What do you don't like about the game?

Did someone seriously just say they wanted 3D back? Ew, go away.

Also, I love the new 'variations' feature. I think it adds a lot of diversity, instead of a character having just one specialty (e.g. rushdown, zoning), they have 3 different variations for different playstyles, situations or matchups. I think that's really cool.

I don't see why all the hate on 3D era gameplay. I do prefer playing 2D style, but I really do not hate that times.

I think all were different. 3D era, and I'm talking about MK:DA-MK:A (because Mk4 you could easily play without step in and out).

On that times, it was not the offensive style. It was very pleasing to see the characters fighting actual fighting styles moves, and you needed to study your opponent and use the field.

Well, guess I'm lucky to love both styles!

marketing catering purely towards casuals = disrespect.

Casuals are the main target audience. Marketing mainly purely towards them is the biggest money maker. Casual MK fans are not as hardcore into the MK mythology as we are. Hardcore fans like us are niche and NRS & WB won't make as much money if they market towards to the hardcore fans.

If they were marketing purely towards the casuals we wouldn't have a comic series, Kollector's editions or gameplay streams.

You don't need to tell me that. I got a degree in marketing. But it still irritates the living phuck outta me...

Would it really hurt to at least once in a while do something only longterm diehard fans could appreciate? At least for this game? So far it has been marketed like crap...

They are marketing purely towards the casuals. But maybe you don't see it, because it isn't that obvious. Just because we are getting those things doesn't mean they aren't aimed at the masses. The Kollector's Editions are all aimed at them. Just look at the content. Do you see anything else than Scorpion? Scorpion is mainstream. They want to sell. Steel case? Steel card? Pathetic and of no use. Vol. 1 of the comic book? Again casuals, promoting the comic book and trying to get more money out of it. Comic books are mainstream. Everything these days has an adaptation like this just to tie in and sell more. If it was aimed at us, there would have been an artbook instead. That is a worthy collector's item. But a comic book you can normally buy? Wake up. And that DLC pack/Season Pass stuff? Guest characters = casuals. You can bet they'll pick characters that will sell crazy. If they will fit into the MK world... who cares, right? And classic kombatants? Hm... Who could those be? The living dead? Nostalgia overload. Characters that will sell and didn't make it into the main roster. If they fit... again... who cares, right? And gameplay streams? Please. They make it look like they are doing us a favor. Nonsense. They need those streams, because frankly their marketing sucks big time. They need to compensate somehow for the lack of reveals and trailers, so they pack it all into a stream. But what does the stream show? Gameplay. Nothing only we could appreciate... again. Not even in discussion. Just normal expected stuff. And no new characters... still... smh... no comment.

Look, I'm not blaming them. I get where they're coming from. But at the same time a lot of the choices they made were poor and they definitely can do better than what they've shown with WB behind their back.

All that stuff looks nice, but when you look into it... they are marketing this game towards casuals 100%. And that insults me, because at E3 they promised something else. Not to mention how poorly they are treating all the ports. Least they could do is acknowledge their mistakes and either defend them or apologize. Even Ubisoft did that and they harmed the industry tenfold. But I guess the Warner Brothers make Ed feel really special.

Well rest easy knowing that you're wrong. Because the reception of the game so far has been massively positive. The marketing was shitty the last 3 months of 2014, but they kicked it into high gear this year. You cannot say they have shitty marketing when their game is showing up on Conan O'Brian while having the two most relevant NFL players (at the time) play it. That makes no sense whatsoever.

Casual fans are loving it, hardcore fans are loving and hell, even people who hate Mortal Kombat are loving it. Dudes on SRK treat Mortal Kombat like it's the plague. But many of them are turning around and giving it props with all of the changes they're making. So NRS is doing something right. You seem to be the only person who doesn't think so.

And why would they show off the lesser ports? They want this game to look as good as possible, they don't want people to see the retarded step-brother to the crisp clean Next Gen version.

I love this game !! For the moment, the only thing i don't like is the return of too much characters from MK9 !

I"d like more characters form MK4-MKA, or NEW characters (from the comics, from exemple...)

But for the rest, MKX seems perfect for me !!

Well, you need to go back to school for something else.

You never market to a niche audience. Marketing is about reaching the broadest possible audience. The diehards are the ones you count on buying the product whether they ever see an advertisement for it or not.

And people can cry about the ports all they want. But right now we are approaching 40 million units between Xbox One and PS4 worldwide. The world was ready for new systems and the sales are proving that. If you want to cling to a 8-9 year old box, go right ahead, but they arent in the wrong for moving on with technology. MK9 sold a total of about 4 million units. Sorry, but the install base is already large enough that they didn't need to worry about last gen systems. I for one am glad they decided to make that decision because the final product is going to be better because of it.

Their marketing right now is the exact opposite of sucking. You are just upset because they aren't pandering to you. They are going to sell millions upon millions of copies of the game. Warner Brothers multi-billion dollar business knows marketing better than you.

I am well aware of that, thank you.

I am also aware of next-gen success. Thank you, again. But just to clarify in this regard... USA =/= rest of the world.

Yes, they may be doing it "right", minus the 3 month gap and changing strategy, but as I said in the other thread... it's a trap. Sooner or later they'll regret it and we'll have another Armageddon. I was hoping they'd be smart enough to avoid that this time. But it seems the pressure from WB is more than they can handle.

And yes, I am upset, because they are giving us... those who got them where they are and appreciate the series more than a casual ever will... the finger. Basically saying they don't care about us anymore and don't need us because they know they will sell anyway. Why bother? But they weren't always like that. Sadly almost all companies that become big forget their roots and fans and become shadows of their former selves.

The only thing that I don't like about this game - and it's really kind of a minor gripe for me - is that there isn't enough variety (YET) in the roster.

While I would like to see more new characters and more post-UMK3 characters, I'm considering this a minor gripe for 2 reasons
(1) We're getting classic characters back and there's nothing wrong with that at all.
(2) We don't know the full in-game and DLC rosters, so it's entirely possible that we're getting more new characters and characters from different eras.

(I've defended the returning characters in this game, but I think that was before Reptile, Ermac, Kitana, and Kung Lao were revealed - so right now, while I am ABSOLUTELY NOT complaining about getting two of my favorite characters back [Ermac and Reptile], I am looking forward to some fresh faces)

Just curious.. How exactly would you be marketing this if you were in charge?

1)NO MORE MK9 CHARACTERS!
Why should Liu Kang or Sonya return? Don't get me wrong, I understand that some people like these characters, but we ve seen them already. It's time for characters like Shinnok,Fujin,Tanya,Reiko,Sareena,Frost etc to get a chance. Even Bo Rai Cho (Who I hate) should have a greater chance than Liu Kang as I feel tired of doing the God Damn bycicle kick in every game. The thing I hate the most about the repeated MK9 roster is that it feels like NRS doesn't give a flying F*** for people whos supported their game through the post mk3 era, when MK wasn't that "awesome" for many people. I will honestly say that the character I want the most in the game is Shinnok. Nevertheless, if instead of Shinnok they put a fan favourite like Fujin or Tanya or Reiko or another post MK3 character, I would be happy cause then NRS will at least show some respect for us.
However it still very soon, and many things are about to be revealed. I just hope that time proves me wrong

What i don´t like:

-No Shinnok
-No Fujin
-No Kenshi
-Lack of more new characters revealed
-Most fatalities consist on destroy oponent´s head.
-Scorpion having a fireball when he has the spear and the hellfire summon.
-Reptile´s outfit.

Well..
1 - Liu Kang is iconic. He was also never confirmed as dead. Just a little crispy.
2 - Sonya didn't die. She's one of the few remaining earthrealm champions. Why wouldn't she return?

You're upset that with two months until the game comes out, NRS isn't giving you enough hype? Seriously? Just wait two months and get the game. Then no matter what the marketing has been - old characters, new characters, boring, exciting - won't matter one bit because... you'll have the game.

2 - Sonya didn't die. She's one of the few remaining earthrealm champions. Why wouldn't she return?

They were used as examples
Nevertheless:
ok in the same kind of logic:
Shinnok was teased and he is not dead, why shouldn't he return and liu kang should?
Fujin is not dead and is one of the fan fav. He is more importan than liu kang as he is a God
Kai is not dead and he is one of earthrealm's champions, why shouldn't he return?

the list goes on...

no more mk9 chracter cause we already saw them in MK9
let's see some old mk char that we didnt have the chance to see them.

This is my opinion,so I don't mean to offend anybody.:)

Kai is not dead and he is one of earthrealm's champions, why shouldn't he return?

You don't know that. Kai might be dead in this timeline, or he might have joined Shang Tsung. Or he might have joined Shang Tsung and then died!

I'm not into MKX Reptile (yet), and I'm not thrilled about Sonya being playable, but you have to admit that so far every single revealed MKX character at least makes story sense for inclusion. Reptile was in MK9 and survived, we know for a fact that Kung Lao and Kitana's souls are possessed by Quan Chi (and could potentially be restored after the Netherrealm War), Sonya if revealed was in MK9 and survived. Even Liu Kang, if revealed, won't "just" come back, he'll come back with an agenda.
