who are you like arny? and serious violance?? theyre pulling hats and fans/knifes out of thin air and teleporting through the floor, you call this serious??
bring in the frendships MK does not take itself THAT serious and never has, no babalities tho thats gay
also with the friendship you had to win without using block whicj just adds to the humiliation

+1 I agree, some friendships are really humiliating, like johnny cage's autograph or rayden's kidd thunder (even my kid can beat you) lol.

i saw an interview where Ed said if friendships were going to be in it they would be totally secret, during the interview they began talking about something else but Ed wanted to get back onto the subject because it seemed the interviewer was pretty certain there was no friendships in MK9and Ed clearly wanted to get a say in that they would be a secret and went on to say ' you know MK has always been known for secrets and rumours' its clear he wants them in it, and why not!
i know MK9 is taking itself a bit more serious this time round, but how serious can you really get when people are teleporting through the floor and pulling fans out of thin air?? i say bring the friendships back! and also make it so you have to win without using block, the friendships were humiliating to the opponent and their piss level boils twice as much when you beat them without using block then do a friendship!
hahahaha friendships were great man!

I agree.
It would be VERY aggravating to lose to someone, only to have a friendship done to you.
I say go for it.
Friendships in MK 9, seem like an apprpriate return.
After all, MK 9 IS going back to it's roots.
I just think it got rediculous when they started to do Babalities, Animalities and Hara - Kiris.

Sorry to bump up this older thread, but this an interesting conversation. Most people don't want babalities back and i agree. But it seems that many people like Friendships, yet there are a lot who hate em too. The ones that like Friendships often use the word "Friendship" and "humiliating" in one sentence. I personally have mixed feelings about Friendships, some jokes just weren't that funny, but i do see the point of it being humiliating to the opponent.
So, how about this:
NRS takes out the Friendships and puts in Humiliations (I'm sure someone else thought of that before i did, but i couldn't find this in any recent threads). They can be somewhat like Friendships, but this non-fatal action actually humiliates the victim on screen instead of doing something that doesn't make sense, like Stryker's crossingguard thing. I think a thing like that wouldn't fit in the "darker" setting of MK9.
2 examples of Humiliations:
- Jax grabs the machinegun from his back and shoots several bursts into the floor, right in front of the victim, making him/her "dance". He could also say something here, like: "Dance for me!"
- Stryker whistles and a K9 (police dog) unit, looking something like this:
walks in the screen. Stryker says: "Attack!" or "Get him/her!" It runs up to the victim and starts humping his/her leg. Stryker points and laughs.
I think a Humiliation like this could bring back the humor in MK9, but in a different way. Perhaps a dog humping someone's leg is a bit of a childish idea, but still it's humiliating and will make you laugh at the same time. Also, i couldn't think of anything better just now.

To the above post, I think that wouldn't be such a bad idea. Friendships were a little too cheesy for my liking and got pretty boring after seeing it only once. (even fatalities lose their charm after a while, but I digress) If it is both humorous yet still kept semi-serious (kind of) then I would back this idea. For another example, Cyrax could unleash one of his bombs, causing the opponent to fluster, but then it turns out to be a dud, mass hilarity ensues. Just an idea.
