Sub-Zero Thread - "Feel Death's Cold Embrace!"

Re: Sub-Zero Thread - "Feel the Cold Embrace of Death"

i've recently started using fj1, b1, 2, ice ball, njp, fdash, 2, 1, 2, 1, slide/xray (BUT I do use 2, 2, as my beginner if im NOT starting with a fj1)

there is a much smaller window for error...

i find it much more reliable then the variations of fj1, 2, 2, ice ball, njp, fdash, 2, 1, 2, 1, 4, slide OR fj1, 2, 2, ice ball, njp, fdash, b1, 2, 2, 1, 2, slide

try it out it wont let you down :)

After JPS, both 22 and B12 are guaranteed hits as long as you press the correct input. So I don't understand what you are referring to with "window for error," unless you are referring to difficulty of pressing the correct input. I can't imagine 22 being more difficult for anyone to press than B12.

Personally, I use forward jump + 2 as my JPS. I find it far less difficult to press forward jump + 222 than any other string.

what does BnB stand for? imf kinda new to this code talk haha.also just on point to make. i typically use a timed ice ball after the enhanced slide. if timed properly it almost always hits. u have to fire it while the opponent is stuck in the rebound animation

BnB = Bread'n Butter = most used combos
Enhanced slide--->ice ball??? I'm going to try this asap thx!

*I finally mastered Sub-Zero :)

one note: it wont be a mid-air freeze it will be a standing freeze , but if timed properly you can string in another separate combo. jump to the opponent and begin with the jump punch.

Re: Sub-Zero Thread - "Feel the Cold Embrace of Death"

Quick question, and it may have been answered earlier in the thread, but:

Although most of the time it works correctly, sometimes the ice ball only freezes my opponent for about a second. I never know when or why it'll happen like that, so can anyone answer this question? Why does the ice ball occasionally short-freeze (best term I could think of) my opponent?

Re: Sub-Zero Thread - "Feel the Cold Embrace of Death"

howcome this thread isnt called sub-zero thread "this fight will be your last" ??

I used Bi Han's quote of the story mode when he faces sonya, i think it sounds better. Though it really is "Feel death's cold embrace" I changed it too "Feel the Cold Embrace of Death" by mistake.

Re: Sub-Zero Thread - "Feel the Cold Embrace of Death"

I just wanted to say this thread has made me a much better player. Big props to Fox17 I'd love to play you someday. I did win my local gamestop tournament (as Sub Zero of course) the night it came out and got 25 bucks off the game. :P All I play online is Sub Zero (full time job, gym, gf take up a lot of MK time haha) and I have to say the more I play him the more powerful he seems to me. :)

Yeah his guide is sweet.

Anyone ever fight a Sheeva who spams teleport stomp and you make an ice clone and duck under it. They proceed to jump into your ice clone. After about 2-3 of those they don't know what to do because that's all they ever did to win with her. I've made quite a few people laugh watching me play against her.

You hit them when they are in the air, that's why they only stay blocked for about 1-1.5 seconds

No no... I meant the 2, 1, 2, 1 xray/slide after njp has a much lower window for error then screwing up the timing doing 2, 1, 2, 1, 4, or b1, 2, 2, 1, 2 variations. I was only pointing out that I use 2, 2 if im not starting with jps because i will use b1, 2, as it's more dmging.

There is no window for error before the njp xD

But again, I find it much easier timing njp, 2, 1, 2, 1, xray/slide in laggy matches as opposed to other variation which have a bigger window of error because of the more accurate timing required. So that's why I've been using it as my bnb.

Do u mean NJP, 212xxXray/Slide or JumpInPunch,212xxXray/Slide?

If so, imo 214xxSlide is easier, but 214xxXray is a little bit tricky, because u have to hold the Xray for 0,5sec. Once u have the timing its no problem, I guess ;)

Re: Sub-Zero Thread - "Feel the Cold Embrace of Death"

No. You can link 2, 1, into another 2, 1, 4,/2, 1, 2, after njp's.

I meant what I said hehe, jps(JumpInStarter), b1, 2, ice ball, njp, 2, 1, 2, 1, slide/xray is easier to time rather then jps, b1, 2, iceball, njp, 2, 1, 2, 1, 4, slide/xray or jps b1, 2, iceball, njp, b1, 2, 2, 1, 2,slide/xray because the second two variations of this bnb are much harder to time.

I appreciate that, Fox17. Thank you as well. Congratulations on making the most posted character guide in TRMK.

Ohhh. Now that I understand what you mean, I want to give you a tip.

Let's pretend you are doing 22 - Ice Ball. There are three main combos that you can follow up with on the frozen opponent:

1) NJP - F dash - B12 - 212 - Ice Slide (30% damage; pushes opponent 8 body lengths)

2) JPS - 214 - Ice Slide (30% damage; pushes opponent 7 body lengths)

3) NJP - F dash - 21 - 21 - Ice Slide (25% damage; pushes opponent 7 body lengths)

The 1st combo is Sub-Zero's BnB. It does 30% damage, and pushes the opponent farthest.

The 2nd combo is a common variation on Sub-Zero's BnB. It does an equal amount of damage, but pushes the opponent 1 body length less.

The 3rd combo is your variation on Sub-Zero's BnB. It does 5% less damage, and pushes the opponent 1 body length less.

If the 1st combo is too difficult to pull off with online lag and you need to do a variation, that is understandable. But there is no reason to use the 3rd combo. You should use the 2nd combo. Compared to the 3rd combo, the 2nd combo does 5% more damage, pushes the opponent an equal length, and is even easier to pull off.

The same applies for X-Ray combos. Except, for X-Ray combos, the 2nd combo does even more damage than the 1st combo due to damage scaling. So even Sub-Zero users fond of the 1st combo should use the 2nd combo.

Use the 2nd combo, and I promise you will find it even more trustworthy than your variation.

Hope this helps.

when does subby ever say "feel the cold embrace of death" ??????

He says "Feel Death's Cold Embrace" when he faces Sonya in Chapter 2 of the Story mode.

My bad i put it wrong in the title but the meaning is the same.

its funny i started using the b1, 2, 2, 1, 2, i find it as easy as 2, 1, 2, 1 after practicing with it a bit you get used to the execution after the njp... easier then 2, 1, 2, 1, 4

i would say b1, 2, 2, 1, 2 is the best bnb variation

i actually never thought of using jps 2, 1, 4, because I figured njp 2, 1, 2, 1, would be more dmg(guess im not that smart LOL) but 2, 1, 2, 1, 4, still would do the most its just hard to pull off

thanks for your help & info :D good to discuss these things

Okay a question I have now jps I know is jump in punch starter. Now is that referring to a forward jump using 1 or 2 to start the combo ? I was trying it in practice mode assuming I was doing the right move it is a medium hit?
