Sub-Zero Thread - "Feel Death's Cold Embrace!"

Do you know what would be better?

If Sub-Zero gets his Ice Parry back, if you watch the first Sub-Zero gameplay you will see he has the Ice Parry move, so awesome, Its a shame NRS removed it to give it to CSZ...

Ice Parry would be too much. There's an Ice Clone up, someone tries to punish me with a startup armor special or a teleport, and they get parried? Sub-Zero would become literally untouchable if he had an Ice Parry on top of his Ice Clone. It would be like that situation when you asked Tom Brady i it was possible for Sub-Zero to get a teleport, and he cracked up. : P

Sub-Zero is already absolute top tier if used right. Any more buffs and people are going to start calling us all tier whores just for using him.

probably because he wouldve been considered too strong? i have a hard time complaining aobut moves "given" to csz tho cuz i main him :P

This. It's why I don't mind that his Ice Puddle is entirely underwhelming and I don't feel the urge for NRS to give Sub-Zero anything more. He's definitively top-tier already and giving him a buff would more than likely unbalance him.

I don't want sub-zero to become an overpowered character...

I don't either. I love him the way he plays now and don't want him to get a buff just so he can end up getting an even bigger nerf afterward. He's fantastic as-is.

That's not "Parry". That move is the ice clone when activated just as an opp. hits SZ.

You sure? That really, really looks like CSZ's Ice Parry. He even has the sword strike after freezing the opponent. I'm pretty sure Sub-Zero had Ice Parry and then either to balance him out or to better Cyber Sub-Zero, they gave it to CSZ.

Maybe I didnt explain myself, I meant that I would prefer Ice Parry rather than Ice Clone, though I agree with you SZ would become overpowered and he is already a Top tier, I was talking hypotetically.

@the video It is the Ice Parry you can see the sword strike too. Also he had it in a lot of videos not only this one, he also uses it in one of he videos that is in the Extras section of the game.

That is 100% the Ice Parry Cyber Sub-Zero has now. It was Sub-Zero's defensive move in earlier builds until NRS realized that it suits Cyber Sub-Zero far better.

If you want further proof, here is a more clear use of it at 2:18 of this video.

And thank god NRS changed it, because Ice Clone is my baby. By far my favorite move in the game.

Don't mean to sound like a douche but..

That's Subzero's parry. Up to this date If you choose CSZ and do his parry, you clearly see the move shown on the video I posted. Do I really need to explain any further?

Cross Jump Punch is when you Jump to the other side passing over the frozen opponent.

JP: Jump and Punch
NJP: Neutral Jump Punch (in Stance)
Croos JP: Jump over the opponent and punch him in the air when you are at the other side, is hard to explain...

Yeah I think I get it. Gonna be doing some training tonight so I'll try it out

Sub-Zero

Double Combos
35% Combo 9 Hits: [B+1,2 - Ice Ball - NJP]-[Ground Freeze - 2,1,4 - Slide]
37% Combo 10 Hits: [B+1,2 - Ice Ball - NJP]-[Ground Freeze - 2,1,4 - Power Slide]
45% Combo 10 Hits: [2,1,2 - Ice Ball - Dash - JK]-[Ice Puddle - 2,1,4 - Slide]
47% Combo 11 Hits [2,1,2 - Ice Ball - Dash - JK]-[Ice Puddle - 2,1,4 - Power Slide]
65% Combo 12 Hits: [2,1,2 - Ice Ball - Dash - JK]-[Ice Puddle - 2,1,4 - X-ray]

What is the timing between the njp/nk and the ice puddle/ground freeze? I haven't been able to get it right. The combo tracker always splits up the combo to 4 hits then 5. Do I hit the opp. with njp/jk on the head or feet? Then how soon do I execute puddle?

The ground freeze/ice puddle is a reset, thats why they are called Double combos, they are 2 combos linked together.

Coming to the topic of these double combos, I've been a curious about something lately. If you play Sub-Zero, you'll notice that the most possible damage you can do when freezing a jumping opponent far away is an Ice Slide. This is due to the fact that 3 seconds is not enough time to dash up to the opponent and NJP. I was wondering:

If you freeze the opponent in the air, far away, is it possible to coincide a ground freeze with the timing of their fall and give yourself a reset?

I'm going to try testing this idea when a friend comes over.

It's a good theory, Im leaving the house now but ill try when I get home again.

I don't think that's possible, but I hope I'm wrong...

now, this is in no way a jibe at sub zero players as i love him, but more a question in general. are resets considered ok? i mean because nrs are patching out infinites, was wondering if resets fell in the same vein. figured id ask here because you guys are currently discussing reset combos.

Yes they are ok, because they are avoidable, SZ's puddle/ground freeze reset can be avoided with a wake up attack.
