What Grinds your Gears, part 2

My basic point is to not let what other people say or do affect you. That's why they do it. They want it to wear you down, break your spirit, lower your self-esteem. That is the real crime of hazing and harassing people. That's what causes some LGBT people to commit suicide or to go back into the closet. But being yourself isn't easy, and nobody should expect it to. Never expect anyone to just accept you for who you are. You've got to make your stand by being above that, by being yourself without that fear. You can't let what others say or do in regards to you define how you feel. No, it isn't easy. But it's the only way to live with yourself. This applies equally to someone who's LGBTQ or of a minority race in a different society, whatever. Being different is difficult, but the goal is to show people that you aren't what they expect of you.

I do 6 of those. And there are only 4.

Ouch! Put it in cool (not cold) water, use sterile gauze bandage, and take prescribed pain reliever if there is pain. If there is oozing, Also, talk to your dr.

Never use ice on it and don't mess with the blister.

If any oozing, swelling/redness, and/or fever get medical help/ tell your dr. because it may be infection.

Yeah well... the blister opened when i washed my hands last week so now it's raw and open... it's oozing a tiny bit, and I am using nonstick pads and that wrap that sticks to itself to wrap it up. I kinda have an idea how to wrap it up cuz I had a worse second degree burn on my other hand a few years ago. I really don't want to go to the doc for it so I am trying to take care of it on my own and taking Advil for the pain.

Thank you, Nasty, for the advice. It's nice to know someone cares and has an idea of what to do.

In other news, it pisses me off when people call here looking for Alice's Cafe & Lounge... we've had this number for 9 years... seriously, STOP CALLING!

Well, I guess that would be ok too. But if worse comes to worse, get your primary physician. He should know what to do. Anyways, take care and talk to you again. ;-)

I think I finally got my Mom to quit smoking. She asked what I wanted for my birthday, I told her to quit smoking. She's been really cranky but she will get over it in time. Hopefully she sticks with it.

I never smoked cigarettes, I don't see why people start in the first place. Other than peer pressure and wanting to be "cool."

Well, I'm pretty damn cool without cigarettes.

That "It relieves stress" thing they talk about.

I don't think it exists. I've smoked when I was REALLY stressed once. just to see if it really works.

It didn't do crap for me.

I think that "relief" they feel when they smoke is just them feeding their addiction lol. And they are less stressed out because their addiction has been fed.

I started smoking at 13... I stole a couple of cigs from my uncle... and then since I lived in Saudi, I could buy them myself.

It exists but only for smokers... the nicotene actually in general raises your stress level... so when you get another hit of nicotene after it's been a while, your body feels relief from the physical craving which makes you feel less stressed. If this confuses you, ask LC. He explains it better than I do.

There are many ways to relieve stress without cigarettes, so if that is their excuse then they need to re-evaluate themselves.

You make a very good point. And because that makes sense to me... it only says that I really should be quitting... even though the headaches from withdrawl are horrendous. So who wants to keep me honest and cig free? (LC can't cuz if I buy them, he smokes too... LOL!) I need a non smoker to be my qutting buddy who can keep telling me the reasons that I shouldn't smoke.

And to get back to the topic of the thread...

90+ degree weather in the last week of September... seriously??? UGH!

Yeah so you proved my point exactly thanks.

That stress never would've existed if it wasn't for the addiction in the first place.

Therefore you "relief os stress" by smoking...

is caused by smoking...

redundant cycle is redundant.

EXACTLY!!! AT least you understood what I was saying... lol!

Not quite. It has less to do with addiction and everything to do with the neurochemical reaction of nicotine with the brain. Nicotine, when taken into the bloodstream by being inhaled, has a fast acting effect that causes one to feel like they can think clearer and with more precision, in many ways similar to caffeine. Some scientists think it triggers receptors in the brain that produce dopamine (the 'satisfaction' neurotransmitter). So there's a very real effect. If I had to hazard a guess as to why some people never really develop the smoking habit or enjoy it, it might be because of a genetic intolerance (think how some people think Cilantro tastes like soap--it has everything to do with a particular gene).

Combine that with the ritual of secluding one's self for the few minutes it takes to light up, and you have a powerful stress reducer.

Yeah here's why:

Reading it in fanfiction or just hearing it in general bugs me.

"Is that the best you got?" "You can't stop me!" "Alright let's party!"
No creativity whatsoever. Make it sound as if you wrote it and try to make it out obvious that you've been watching too many movies.

The only time you should use cliches is if you're making fun of them in my book.
That's just me

Lol, I feel the same exact way.

I also hate listening to people's at school writing and their grammar is horrid, I want to punch them in the face for not proof reading and editing.
