Kombat pack 3 official thread

consider it a misunderstanding

ah well for all the questions and wasted potential MKX story had it certantly paves the way for an even more epic story (in fighting game standards) for MK11 if some of the arcade endings are used (Like Raiden's Kotal's Ermac's) Hell even Quan chi's ending would be cool if semi made canon ( It would be even more interesting if that ending was used as a basis for an entirely new character I think it's high time the elder gods get involved by having an enigmatic agent of some kind for them)

Yes! Someone agrees with me. I'd love to parts of that ending happen. Quan Chi basically becoming the Elder God's zombie (not talking Goerge Ramero zombie).

Have his personality erased, making him more monotoned and brainwashed to do good. I don't know how that sounds to anyone else but I see that being something really cool.

It would be a great way to switch up his path in the story and keep him around. In my opinion, he is Scorpion/Sub-Zero/Raiden status, and I don't mean gameplay.

Despite what I wrote, realistically what I'll think will happen is we'll get a story pack consisting of cutscenes that were left out, aka MKX: Missing Chapters, and 2-4 additional playable story characters. But I can't help but think that MK11 (or whatever it'll be called) will in a way be underwhelming and a disappointment. Making it better than MKX and making it sell more... very very very hard. Unless you want it to feel like MKX1.5...

People said the very same thing, doubting the success of MKX, given that MK9 was a reboot of MK1 thru UMK3.

But that was different, don't you think? MK9 = reboot, MKX = sequel, MK11 = sequel sequel. MK9 = best selling game, MKX = tops MK9 in sales, MK11 = ???. With MK9 you knew what to expect, with MKX you sort of knew and with MK11 nobody has a clue - I bet even NRS don't have a clue what to do next. You can't really keep besting something forever. That just doesn't happen. Sooner or later you're going to reach a point where your product will be at the top and you won't be able to go any higher for whatever reason. MK11 doesn't have anything to add. It can bring back characters, modes and arenas and it can continue the story. But in that case... it's not really MK11, because you can do that already now with MKX. And one or two minor new additions won't change that.

I don't see how that's different.
MK can always outdo itself, and it has been shown to do so from MKvsDC to MK9 to MKX.
Given that MKX begun in what is essentially alternate MK4 and left us on a Deception cliffhanger, it wasn't expected to do so well because people are always hating on MK4 and the 3D era in general.
People always love to fap to the Trilogy era, but yet, MKX tops MK9 in sales.
As long as NRS don't do something stupid like backing themselves into another Armageddon corner, then I don't see why they can't have many more years of material and lore to build upon.

MK11 has MUCH that it can offer in story mode like (for example):
- what happens with Kitana and Liu Kang now that they are Netherrealm rulers? Do they attempt to take over other realms? Do they try to reform the NetherRealm into the NEW Edenia?
- what happens with the missing charcters like Noob Saibot (is he dead or not)?
- what happens with Kotal Kahn as the new Emperor of Outworld?
- what happens with Erron Black? We still know so little about him.
- what is in store for D'Vorah?
- will Ferra / Torr be back?
- what happened to Shang Tsung? Will he be back? Will Ermac's ending come true?
Shang Tsung is hinted at in so many endings, and maybe he'll finally be his own boss instead of being someone else's puppet this time.

MK11 can also swap out revenant characters with characters that died in MKX or are still alive but not as important.
Kabal, Enenra (aka revenant Smoke), Nightwolf, and Shang Tsung for example, can replace Mileena, Quan Chi, Shinnok or even Sonya, Johnny, and Jax if they sit out the next game.
Aside from Sub-Zero, Scorpion, Raiden, Liu Kang, Kitana and Kung Lao (according to people that complained for those to be in), the rest of the MK Trilogy roster is inter-swappable with another Trilogy character.
For the most part, you can easily swap out 1 Trilogy character for another, and it seems that people would be fine with it.
Something that I don't see NRS doing via DLC in MKX.
I REALLY don't see NRS doing a KP3, and I REALLY, REALLY don't see them doing a KP4 and KP5, just to please all of the people who didn't get their favorite characters in MKX.
Some characters will be saved for the next game, and not all of them will be in MKX, and that likely also includes Fujin, which the fans have been clamoring for.
Do you NOT remember Mortal Kombat II with one of the jumbled messages that appeared at the bottom of the screen after beating the game: CEAMR ODSE NTO EXITS (an anagram of "Ermac does not exist"), and the occasional appearance of the secret character Jade with the message "Ermac Who?"
Only for Ermac to finally appear in UMK3.
Am I the only person here who sees the "Has anyone found Fujin?" message in Cassie's "Selfie" Fatality as the new "Ermac does not exist" message of this generation of MK games?

