[SPOILER] Everything about story mode. Pics, videos, discussion, etc.

I'm just confused as hell..
Alright, so basically,

Tanya is the ambassador of the rebellion army, and defeats Cassie Cage, and Saves Kano's life, and is not on the roster.
Kung Lao shows up as a zombie 2 times and is on the roster.

yeah weird how Kung Lao made the roster. Rain or Baraka should have taken his spot.

Nothing makes sense to me anymore. So basically Kung Lao, Kitana, Liu Kang, everyone in MK9 who died is still dead? Their primaries are literally just costumes?

It seems NRS just wanted people to think they were restored and played a role in the story so fans wouldn't complain before the game was out (therefore, before they bought the game).

Personally I'm glad story doesn't completely dictate the roster. Gameplay >>> story. I'd rather have Reptile than Baraka, Kitana than Tanya, etc.

See, but this was never a question of rather having X instead of Y! If you include someone in the game, at least give that character a meaning to be there. This is not Street Fighter. Mortal Kombat did become more story-driven and it has been breaking the boundaries of what a fighting game is. All I am saying is, there was no reason Tanya not being in the roster other than they either didn't have the time to finish her (because they were invested in someone else) or simply she wasn't that popular. Especially when you actually FIGHT Tanya and Rain twice in the story-mode.

They played safe and that disappointed me a lot. They can still redeem themselves with DLC, but I am not that hopeful.

Kung Lao/Kitana/Liu Kang primary costumes are basically what if? scenarios. I don't see the problem, especially since people would complain if Kitana's primary was her zombie form, for example.

Story importance is not the only factor that decides roster inclusion. Shaun Himmerick said this on Twitter. NRS favoritism, fan popularity and gameplay/variation potential also come into it.

Kind of saw 'NRS favoritism' come into play in a heartbeat. I have a feeling people like Ermac will be back again in the next game with literally no story importance again.

Kung Lao shows up as a zombie 2 times, in a tarkatan flashback, and is on the roster.

Rain is the general of the rebellion army beside Tanya, kicks Kotal Kahn off the roof, saves Mileena from being killed by kotal, and tries to teach Mileena how to lead, and is not on the roster.
Kitana shows up as a zombie once, and then is shown again in the ending, and is on the roster.

I guess NRS really only put the most known characters on the roster for the casuals, huh?

I am indeed disappointed about Tanya and Rain not being on the main roster, but glad Tanya will be DLC at least.
They are both so awesome in Story Mode! And I love that they teamed up! Always wanted that. ^^

I'm just glad Tanya contributes to story again in the new timeline.
Hard to think that without Tanya's assistance, Kano's throat would have been slit.

I know, it just confuses me. Why would they put people who contribute more story in as NPCs, but keep people who literally contribute nothing the main spots.
Reptile is in the story, he's not important to it.
Ermac literally has 2 lines in the story and 2 fights, and has a main spot.
I think you fight Sindel more than some of the people on the roster.

Also, they seemed to have wanted to free Edenia? At least, Tanya... I am glad someone actually remembers that Edenia exists, I just find very awkward it's Tanya who's fighting for that.

It was obviously 'NRS favortism'.
Also it's 'strange' how there are Sub-Zero and Jax getting back to life, but not Kabal and Sindel, right?

No, that actually makes sense, that's described in Sonya's chapter.

Whoever said that, was tainted information.
Kotal and Tanya have charred history. Kotal and her had quite a bit of dialogue in chapter 2.
She said Mileena promised her a 'Free edenian life', not a free edenia.

Jax was needed for Jacqui. Sub is Sub.

NRS favoritism will always play a part. But it's not like they completely ignore those who want minor characters. Tanya has a story role and is DLC, for example.

I agree, and I wouldn't have it any other way. I wouldn't like to see Reptile go since he's one of my favourite characters even though he's useless to the story.
However, it's just the way it was done. Everything was targeted to make people think Liu Kang, Kung Lao and Kitana were back and probably played a role in the story. The trailers ("where have you been, Kung Lao?"), the revamped appearances (they even made them look older just like Johnny Cage and Sonya).
And what upsets me more is how Rain and Fujin weren't given a chance to shine even though they did play a role in the story. Same with Tanya, but at least we're getting her as DLC.

Just my opinion.

All this.

So did anyone notice that the Baraka/Mileena/D'Vorah/Kotal flashback said 'five years earlier'? That conflicts with the comic, if that is indeed what it said. Canon might be even more stupid now.

I'm so confused, and I guess it's my own fault because I'm refusing to watch the video's/streams and just reading the spoilers to keep a little bit of a surprise for when I get the game. But am I right to believe that Tanya plays a bigger part in the story than some people who are on the main roster, yet she's only DLC? Also it sounds like D'vorah is the 'Tanya' of this game? So if D'vorah was never created, Tanya but be kicking some serious ass in MK X?

And what do you take by "free[ing] Edenian life"?

No but in all seriousness, Coulda swore she said 'Free Edenian Life'
And I take it as if someone was to say the same as a free american life, or a free russian life.
Someone who can do what they want and have no rules, and not having to pay consequences.
The classic tanya.

Sure.
Tanya plays a bigger part in the story than over half the roster, and that's sad considering she's DLC. Lol.
