The Lazyiness of MK9's Fatalities and more...

I really hope that these fatalities aren't the final versions. For instance, Kitana's fatality is too plain to me. I hope they adjust that. Also, for Cyrax's fatality, they should add some fight for the victim before they just explode or fall into pieces.
 
The problem with fatalities...then and NOW

OK....so I am probably goin to get flamed for this...but I have a sneaking suspiscion alot of people are goin to agree...or atleast be in denial about it....

now dont get me wrong this game is looking stunning!
aside from the people playing it, jump, jump, jump, uppercut, jump upper cut, lather, rinse and repeat

But in my opinion, so far the majority of these fatalities SUCK!

Why do I think this?

Boon and co, have said in a number of interviews, that they have this state of the art internal modelling system, where brains will fall out of skulls, livers will come out, severing at the jaw line and the tongue will flap around, people split in half or opened up, entrails an organs will spill out, the limitless possibilitys in cutting people in different ways, etc etc.....

But so far we have seen NONE of this...example

Scorpion.
Fatality 1: cuts you in half....no innards nothing....a sword kill
Fatality 2: cuts you at the knees and does the exact thing, another sword kill...

do they not realise he has his spear? he could use that...so much could be done....his hell fire etc etc...I find it infuriating, he has 2 almost identical fatalities....this is just down right lazy...

Sub-zero.

fatality 1: spine and skull rip, then freeze and shatter, no complaints there...
fatality 2 : freeze and rip you in half (another torso rip)
why would sub zero do this? its out of character and maks no sense...
again the possibiltys are endless...yet we get this half baked idea...

fatality 1: the head rip again,is great no complaints
fatality 2: are you serious a kira rip off? and another torso rip...

sektor:
fatality 1 : blown in half leaving the lower section, more torso...
why not blow him up showing all the internal organs exploding every where...but no...we get them blown in half and bits, shot into blood mist....

fatality 1: simple, effective, still quite lame...why not scalp them or something? do some thing way more brutal....

fatality 2: the net is great although, why not fall into more pieces?
you can clearly see, the net would have made him into tiny cubes...if thats not possible...make the net bigger to indicate the lard portions severed...

fatality 1 : decap, and TORSO rip....looks cool...but its more of the same rehashing...

kitana
fatality 1 : meh, why not sever the head at the jaw line and do the toungue flap? no we get a simple decap....

kung lao
fatlaity 1: great, but where are the organs spilling out?
fatality 2: same as above....

reptile
havent seen any thing so i cannot judge...

so what if baraka is in, are we just goin to get another decap and torso slice? ppffftt

so all in all Im just saying its kind of dissapointing really...

so I ask, are they just lazy and uncreative, and are not utilizing this internal modeling to its full ability? because we can clearly see the organs. and innards in the xrays moves....or is it just more industry hype , and its actually non exisitant?

Id like to believe they are not utilizing it and what we have seen are place holders for now....because we have been shown quiet a bit, and the game is not due till april now! so I hope it changes....and what we have been shown is just there for the public testing of the game....

also hector an co said the fatalties are works in progess and we havent seen any thing yet and there is shit to be added....But now 4 months from the games release,this gamestop widget has come out...showing us EXACTLY what we have seen since e3! and NOTHING has chancge! so for all you people who told me to shut up and that the game is still being developed...no no its not! is done! and has been for a while...and what we have seen is what we will get....and it SUCKS! in terms of fatalties.....they havent tweaked or changed any thing...as a previous user said...they are focusing on those stupid slice points.... So this means, no exploding fatalities....So kitans kiss is gone...and if it happens it will be using those dumb slice points and creat a dumb ass block mk decpetion chunky look...yay NRS! YAY!

and before any one rips on me saying , "you think you could do better?"

yes, yes I do...with that tech at my disposal I could make much beter fatalitys...

any way love to hear every ones thoughts on this :P

I doubt you will get flamed, the laziness of the fatalities is actually quite widely discussed among forums. I've mentioned a number of times how it's disappointing to see all the internal detail going to waste.

Ok first of all, you WILL get flamed for this buddy so wish you good luck.
But I absolutely agree with you, you pretty much have the same opinion on this like me.
Scorpion needs more variety, not just that goddamn sword... I also hate how the legs are often left out of the fatalities(Sektor's, Cyrax's).
Sub-Zero's torso rip is probably mine least favourite fatality and also is it me or should the opponents actually scream during the fatalities? It kinda makes the fatality more enjoyable and all...The only fatality where opponents scream is Kung Lao's buzzsaw...

In my opinion MKSM had the best fatalities...

My guess is maybe the gore engine hasn't fully been put in yet. Although I don't have much of a problem with the fatalities I'm sure they'll improve something about them in the next four months. As for exploding fatalities, I've never seen an MK game with Kitana with out her kiss of death fatality. I'm sure they wouldn't stop now. They even had it in MK vs DCU even though it was way more violent then the other fatalities in that game. I'm sure it's coming.

Okay, honestly NR Studios HAVE TO KNOW that only decapitating, slicing, bloody, gory fatalities being in the game will come back to bite them in the ass. Surely they know that gaming critics will use that as a main negative when reviews for this game come out. It doesnt take a hardcore MK fan to know that the fatalities from the past involved setting on fire, melting, having organs ripped out, etc. There needs to be more variety.

And if organs is going to get ripped out... Leave a big hole in the gut! You can't see an entry hole or exit hole for Reptiles organ rip fatality... It's just plain lazyness!

I honestly liked burning and melting fatalities. Hopefully with Sonya, we'll see her Fiery Kiss of Death. Also maybe Reptile will have a fatality where he melts his oppenent with acid, I always loved that one.. One last one I enjoyed was the flesh being torn away leaving a bloody skeleton. Like Sindel's scream in mk3. Hopefully one of her fatalities does that, I prefer it more than her deadly alliance scream which rips the opponents body pieces off one by one....although that was cool.

I'm pretty certain every reviewer will know MK's lineage and gore is something almost celebrated in the gaming community, so why you'd surmise that it'll receive criticism for being too gory is beyond me. If anything, they'll have the same complaints as people here do.

On topic:
I also think gore is something we're just used to by now. This isn't 1993 and with games like GTA and Manhunt behind us, it's pretty hard to come up with gore that will actually shock people anymore. But I honesty don't want it to be too realistic because I just don't enjoy that kinda shit. I've seen real murders enough to know that's not something I want to see after a good game of MK.
 
but thats just it...we have internal organs, skeletons...and they are just being used for 2 seconds of xray! and no...I said this at the mid way forums and all those ****ers attacked me! lol I would think that reptile...would melt them to the bone like umk3 in a acidic mess of bones...or scorpion would do toasty and fry them to the bones....and I bet you the toasty dlc...will look EXACLTY like the mkv dc one....

I mean reptile for example....why would he puke the acide down their throat...step back an sadisticly watch as the acide burns through their stomach and entrails fall out? I mean have you guys seen the detial in the melted bodies on the hook on the dead pool stage? I mean why oculd reptile make them look like that?

its just soooo lazy , the mk games over the years have been more about stupid jokes,frienships,babalitys etc etc, mini games an secrets that dont exist (super unlockables) then actually making a good game...and capturing the dark,morbid grit of mk1-2

I think the team, boon an co are over it...they just dont know how to bring it...they need frsh blood an ideas....

People were complaining about fatalities long before this thread was created.

not at the midway forums they werent man...those guys are the biggest bunch of whiney ***** mk yes men youd ever meet

Thanks for the blatant flame. I doubt you'll last long here as well. I've said before what I wanted to say on fatalities, and that I'm indifferent to the ones in this game so far. I just hope they improve, and if they impress me, this game will be getting bonus points from me. Not impressed so far, but not disappointed either.

At least the stage fatalities are looking good. I'm sure they won't dissapoint with a melting body in the acid pool. Hopefully they do something with it, more then just a body falling in and skeleton rising.

The problem is: are the Scorpion's fatality the same? Or two differents ones?
Same thing for Mileena and Sub Zero.

Lol this game is going to have 15 torso rip fatality olol.

I doubt they will...I really wanna belive the will but I doubt it....

I mean...how they can create scorpion an reptiles fatalities and say yes! we have made some thing awesome! is insane....

Yeah they've become way too serious with the fatalities and repetitive, the humorous ones made the game even better. Too be honest, i was hoping for Mileena to swallow a jar of tacks or nails and spit them ferociously at the oppenent and watch pieces of them get torn away with the force.

Edit:
Can someone point me in the direction of Mileena's second fatality, I have yet to see it.
