Am I the only one who doesn't like any of the new characters??

If I don't like something the most intelligent word I can come up with to describe my lack of interest is the word generic .

"Hereeeee's JOHNNY!!!!"

Commander ; wasn't Johnny Cage literally a Jean Claude Van Damme rip off? As in, he was literally supposed to be him?

Yes, he was.
He was the first MK character to be thought of, and MK1 was actually supposed to have Van Damme as a literal character in the game, but he declined to play the role because of conflict of schedule or something like that.
The majority of those characters that I mentioned are documented inspired characters based off of other media, according to NRS.
A couple (like Sub-Zero, Ketchup and Mustard) are just me giving other examples of how other characters could have been inspired from other media.

I've loved Kotal and Cassie so much that it's instilled confidence in me that NRS is going to deliver on all these characters. Even the ones that we know just exists instead of anything else like gameplay and personality and such. So Jacquie I think will be really cool and I'm sure Erron Black will be too, though I'm suspecting he'll be way zoney, so that isn't much my flavor.

I like this group, and think its pretty diverse. So I am confident that most ppl in the fanbase will easily find one or more chars from it, that appeals to them.

From the outside, im not impressed.
Once I see them in storymode, I may get a different opinion...

I'm sure there are people who don't like some of the new characters, but all? :/

Here are my thoughts on some amazing new additions to the cast:

Cassie Cage - Firstly, I thought for certain Takeda would be the leader of the group of newcomers, but to find out Cassie, the first female, is actually getting somewhat of the lead hero role is pretty fantastic. Secondly, so far, she's hilarious. Johnny is funny, but I find her humour to a mix between Johnny and satirical of our generation (Selfie fatality). They're building her up to be more than just eye candy and/or the daughter of two classic characters, giving her, what appears to be, a substantial role in the story mode (something most of the MK characters lack, sadly). Her moveset is very safe, it seems, which is why some are turned off, but I like what I see so far, and once Johnny/Sonya are retired, I think her popularity will rise even more.

Kotal Kahn - There isn't enough good things I can say about this character. Unique design, moveset, storyline and even unique character traits, which is so rare for an anti-hero/villain character in MK. He's developed to be more than a mindless villain seeking power and his motives, for once, are very clear, as is his history and relationship with many of the characters. The game is supposed to show us the rise and fall of Kotal Kahn, but I for one hope it doesn't result in his death.

D'Vorah - ZOMG no... we can't see her boobs and she's half bug :( Sexist MK fans are truly pathetic and largely why this game is still stuck in the 90s. D'Vorah is a significant step forward for the franchise, deviating from the usual overly sexualized female to satisfy the clearly sexually frustrated gamer. Her design is fresh, her moveset is unique and competitive and she plays a large role in the story. They may do more than one female character right for once.

Ferra & Torr - I'm split with this character. On one hand, it seems like they have potential (as does most of the MK roster, thanks largely to the imagination of the fans rather than the otherwise lacking writing of NRS). I love their design and moveset. However, they have the potential to fall under the "mindless lackey" role NRS seems to love so much, and if that's the case, to the left they can go.

For the remaining characters we know so little about, I can't imagine anyone having strong feelings either way. We don't know their moveset. We don't know their role in the story. Takeda seems to have a unique storyline and moveset, and that to me is exciting. Giving Scorpion an actual purpose in the story for once is always a plus for me. I'm excited. Jacqui, I mostly like for her appearance, and predicted moveset, but it's hard to have an opinion on a character we know so little about. Kung Jin looks amazing, but again, we know so little about him. Erron Black is probably the only non-Kano Black Dragon member that doesn't suck (and isn't a moveset clone) and that may have a storyline for himself, not to mention his look is fresh and not completely unappealing like the many other clan characters featured before him.

NRS has a reputation of forgettable characters (they hate like half of their own), so every single character is a huge step forward for them.

The only new characters I dont care for are Cassie and Ferra/Torr. I was never a fan of military characters or brute characters really.

How about we all wait until the game comes out and give them a shot.
Who knows?
Something crazy may happen, and some of you may end up liking those new characters. ;)

Honestly, if it wasn't for Mileena, I would probably say that D'Vorrah is my favorite female design in the game. Not a fan of bugs, dunno what her playstyle is, but the whole Exoskeleton look is actually rather awesome.

Speaking of, does she even have a skeleton for X-rays and stuff? Or did they go full on Exoskeleton with her?

If one of the 4 kids is gay, I will buy 2 copies just to show support.

Dunno why, but I feel like it would be cool and different for MK.

She has a skeleton as late as the recently-shown Johnny build.

LOL, you gotta love these kind of threads. People are crying for new kombatants for months and insulting NRS for breaking promises about MKX having more new kharacters than any MK ever before. Then they are complaining about how lame the new faces are. It's hard to please nowadays. LMFAO!

An average MK fan's dream:

- an MK with all the klassic favourites
- half of the roster should be new though (so that's a 60+ roster at release and that should be perfectly balanced)
- new kharacters must be totally different from the old ones and totally different from any other FG's kast
- no relatives
- must be a new ninja
- no palette swaps though
- Liu Kang is lame so he should be left out
- or not since he has fans too and he's a klassic
- Boss should be playable without cheap moves
- he must be hard to beat though since he's THE boss
- Boss should be a badass. It's not a problem if he's Shao Kahn but he should be new as well. Best case scenario: Shao Kahn merged with Liu Kang and he's on fire

I see quite a few contradictions with that list, particularly as it pertains to the bosses, as well as Liu Kang. I'd like to know who stands by that list in totality.

I think that's partly the point, though. You do get the impression that some people won't be totally happy no matter what, especially when it comes to the new/old character balance, ninjas, cyborgs and Liu Kang. :)

I really dont understand why people look for political correctness in a game about robot ninjas and broads with 4 arms.

The new pussification this generation is facing has become an epidemic.

I don't think political correctness means what you think it means ..I've seen you loosely use that word and I cringe when you do it .

Edit:Nvm I see what you're saying

here comes the sjw and pcgamer (not personal computer) brigade to the rescue

...wait for it...

So far, all of the new characters are pretty much my favorite characters in MKX, though Jacqui, Cassie, and Kotal may be my mains.

As a matter of fact, I'm still disappointed that Ed went back on his word about "More new characters than any other MK."
