasing to play against. But that doesn't mean someone should be flashy with noob saibot, just to be different when using his ranged game works.

At tournament? Sorry but online you can run into any nooblet and flawless victory them. I've flawless victoried people doing stupid stuff. That doesn't justify it as a good idea.

I'm talking about making it that far in BRACKET at a somewhat major tournament.

Noob saibot is just simply not rewarded enough for his upclose game. He has to really outplay you to start with, then is rewarded with not so high damage % combos. Hell unless i'm in a corner against noob I don't ever use a breaker against him unless It's last round and i'm about to die.

The farthest I go is mid range. I don't like to go to the other side of the screen and "zone" by throwing an army of shadows at my opponent. Otherwise I'm close and they don't see most of his moves coming. A close shadow tackle is crazy fast. Far? Jump-able.
 
Yes I see what you're saying. but making an obstacle far away doesn't hurt especially if you can bait your opponent to do their own projectile then teleport slam them.

I use mid range game with noob against smoke, because far away smoke WILL PUNISH YOU EVERYTIME. So you have to stay kind of close. You kind of want to be mid range against smoke like the same distance you want to be when you're jade. That way you can mix in you projectiles and he has to "predict" rather than "react" to them.

I can agree noob can play a little closer, but it doesn't outweigh far away unless your fighting someone like Jade/Smoke. don't get me wrong i'm not saying noob is complete garbage up close, but he I want to say he's pretty low-mid tier when it comes to up close kombat(IMO).

His <1 although really slow on start up. has nice range. If you space yourself properly it's pretty safe.

Agreed!! I get money was on the line here. I don't think that should override the fact that using 2 moves over and over again is cheap. I don't know how big this tournament was but I think if its for good money they should have an overall rating system beyond win/lose. If a player uses a wide range of moves and combos should get ranked higher than a player who uses 2 moves. That way it would force people to become better players and not rely on being cheap.

no i ment respect as he has respect to show a little skill but yah i get what ur saying.

i dont use kang or lao any more because people abuse their moves but if u do the same with liu or lao they cry foul and call u a noobie or a scrub.

i did watch the whole thing and he still just spammed if u want to see zoning go to about 30 mins in and watch the kitana v kaball match that's how u zone not just standing there and throwing clones.
