Becoming a more competitive TRMK?

Jesus, I wasn't expecting that type of response from you.

¬¬

You're right though, and I will try my best to make a video and elaborate on why Competitive play is fun and good for the forum. We did have a "Competitive section" during MK9 "The Character Gameplay Section" and people actively posted in it, but as the numbers went down and competitive players gave this place a bad name *Cough* Tom Brady.. Then people move on to TYM.

This was more of a way to throw out ideas to make the site more competitive, I wasn't expecting everyone to just hop on ship within 30 minutes . Guess I'll work on the video tomorrow then after work, thank you for the post because I now know where to start.

Explaining why competitive play would be the first step. If anything you can even try to speak to staff, to get your thread pinned in a specific section (not sure where) to attract the most attention. I don't see why they wouldn't be okay with it because if anything, your efforts will bring in more traffic to the website, leading to more ad revenue and such for the site owners's benefits, and just overall increasing the reputation of TRMK.

Well, as said, I'm not the competitive type, nor am I very good at fighting games. But I will do my best. ^^

That's all I'm asking for lol, just giving it a try and see where it goes from there. In reality it's not that easy though, it'll take time to become good but I'll explain all of that stuff later in a video. I tried to make this one short to keep everyone's attention, but the next one will be longer.

This will die out too...

People round here are too casual...and will eventually do what casuals do...
And not enough people round here are competitive...and if they are, most probably wouldn't come HERE to talk about all that stuff when there are probably sites DEVOTED to competitive MK play out there.

i kind of agree, it's not really the crowd that comes to this forum. But it doesnt hurt to try, right?
perhaps once started, it'll spark some interest.

Honestly, I think so too. It wouldn't hurt to try and see how long it lasts.

Even if we play Online tournaments the entire time of the games Life cycle Post-DLC I would be content because there's still something to talk about until more news arrives on Injustice 2 or MK11,

It does not hurt to try it...
but don't get ur hopes up for it with this crowd. Expect the worse, hope for the best. Avoid disappointment everytime.

Online Tourneys are fine, but lag will make it an issue if u can't become 'Namor'...

I have a question then...

If the TYM forum is more focused on competitive play, then why be on this forum if you want to play MK competitively?

And please don't get me wrong, I'm not telling anyone to leave. I am just wondering.

I would like to participate. I feel that I'm on a level where I easily beat casuals but I'm not good enough to fight higher ranked players.

Well, you can´t get competitive players if your game´s gameplay is flaweed.
we are on 2015 and there is not a projectile collision system yet?
all the character roster has projectile attacks, including characters who don´t need it(Baraka, Cage, Jax for example). It´s ok that certain characters have projectlie and long range attacks, but there should be characters with mid and close range attacks.

This isn't Street Fighter, this is MK. If you want all the gameplay features you just asked for, then go play Street Fighter and don't ever come back to MK.

The egos there... Well they're there. Still a fun forum, but not nearly as fun as it is here with my lovers <3

I have indeed noticed how alot of competitive players have rather inflated egos. But it's the same within the world of sports. It's the whole "I'm better than you" attitude... one of the reasons I'm not playing competitively... well that, and I suck at gaming. XD

I'm on most of the forums, and it's for the simple fact that I love discussing MK. I also love playing the game competitively, it's the best of both worlds. I love talking lore/story/characters with people, but sometimes I can't get that on TYM, so I post with you guys about that stuff on here or MKO.

Lets go.

I only fought just a few folks on here. Gotta say, I expected more challengers and Tourneys from TRMK.

No one said any of you have to be good. Hell, throw a punch at me jeez. Liven it up lets all fight to the damn blood-induced death.

I try very hard to be on the level of a competitive player. I find myself between a high level casual and mediocre competitive player.

What things would make me a better player?

Learn new setups, practice execution and play people on your level or better. After matches, figure out the mistakes you've made, go in the lab and rectify them.

Adapting will make you a better player, IMO.

Learning long ass combos makes you a better combo master, not a better player...
Learning how to zone makes you a better zoner, not a better player...

Im not a zoner, nor a combo master(the maximum combo hit u'll see me do is no more than 10, without an xray assist), but ive beaten PLENTY of good combo masters and zoners in my time in MK9...by learning, adapting, then overcoming.

Being able to Adapt to ANY situation in a fight and then overcome it, IMO makes you a better player/fighter. This is also what Bruce Lee preached on. Jeet Kune Do is an adapting "style", it is formless like water...thats what u need to be.

Some people crumble when faced with a zoning style, or a combo master or whatever else. Learn the weaknesses of them by facing them, adapt to them by training and mastering your main's BASIC skills, practice ur execution and timing, practice BLOCKING! lol, Learn to anticipate, and expect the unexpected. Then strategically use what you've learned! and OVERCOME them!

FOCUS! Your mind has to be just as ready as ur game skills.

You can learn all these things by getting Online to learn what skills people have to offer which EACH character they use!!, learn the weaknesses while ur fighting, go into Practice mode, use the SHIT OUT THAT Dummy!! master your basics (moves, special moves, 3 hit combos, etc) then go to more complex things like long chain combos, etc, if u want, But DO NOT make urself predictable!!

'I fear not the man who has practiced 10,000 kicks, but I fear the man who has practiced ONE kick 10,000 times..."

MASTER ur basics!

Once you get online, APPLY what you've learned,

Game Patches can limit or heighten things, so that can be an advantage to ur side. What will also help is that, the more ur online, youll start to see that people are doing the same techniques...and become predictable. "Billy Jim had the same combo string that Sally sue had...so now I know what to expect".

Their system becomes broken because it is no longer effective against you. Their forms have been overcome by something thats formless, limitless...like water.

This is potentially what learning how to 'Adapt' can get you. And if you practice this mindset and way of fighting, even in games, IMO, u will have the potential beat ANYBODY! Even the pro fighters!

I'd like to play more, and would like to try to play competitively, but I lose interest. I've sat in a lobby for an hour without being challenged or having a challenge get accepted the last two days I've gotten on.

The matches that I do get to play aren't fun. I can adapt to the other player's strategy but it's the same thing. Low block because they picked a character that can teleport constantly, uppercut them after they missed uppercutting me, try to get a combo in or two despite it always fails because they jump backwards, dash to them/slide, repeat.

Adapting to the other player's strategy isn't hard, it's just boring when it becomes the same old same old.

From 2012-2014 that was all MK9 online was for me...boring.

Everybody became predictable, and the GOOD ones didnt want to waste anymore time on u after they beat u twice...

But playing Street Fighter or Tekken online on the other hand..........I ALWAYS had fun!
