Kotal Kahn: To Be or Not to Be

Shang Tsung rigged 10 straight tournaments, succeeding in 9 of them.

Then, along came a spider named Liu Kang who gave him that work...

Kotal isn't a cheater, though. Using magic, regardless of what kind, is fair game in Mortal Kombat. Damn near everyone has an element they use in battle. What Shang did was different, Trash.

Is their any info on what kotal khan is? Could he be from a group who died off (Aztec style) are a transformed version of another.

Perhaps his race came to the Earthrrealm at some point during the pre-columbian era and they gave the aztecs knowledge and technology, reason why they were admired by them as gods.

Or maybe I just watch too much History Channel lmao.

The only show I watch on the History Channel is the Pawn Shop show.

Cryo, you trip me out with your posts, I swear lmao Also, that storyline sounds way too much like Ogre from Tekken. I really hope Kotal's storyline is more unique, though, because the Tekken fanboys will be tearing us a new one if it isn't. I can hear them now:

"MK RIPPED OFF STREET FIGHTER WITH KOBRA AND NOW THEY ARE DOING IT AGAIN WITH ANCIENT OGRE! LONG LIVE NAMCO!!!" :alberteinstein:

I get the feeling that Kotal Kahn is just A sun god who had been appointed the task of bringing order to Outworld by the Elder Gods after they realized they should be more invested after the whole Shao Kahn fiasco.

He's most likely just a regular elemental god like Raiden.

When you mention the word "order," I get gross chills because I thought of that awful Hotaru character and the Orderrealm. I know he has his fans but gosh, he was lame to me! Anyway, though, I think Sonya and company would be more trusting of him if he were an elemental god and Raiden would have probably made that known to them. I can't imagine him being unfamiliar with such an important fact.

I thought the same as Cyro, but I hope they would not do such a simple origin story. I guess we have to wait and see, I just hope we get something unique and longstanding with Kotal. At first I was skeptic, but the more I see him in game and comic, I can't help not liking him or his personality at least.

I'm tired of the Good vs. Evil trope that plagues this franchise. This is a huge step forward and Kotal is a very interesting, seemingly grey character. I think he'll make questionable choices, side with some shady characters to get his way (much like Raiden), but would be a great leader normally. The realms are currently at war, and the sides of war are often never 100% good or evil.

I personally see him his character being either two things: sympathetic villain or a fleshed out grey character who made some questionable choices. It really depends on many things.

I see him doing what needs to be done to get his, even if it means flipping sides temporally. He will kill without remorse and so on, but will become that bad guy you can't help but like in the end. Kinda like Scorpion I guess, but he is more of a nuetral character seeking revenge even if it means siding with Shao Khan to get it.

Questionable choices? Hmm...say more? I'd love to hear what you'd view as "questionable." Would siding with Shinnok or making a deal with Quan Chi count?

I mean, we would need to see the whole picture, or have a better understanding of the story, but Raiden made many questionable choices to achieve his end goal (the death of Shao Kahn). Siding with Shinnok/Quan-chi, who clearly doesn't have Outworld's best interests in mind, would definitely be questionable. I'm thinking that he makes a more than few controversial choices for D'Vorah to betray him.

I love Raiden but am I the only one who thinks Raiden should retire as protector of the Earthrrealm? He sucks at it and I suspect he's senile too.

D'vorah betraying him? Where? This is news to me.

It's alluded to in some of the intros. We know nothing about the story, however. We could easily be mistaken and/or the intros are not canon.
