seriously, he is not only replacing the crap characters but the good characters that were DLC potentials.

and also in an interview, this freddy is a generic freddy, boon said in an interview that he wasn't basing him off the remake or original, just in general

Emm, thats not what I said. I said I prefer Freddy over those characters in mentioned as in that I rather play as him then those characters, I didn't say we were getting him over those character because A. We don't know If they ever considerd those characters to begin with and B. I rather wait and play those charater on MK 10 then have them on this game as it would spoil the next game if don't have any new characters to play as.
 
Yeah i would personally save some mk characters for mk10, The truth doesnt "hurt" its a videogame. Even if you HATE the character, then just dont download the compatibility pack. I think that is a total douche move, but if you have to, do it. I know a lot of mk fans that have started from the beginning of the franchise that are super excited about freddy. People have to have an open mind, If he has bad gameplay then i could undertsand the complaint, but just because he isnt mk doesnt mean he cant fit into the game. IMO dont want to start anything

Oh, the Freddy character will be stupid, eh? You haven't even played him yet and it's stupid? Boy we are quick to judge.

He can't be that stupid, as according to the poll above, there are far more people going to buy him than not. If you don't like him, don't buy him. That way your game will be Freddy-free and MK pure.
 
Anyone who has seen the remake knows that this Freddy is straight out of that movie. Probably a number of reasons why that's the case.

If it's possible for NR to do though, a good idea for an alternate could be Freddy from NoES 3. It's from a brief scene in that movie where he's wearing a tuxedo and is without a hat. Not sure how that would look mixed with the head of new Freddy though, England's design would probably be necessary for it.

It's also a shame that NR didn't make use of Freddy's infamous long arms, or the Freddy snake (again from NoES 3). Since they actually put him in MK, they might as well have gone all out and thrown those things in too. Unless they couldn't for whatever reasons. But otherwise a solid effort IMO, I'm actually surprised at how well his moves turned out.

EDIT: Another choice for an alternate could be the Freddy skeleton. That'd be an easy one to do, doesn't require either actor's design, and is a throwback to the originals.

Hate to burst your bubble guys, but Freddy in MK9 wasn't Ed Boon's or NRS's choice. It was the producer (Warner Bros) that wanted to subtly promote one of their intellectual properties and upcoming movie:
A Nightmare on Elm Street 2 (2012)

Clearly a form of publicity stunt.

Fun facts: The Freddy remake has 13% on rotten tomatoes and 35% meta-critic. Making it one of the worst horror movies of the decade. But still managed to make a 73'000'000$ worldwide profit (budget of 37M$ vs 110M$ worldwide gross).

Obviously, WB is hoping the sequel will make them as much money. And I wouldn't be surprised if it did, sadly.

Please stop encouraging shitty movie remakes and sequels. As if there wasn't enough crappy movies already...
 
Lets just for a minute NOT think about Nightmare on Elm St movies and pretend that Freddy is a completely original character. From the gameplay vids we've seen, he looks really unique and interesting. Hating this character choice because he's not an MK character just seems silly and shallow. This is a fighting game, if Freddy works as a good addition from a mechanics standpoint, that's all I really want.

I actually just sold my copy of MK9...I kinda wish I didn't now that this Freddy announcement came out. I could care less about the movies or how "silly" some of you think Freddy is. Remember, we previously got a PURPLE NINJA WHO SQUIRTS WATER OUT OF HIS HANDS...is Freddy really that "silly" compared to a number of already established MK characters? No.
 
LOL I could've told you that. Like I said, If he has good gameplay I think he is cool, It doesn't matter WHY they put him in, as long as NRS makes him a good/balanced character. But I will admit it is lame of WB to do that. I am still looking forward to him, and for MK purists: This means that since This was a stunt for a new movie, Jason probably isnt going to be put in unless there is another Friday the 13th movie coming out. Food for thought

Completely agree. But, sadly the majority of retorts will be the "true mk fan" argument. *rolls eyes*

I thought the sequel to the remake got dropped? Haven't really followed up on it because it's not like its predecessor left much of an impression. People were too hard on Jackie though, I believe he did the best he could with the material. Just imagine if it wasn't even a good actor that took the role.

Anyway I don't doubt that WB saw it as an attractive business opportunity, but it sounds like Boon genuinely wanted Freddy in the game. As for people encouraging remakes and sequels, I don't see many who do, most are bluntly opposing them. And yet the studios continue to make them anyway, so it really makes no difference, we'll still get them and even see them out of interest. Saying otherwise would just be fooling yourself.

Nobody said that, at least i didnt. No he is not "silly". But he doesnt fit into MK imo, because, well he is a pretty established horror icon with its own mythology. All those mediocre crossovers need to stop (AVP, JVF) ... instead of RECYCLING existing content, cant they (movie and game industry) come up with original stuff anymore?

COME ON. I seen the trailer when the first time I saw the picture I knew two of them would be awesome DLC'S but I didn't see this coming. I was thinking the third character would be either jarek from MK4 or Fujin or maybe just even plain old Cyber-smoke, but this piece of shit. I was so godamn wrong/:(
 
I was hoping for someone like Tanya, Reiko, Li Mei or even Tremor, but instead, we get another guest character? I would have much rather had any of those four characters I mentioned. Oh well, I'm still open to trying out Freddy and downloading him.
 
Sorry people if you do like him even I do but, I didn't really know,none of us did, but I'll se if he's good to play. REAL ****ing soon.
