Does anyone buy into this Tier BS?

I think this particular subject should be a banned topic as it stirs more arguments than abortion. There are valid arguments on both sides and I feel like whoever posts these threads just likes to see the forum community tear at itself over it. If you wanna know if tiers work look into it, test it for yourself and make your own decision based on what you learn about tiers and stop posting these threads they causing nothing but needless mud slinging

No, we need to educate as many people as possible on the tier list concept. Then and only then will they stop crying, complaining and tier whoring.

People need to understand that tier lists are a good and useful thing. But that it shouldn't dictate who you have to play.

It was an actual serious inquiry, I wasn't trying to stir the pot man. I was just saying that I myself never really bought into the whole thing and wanted to hear some opinions and logic behind tiers, and now I know how it all works and such, so thank you forum for helping me understand fully the concept of tier lists.

Most of the people who start these topics are closed-minded cry babies. I do think the OP for this thread is trying to understand them, but most people don't. Perhaps we can get a single, stickied thread dedicated to this subject?

That doesn't seem like a bad idea man, and yeah as I posted above you that's all I was trying to do is understand how it all works and stuff.

Agreed. They're useful to know match ups, but imo that's it. People should never pick their main based on tier lists. Pick on who you're comfortable with. Tier lists are player made, so they're never set in stone. It's all dependent upon the players. If you're that good and comfortable with whoever your main is, don't let a tier list shake your faith. Imho I hate em. They're ********. But I know where they can be useful.

primary role with the game was to balance it

He didn't spend too much time with Kung Lao then huh?

I don't let tier lists define who I play; I just play with who I have the most fun with. :) I do look at them though just to see how certain characters are viewed.

People who are hellbent on b------g and moaning would still do just. That being said, I think a stickied thread would be great for people like the TheWraithAwaitsU who was asking a completely legitimate question in hopes of better understanding the subject at hand. There a number of people on this forum and in this thread who are more qualified to speak on the matter of tier-lists' value and purpose than I, but I would fully support the endeavor.

This is a good point, its only for high competitive play, and even then can be deviated from by skilled players with enough foresight. Ive heard of people with championships on the line who switch to a BAD matchup purposely because of a specific strategy they can do with said character, and walk away victorious. or even use a character that is universally considered bad by the community for same reason.

I stand by... that my post is all you need to understand it lol.

It's not the end all dictator of a match winner, the player is.

It's like putting bets on football. You look at the stats and know team A based on stats have a better chance, but that doesn't completely mean Team B is hopeless.

Tier list is for stats/ making a decent judgement if you're playing to win money, that you "MIGHT" want to consider "these" characters. Or At least "know" if you play a lower character to respect the higher tier character's options.

Nothing against you but this topic is poisoned with peoples personal opinions. Very few people live in the gray area, they either believe tiers are infallible or completely hate the concept. The best thing to do is research the facts and make you own decision. For the record I'm not giving my opinion either way, but this debate isn't going to help you one way or the other

I've actually seen a couple posts here that say tier lists are useful mostly for high level players, but even then aren't the end all. They have a use, but they are set in stone etc. Sounds like a pretty good middle of the road answer to me...

It's cool. You can learn if you don't inquire.

This is how I wish everyone would react. Tier lists are a tool, and like ALL tools, they don't determine the true ability of the user. Having better tools will generally make you a better carpenter, but the human element is and always will be the biggest factor.

I think it's the people who think they're supposed to be infallible that dislike them the most, but that's because they have a gross misunderstand of their intent. The way I see it, if you don't like them, ignore them. They're not hurting you. If you really want to change them, explain why (from a logical and relevant standpoint) they're wrong. A character being your personal favorite isn't a valid reason for them being at the top of the list, either.

This.

I appreciate that anyone and everyone can have an opinion, but that doesn't mean any and every opinion is relevant. Maturely and intelligently supporting an opinion is what makes it worthwhile to those who take the time to read it. A well-supported opinion moves the discussion along, a pointlessly shouted one bogs it down.