It's happened before, too, which is what surprises me as to why it's such a big deal.
Secret coded messages for a character that will appear in a later game and half of the roster of the new game being new debut characters.
Not new.
In MKII, all of the Original 7 didn't return.
In MK3 (despite the Pesina brothers' issue), only Sub-Zero, Sonya, Kano, Liu Kang, and Shang Tsung from MK1 returned, and only Jax and Kung Lao came back.
And the crazy thing about that is that 8 of those characters in MK3 (more than half of the 15-character MK3 roster) were brand new debut characters, and people ate it up.

They should make a dlc about what happens after mkx with raiden and friends taking on liu kang and kitana. Nothing super long just a little story dlc (1-2 hours long). I'd like that.

I'll keep writing this til' my fingers hurt, but what I would definitely love to start see happening in these future games is the developers stop treating some of their characters as punching bag only characters.

That's the MAIN reason why a bunch of 3D era characters are hardly liked by many. It's tiresome to see that over a character that should have been in a game, that's been demanded to be included via DLC, and turned out to be left out for reasons left unclear. I'd like to see a character, such as Ferra/Torr, get a chance to become something better than a monster character for one chapter only for future games.

Put more effort to make Frost different than Sub-Zero, it's not THAT hard to have two ice wielding characters. Li Mei was a fan favorite, let's see her return and not have her fall in love with some stupid dragon that was hardly a threat to begin with. I never had a problem with Drahmin either.

And what's funny is that popularity had nothing to do with him not being included in future games, it's the fact that the animators were too lazy to work on him because his character design was too "complex." That he was too much of a lop-sided character and his club was too much of a problem. THAT is a stupid excuse to make as to why a character can't be in the game. Obviously Motaro should get a chance to come back seeing how we have a tailed-Xenomorph being added.

I never worked on modeling faces because I never had a chance to get a class on modeling in an animation program at school, yet I managed to work my butt off to get a face. I'm currently working on ears, which in my opinion is FVCKING DIFFICULT to nail but I'm still working at it. Laziness should not be an excuse anymore now that we have phenomenal animation programs that can get the job done.

End of rant. -_-

Sadly, though, even some of the Trilogy era punchingbag characters suffer from this development hell.

Look at Baraka in MKX.
I don't care for the character, but that's because NRS never gave me a reason to care for him, so what's the next best thing that they could do for him? Let's have him be an Alien host body.
This way they can give Baraka / Alien 3 variations, as Baraka also likely had very little moves to be spread across 3 variations.

if there is one thing i realize i want more than anything else for MK is for it to follow a dlc pattern akin to a MOBA and be supported as long as possible

and i don't even want it to compete with SF in that regards i want it to be it's own beast for those who like playing multiple different fighters but the 50/50s and shitty online gotta go

hell it wouldn't even kill them to do online betas to stress test the netcode and work from there

As much as I'm disappointed that Fujin didn't make the main roster or as DLC, at this point they should just save him for the main hero role in MK11.
I'd rather have a well made Fujin in a proper game than NRS just bending to pressure and giving us a half-assed character, due to the fans being pissed.

The same I want to say about Sareena, Li Mei, and Nitara.

But for Sindel, I think she and Rain should just be added in Kombat Pack 2 since they have movesets for story mode already. I think their movesets should be very similar to MK9 but just add more moves for certain variations. Just those 2 or at least 1 more female as DLC so I can have a total of 4 main characters in MKX. After Kombat Pack 2, I think that'd be enough if at least 1 more character of mine is added.

My 3 mains:
1. Kitana
2. Mileena
3. Tanya
4. Please let it be another female that we will get as DLC.

