What are you listening to?

Old skewl.

oh man. this album kicks ass. This was when Korn was heavy. The first album sounded raw, nice heavy guitar tone, vocals were heavy too. Now they are a total joke. I like to call them PopKorn now.

It's sad, I would have liked them to continue with this style, but they ditched it and turned into pussies. Vocals got really whiney. and they eventually spawed more wigger shit like limp bizkit and papa roach.

oh well, the first album is all I need to enjoy them. Heres my favorite korn song

Listening to some Bob Dylan's The Man in Me during the intro of The Big Lebowski which I am just watching on Blu-ray. What a great song.

And yes I have a White Russian in hand.

Their first album was a complete masterpiece. The second was great, but wasn'tas aggressive, the 3rd got very experimental and out there, the 4th was like the 3rd expect heavier. But then the 5th album came out and brought back the aggresive tone and real heavy sound. The 6th was similar, but IMO not as good.

Everything after that was extremely experimental and mainstream. Korn was an entirely different band from then on. Not to mention their lead guitarist and drummer left, which really dilluted their sound.

But to be honest, each album they made was pretty good. The newer ones are nothing compared to the originals, but compared to other music, they aren't that bad. At least I think so.

As for that first album though, we cannot have a discussion of it and leave out this song.
(Song starts at :45)

well, I'll admit, the 2nd album (Life is Peachy) had some great tracks on there. The music itself sounded even heavier than the first, but the vocals got weaker. In certain parts of the songs, Jonathan davis would just whisper while a bass line would play and it was annoying to me.

But then it would kick into this really heavy riff and his vocals would get heavy again. Life is peachy had a creepy ass atmosphere to it. Its almost a really great album, but the song structures are all pretty much the same thing over and over again in every song. Still, they are pretty good songs, and to me its their last good album.

good example, starts out kickass, gets weak in some places, then gets awesome again

Couldn't have said it better myself. I admit I really enjoyed See You On The Other Side and this has become my favorite Korn song by far now...

I have yet to hear that new album that was released last year? Was that the one with Evolution or something? Or was there another album after that?

Yes - the new Korn "Remember Who You Are" is actually quite good in my opinion and I'm a huge Korn fan. I have all their albums and have seen them live many times.

They named the new album "Korn 3" as they saw it as their true 3rd album after Life is Peachy. Don't get me wrong, it doesn't top the original Korn and Life is Peachy (what will?) but it's damn good and MUCH MORE like their old stuff than the recent offerings. It's raw and angry.

Check it out for sure. Even the cover of the album gets back to the old creepiness. Here is one of my favorites from the new album I listen to all the time. I especially love the voice overs near the end of the song of his normal scream with the angrier scream behind it just like their older stuff:
