Tip to bypass the negative edge

I know a lot of people have problems with this. So did I until recently when I found a way around it.

For people that don't know what negative edge is, it's when the release of a button is stored. So in other words the games reads the input twice: when you first press the button and when you release it. Why is this a problem? Well because some characters have similar special moves that share the exact same command but end with different buttons.

For example Nightwolf has D, F, 1 and D, F, 2. So if I do: 2 xx D, F, 1, depending on how fast I input it a different special will come out. The problem you see is that the game stores the previous 2 input. So when I go for "D, F" after, it thinks I want to do D, F, 2. So it actually takes priority over 1 (which would be my next input).

I also had this problem with Stryker. The game was confusing B, F, 1 and B, F, 4 when I did D+4, B, F, 1. The B, F, 4 came out when I actually wanted the other special to come out.

Of course one way around this is simply to slow down your input. But this can still be problematic sometimes, especially in situations where you have no choice but to input it fast enough.

I found a simple way around it though. To avoid negative edge, I simply don't release the button I don't want the game to read twice. So with Stryker for example, I would go: D+4 (hold down 4), B, F, 1 then release 4. This way will make sure that 4 never takes priority over 1.

Of course on a regular controller (which is what I use) this is a bit hard to do. But if you have a stick it's a nice trick to learn.

Negative edge is a B!TCH for me when I use Jax.
Sektor also is sometimes a problem when I'm mixing up the air missiles.

I'll try this out later.
Props for the help.

Negative edge destroys Nightwolf, it gets very frustrating sometimes. When I input a simple uppercut, the stupid negative edge inputs his reflector! It's beyond ridiculous.

Thank you for the tip, I'm going to try it on later.

Negative Edge is bad for most characters! Anyone noticed that characters with. 3,1 as a combo starter, if you input 3,1 too fast, you get a throw instead :s

I have a huge problem with Sindel and Negative Edge.

If im on the left side, I can land her B3, F2 moves with ease and in combos. On the right hand side, I do her B3, F2 and I get her hair whip. I've never known a game like this with the combo system it has.

I mean you can almost "que" a combo, but you have to be 100% precise with the motion of the stick or D Pad. And the fact it remembers and prioritises the previous button over the one you press is nuts.

You mean when Jax starts randomly uppercutting the air 3 or 4 times? then you shout "WTF Jax... SU-P-ER-MA-N PU-N-CH!!!!!!"

I feel your pain.

Oh I hate it when I try to play as Kenshi, I try to down poke the opponent and he does his medium tele-slash it's really annoying.

Ha ha, that's why I stopped playing with him, it used to drive me crazy.

And Skarlet would throw her daggers when I tried to do the up slash after pressing b+1, 1

Seriously, I love this game, I've been playing this for several months, but it has a bunch of flaws. Can they fix the negative edge with patches?

Something I do to overcome negative edge is just press a different button right before the special.

Example: With Cyrax I usually end my combos with 1 2 1 Anti-Air. You can also end with Ragdoll. Anti-Air is DF1, and Ragdoll is DF3. If I want to do the Ragdoll instead I'll do 1 2 1 4 DF3 (or just DF by itself, that works too). The 4 in there doesn't do anything to the combo but I'll be able to do Ragdoll no problem. Normally without the 4 in there it will do Anti-Air right when I press DF, but since I added in the 4 in there really fast, I can do Ragdoll instead.

It's kind of hard to explain, hopefully you guys understand.

Nice Vulcan, thanks for this I learn something new everyday.

To be honest I kinda like the game being this way. I like technical games :)