I agree with stages and story mode.
MK9 had 25 stages and MKX currently has 13 (14 with The Pit coming as DLC).
Kinda feels lacking in MKX, imo.
As for story, while I agree that the story felt a bit short, I wouldn't have minded the story being that short it it had been better fleshed out.
MKX story gave us more questions than it answered.
Hopefully with Tri-Borg being in we'll finally get an answer as to what happened to Cyrax, even though individual character ladder endings are not really canon until the next game comes out and they either are proven true or false.

As for the roster count, I disagree.
MK9 had a starting roster of 27 characters (28 on PS3, which includes Kratos, Quan Chi and Cyber Sub-Zero), and MKX has a starting roster of 24 (technically 25 if you count the Goro pre-order), which isn't too far off from MK9.
With DLC, MK9 ended up having 32 total characters and with DLC MKX will end up having a total of 33 characters.

As for roster choice of characters, that's subjective.
I, personally, thought that MKX had too many Trilogy characters on the main starting roster (14 of the 25).
Given that MKX is essentially alternate MK4, skipped Deadly Alliance and ended on alternate Deception, I would have preferred more characters like Fujin, Bo Rai Cho, and Havik on the main roster, but we're at least getting Bo Rai cho as DLC.

when it comes to stages, I don't even count the training ground. that's just a rip off -.- I mean, it was cool to be able to use it to practice with all interactibles into account for every stage, but I don't count it as a stage per se. MKX surely lacked arenas

for the roster count, what pissed me off is how Boon himself spoke of 'thirty something' characters without ever clarifying what he meant (incl. DLC). also, they kept saying that god damn 'the select screen is not final' in every stream to salvage whatever was left for anyone that kept a shred of hope that the leaked roster was not entirely accurate. so yeah if we put all things down together, the launch roster had minus two characters, not counting Kratos but counting Goro respectively for MKX. the point is, a lot of people felt like the roster would have been so much better by including Fujin & one other NPC, my personal preference obviously being Rain. and it's true, it'd be two more characters, one with the power of wind and the other of water and lightning strikes. hell, even if it weren't Rain, I'd be surely much more pleased to see them keep their promise of a 'comparable if not bigger roster' than mk9

as for the choices, I'm all for new as long as they're characters full of creativity, characters that can attract the crowd and not generic BS like we had before (hi kobra). personally, I hated ferra torr only, I find torr to be generic looking and ferra is just a kid. the design is hideous imho. other than that, D'Vorah is fitting but I am kinda indifferent towards her because of the disgusting bugs thing but she IS well designed. Black, Kotal, Cassie and Kung Jin were my favourites. Jacqui, I didn't hate on her before seeing her and she knows how to throw a punch but meh, and I didn't like Takeda's costume, it felt generic, but the moves (whips and whatnot) were original and nice. overall, if I had the power to change the newbies, I'd keep the four I loved and d'vorah, find something else for Takeda to wear, scratch ferra torr off the face of the earth and probably jacqui too. also would change kung jin's origins, would only keep Cassie as a daughter to Cage and Sonya. like I said, they have proved they are creative, I don't see why the best they could come up with was Teen Titans MK style. there are so many brand new characters they could introduce of all ages, they didn't have to be relatives. e.g. have a Norseman fighter, give him some background story and make him hulky, not as hulky as zangief from SF, something less than that and give him some norse characteristics. have ferra torr replaced by a Sorceress with smoke and mirrors tricks, deception, stuff like that. have a new monster hulky creature thing with two heads or some shit. there is endless potential of things they could come up with it. as for the post mk3 choices lacking, I guess I can kind of justify them on some level because 8 slots were dedicated to brand new characters so going with familiar faces for the rest of the case made sense I guess, but still, they should have had faith in what they can do, they got fat cash thrown at them right now, times have changed, clearly they weren't gonna make a lame looking/fighting Fujin if they wanted to. some atrocities should never come back, such as kobra, but there is a lot of good material to use post mk3 and they only risked that through DLC

I agree that the kids are all pretty bland, and I think it is disappointing that MKX doesn't have a single representative from either Chaosrealm or Orderrealm. That would have been nice in terms of something a bit different, as (outside of the comics) we've not seen anything from those realms for a while.

