Controversial Things you believe in

Don't know of any contemporary instances of this, but if/when they do this, the "scientists" that do this are just as bad as Creation "scientists".

That's my point. :-)

EDIT:
As a personal example -
I find it hard to believe in global warming, given that the earth has gone through extreme heating and cooling cycles in the past (Ice Age, which supposedly killed wooly mammoths AND Meteors, which supposedly killed the dinosaurs), and global warming can't be 100% proven.
I see it as an Al Gore thing, more than anything else.

I associate an excessive display of pride with low intelligence.
Whether it's pride in race, religion, sexual orientation, or patriotism

Not saying everyone who has pride in them is dumb, but theres a point you can cross, or the way you portray
yourself with it that I think can make you look stupid. Which is alot of the time in my eyes.

I really dont give a crap if people are religious or not, as long as they are not extremist.

This isnt controversial in real life, but it seems to be controversial in this thread.

Moved all the religious debating in to the religion thread. Please try to keep it in there =) If people want to list religion as a controversial thing they believe in, that's cool, but if you want to debate it, please do it in the religion thread. Made for a great read, btw =)

But then again we can't really know if things go black if we die.
We don't really know if we are able to sense and see every single realm of possibility. I am willing to believe that humans are limited to senses that are so few, there are probably realms out there that are beyond our comprehension.

There is just so much around us and outside of us that we can't even to begin to imagine and probably never will. Arguing about it with someone is completely pointless because things can not be proven or dis-proven to a completeness.

I didn't say we did know what happens, lol. I was just saying that the thought of everything just going black doesn't appeal to a lot of people so they want to believe there is more in the afterlife as opposed to life just ending.

I don't necessarily associate that with low intelligence, but I do think an inordinate amount of pride in something like race or place of origin that we have absolutely no control over whatsoever is ****ing ridiculous.

Like, why would you march over that shit? So you're [insert ethnicity], cool, so what? Why does it even matter? Be proud of your own accomplishments, not something someone else did.

Then again, I'm the white man. The white man isn't allowed to be proud of his heritage.

I don't think a whole lot of people really know the text book definition of what racism really is. There is a fine line between prejudice and racism. Prejudice is when you have beef with a specific ethnic group or groups. Racism is the belief that your own race is superior to all others.

Just thought I'd point that out...

I'm not racist or prejudice by any means...

Then again...

I have a lot of prejudice against ignorant people and stupid people. But who doesn't?

^ If you are proud, you are racist.

MAN, DO I EVER LOVE SOCIETY

That's what's so awesome about it. If you're black and proud, cool; million man march. If you're latino and proud, cool; Cinco de Mayo.

If you're white and proud...

It's just like if we had a straight pride parade.

OH NOES, UR HOMOPHOBIC!!!!!!!11111!11

k, so does the gay pride parade = straightaphobic?

Deleted my beliefs huh

DON'T LET THE WORD BE SILENCED!
CANADIANS AREN'T REAL!!!

I also feel as if the whole United States should adopt Michigan's deal of if you've been on Welfare for more than 4 years with no job, you get 100% cut off.

I believe that every person of every race should be proud of their heritage

But you can blame organizations such as the KKK for people taking White pride for being Racist

Why should we encourage people to be proud of their race when we've been supposedly trying to create a world where we see people for who they are and not what they are, it seems very counterintuitive.

LGBT pride events are largely a movement to show solidarity and raise awareness about inequality, not about saying, 'hah, we are teh superiorz'.

10,000facepalms.

You know when you make a good point, but then you say something so ****ing stupid that you make your entire argument invalid? You just did that.

I plainly realize that it doesn't fit the context of my perceived setup as a counterpart to the million man march. It wasn't meant to be. Cinco de Mayo was simply the first thing that sprang to mind when I thought of celebrating latin culture, and I didn't care enough to think of something more fitting.

Besides, did you see that awesome KKK image? That clearly negates any theoretical errors made, and you ****ing know it.

I'm pretty sure she was only pointing out that a "straight pride" parade would be immediately seen as insensitive to homosexuals, while a gay pride parade is obviously not seen that way for heterosexuals.

Why should we encourage people to be proud of their race when we've been supposedly trying to create a world where we see people for who they are and not what they are, it seems very counterintuitive.

That's exactly how I feel about it. I wouldn't say there's anything inherently wrong with pride in one's race, but it sure as hell doesn't help perpetuate the whole idea that the color of someone's skin doesn't matter.

No, I get that. It's just not how I would have phrased it, I suppose. These 'then the opposite must apply' sort of things have as TVtropes would say, unfortunate implications.

I don't want any of those special marches or special months for certain races.
If you live in the United States, we should just have a U.S. History month, and be done with it.
Whether you migrated to this country or were born in this country, if it revolutionized American society then it should be celebrated.
Just one big month of celebrating, so that everyone can be equal and happy, and shut the f**k up.

Morgan Feedman pretty much sums up what I've been trying to get at.

On a side note:
It pisses the living shit out of me when people refer to all Hispanics as Mexican.

ON topic,

I agree with this stance.

Stop seeing things in groups. Look at them as individuals.

No being unfair to minorities.

But no giving them special privileges either.

Pete Rose has already paid his debt to society and to baseball for his crimes against the sport. Bud Selig and the Veterans Committee both need to do the right thing and reinstate him and induct him to his rightful place in Cooperstown.