Essentially, NRS came up with the most mundane story and cast possible. I like Kotal, Erron, F/T and D'Vorah, and I don't mind Kung Jin, but Takeda and Jacqui are awful. Cassie was fairly predictable. So ****ing sugar-coated and 'packaged' if you know what I mean. I sort of get it, but I really dislike it. NRS have definitely lost their balls when it comes to character design -- these guys are certainly designed by committee.

I do like Kotal, though. I hope they develop him over the series.

If you don't count the MKX Training Room, then you can't count the MK9 Training Dojo.
Either way, my opinion on that point still stands, and as you said "MKX surely lacked arenas."

I got a friend that has a friend that knows someone that works for NRS and he said he got info on the four top choices for kp3.

Pinhead,Chucky(5'8" tall for balance porpuses),Spawn withouth cloak and stryker!!!

Oh man, can't wait!!!

Is this supposed to be funny? Cus I would jizz loads if Stryker were in, js.

Ed Boon already said that DLC story would be too much to make. They are off making a brand new game instead.

I think they should make a story DLC addressing short episodes inside the story.

Let's just take as an exemple, Sareena, Bo Rai Cho and Fujin.

All of the three participate in the story and their sudden inclusion in it could open for a side tale.

Fujin's part in the Netherrealm (even mentioned by Liu Kang, but didn't make the cut) is something that could be added, for exemple.

So instead of just giving the character, they could give a short mission.

After seeing how Goro was added in Kombat Pack 2, here is how I'd like KP3 to go...

Sareena
Li Mei
Fujin
Rain
Sindel

Then they can move on for the next game with Nitara and Jade for MK11 if they are unable to be added in MKX. The total number of DLC characters should be an even number.

Rain and Sindel are just added from the Story Mode movesets with added variations.

If this were to happen, it'd be a total of 14 DLC characters...

KP1:
1. Jason
2. Tanya
3. Predator
4. Tremor

KP2:
5. Leather Face
6. Bo Rai Cho
7. Tri Borg
8. Alien
9. Goro

KP3:
10. Li Mei
11. Sareena
12. Fujin
13. Sindel
14. Rain

I seriously doubt that KP3 will even happen.
After KP2, I have a feeling they're moving on to the next game / project (which they've probably already started by now), and rightfully so.
8 DLC characters is a HUGE step up from MK9, and it's a bit of a step up from Injustice.
The most that I could see NRS doing after KP2 is maybe 1 or 2 characters or 1 more arena, but even then I doubt getting 1 or 2 more characters after KP2.
I don't think that they're going to drag out MKX with DLC like the devs did with Rock Band.
Some characters will be saved for the next game.

We all know it won't happen. I doubt there is a chance, even if the KP2 sell like hot cakes!

There will be no KP3 and I'm pretty sure about that, because brand new game is much better option for WB to make money than keep on doing DLC's.

Partly it is because HC crowd that will keep playing is much more smaller than for instance in Street Fighter or Tekken (that also share good amount of casual love). The same goes for local and competetive scene that is small, uninteresting to watch it will not evolve well. Some reasons are:

- Casuals that will buy the game for party-use or because of just fatalities and blood are the ones that make most profit. They are more unwilling to buy any of DLC.

- Reason above doesn't help competetive scene that is small and uninteresting (for instance Japan and rest of the Asia don't give a crap). Players have also been unable to create proper meta / tech. Also, if looked to the past, MK9 wasn't popular in tournaments and it was dropped right away and never touched again, unlike for instance Super Turbo or 3rd Strike (and probably USFIV) in Street Fighter series that are still played today in the scene.

- MKX's DLC business model is outdated. In the era of F2P games and ability to gring, for instance SFV will offer customer option to either unlock DLC characters and stages via in-game money that can be earned by playing, instead of just paying for it. MKX on the other hand, just charges decent amount of money for couple of characters.

-WB. The company has been extremely bad with its products and especially on PC that got disaster ports like MKX and Arkham City. PC's playerbase is extremely low due to awful support and launch and therefore DLC will not interest many people. New game with advertised improvements and maybe even apologizy would do a lot.

Therefore I believe it's just a new game they are developing.
