Did Raiden turn "Dark" because of him "swapping" the corrupted Jinsei with the "Good" Jinsei that he possessed?

I thought this part of the ending was super unclear. Cassie implies that moving Raiden at all will kill him. The next time we see him he has glowing Revenant eyes. You'd think that he died and came back as a Revenant, as people are wont to do in MK... but apparently no. So he cleansed the Jinsei and then either got corrupted as a result, or just legitimately turned into a douchebag with like zero foreshadowing.

Sloppy any way you slice it.

Shinnok's corrupted energy most likely corrupted Raiden as well. Raiden used his own good energy to cleanse the Jinsei, so while lacking that and then having Shinnok's corrupted energy in him would most likely be why he turned dark. I thought it made sense.

Yeah, that's what I meant by him swapping/replacing the bad Jinsei with the good Jinsei contained in his being. I just wish they made it more clear.

Wow, that totally caught me off guard. I do remember listenning to that, I thought it was strange but I didn't over-analyse it at the time. Now, it does make sense and honestly I hope they explore that a little further in the future. Not the fact that he is homossexual, but the prejudice in the traditional structure of the Shaolin with its long history to accepting someone who can be regarded as sinful.

I really like what Raiden said to Kung Jin there. Pity he's a moron again.
Overall it was done very tastefully and I really appreaciated what they did there.

I already thought X story mode was MILES BETTER than MK9, but that dialogue between Kung Jin and Raiden is very beautiful!

That's what I took from it too.

Anyways, as far as story goes, I give it an 8.5 / 10.

Here are my main issue with story mode

Liu Kang, Kitana and Kung Lao are "alive" for the purpose of the main roster, in which their defaults aren't revenants.

1) How hard would it have been to have Liu, Kitana and Kung Lao in that ending scene where Raiden drops Shinnok's head to the ground, and have them be "restored," like Jax, Sub-Zero and Scorpion were when Quan Chi was stopped, shortly after MK9?
They would be cured / freed of Quan Chi and Shinnok, no?

2) A human skin could have also been unlockable in the Krypt?

3) Why even bother giving Liu, Kitana and Kung Lao old skins, then?
Why not just give them the human skins they had before they died?
According to the story they're still dead / zombies / revenants, so they didn't age in the 25 years, right?

4) Isn't Jade a dead revenant too?
I don't really care for Jade, but her not even getting a cameo role kinda left me like "Huh?"
Where the hell was Jade?

5) No sign of Noob Saibot / Bi-Han = another middle finger to fans of the character, and NRS just left that cliffhanger without confirming what happened to him after MK9.
Soooooooooooo, I'm guessing that (much like Jade, Sheeva, Cyrax and Shang Tsung) not being in MKX story mode = being dead, so Noob Saibot is dead?
So damn vague as what happened to Bi-Han / Noob.

I just find those 5 parts of the story to be so damn lazy.
Vogel and his team couldn't have done something simple, like what I explained in example #1?

Aside from those things, for the most part, though, I thought that the story was great.
I see people online (not specifically here) b****ing about the deaths in MKX story mode, but I thought they were fine.
Don't care for Sektor, Baraka, Mileena and Shinnok being dead.
No one stays dead in MK forever, right?
I'll also gladly take 4 MKX story mode deaths in MKX over a stupid Sindel MK9 death scene -which is pointless in MKX- because the characters are back anyways for MKX.
The rest of the dead / revenant characters were explained well, in my book.

From NRS' perspective, those characters having human skins is purely for consistency with other characters in the roster, and I quite like the 'what if?' looks they have anyway. It's definitely better than them being revenants and not having human skins, but I suppose they could indeed have just switched them. Even though I personally don't think those characters should have been in MKX, I actually quite like the way NRS have implemented them, and judging by your remark about having them in the Shinnok scene, I take it you didn't watch after the credits? :D

Also, I suggest you check out the concept art for those characters, as there's some interesting information there from the devs.

Finally, point five... just an absolute stab in the dark here, but I think Noob may end up being a secret fight in one of the living towers.

I did watch the after credits scene, which is why I'm confused as hell.
Didn't Raiden purify the Jinseng (or whatever it's called) and kill Shinnok?
Why are those 2 still dead (Kitana and Liu Kang), then?
The spell that Quan Chi and Shinnok had on them when they died should have been broken with Quan and Shinnok both being dead, no?
That's at least what NRS explained happened with Jax, Sub-Zero and Scorpion, when Sonya and Raiden temporarily stopped Quan Chi.
I guess NRS was cherry-picking which characters that rule applies to, given that they needed more "evil" characters.

As for point #5, I seriously doubt that Baraka, Noob Saibot, Cyrax, Sektor or Rain will be the secret fight in the Tower.
If anything my money is on Fujin, but even that doesn't seem likely, either, IMO.

I need to let you all know that I flipped the freak out when I saw Frost. I couldn't care less that she got frozen again, I flipped out.

I don't normally take guesses, but I'm going out on a limb and saying she's a possible DLC. There's a lot of mentions and cameos of her not to do something. Even in a freaking interaction between Sub-Zero and Sonya, she's being talked about.

I'll be a little disappointed if nothing happens but with the amount of stuff of her with X, I have no doubt she will be seen in the future.

Fan girl-ism done.

And nope, my hearing has been damaged. I can't hear anything below normal pitch out of my left ear unfortunately. :-(

If it makes you feel better, one day I got hit in the back of the head with the slide of one of my own Trombone brethren :( No one leaves band without a few battle wounds lol

We've been consistently trolled about Fujin. If he's not the unlockable character (and I know people don't think there is one) then I don't think he's in the game. Boon is just being a dick.

We know there will be secret fights because there's an achievement for finding one, and they wouldn't be secret if they were existing characters. I suppose they could be one of the NPCs from story mode, and some may be (if there are multiple fights), but I just have this feeling that Noob could be one. Why? Because they know he's a fan favourite and he's been conspicuously absent. There's been absolutely no sight of him at all.

If he's in, though, he'll just be an MK9 copy and paste job like the others.

Story mode was pretty good. Cutscenes were pretty much well done as well as dialogue and character design. Some points:

- I wish they would've returned at least Kung Lao from the revenants to actually face Liu Kang later on to get some spotlight. In MK9 he got his neck snapped in a cheap way and now only his ass kicked. Could've been better.

- Kotal Kahn is dumb as hell.

- It was shame that Quan Chi was changed from MK9's evil mastermind style to the point where pretty much everyone kicked hiss ass.

- They made Bo Rai' Cho likeable, even though he was on screen very little time. Would've been nice to actually see what happened to him after all.

- "Shinnok's amulet. Mileena has it"
"Damn" - Lovely how neutral Jax is.

- Sub-Zero having playable chapter was kind of useless.

Yeah, band is dangerous!!!

Glad someone brought Quan Chi up, oh MAN was he just a mess throughout this story. Last game had him virtually acting like a god himself and now he goes out with a stomp to the noodle! Wowsers I was just laughing so hard at Quan Chi's role.

Sad to say we couldn't do a fatality bit on him like we did with D'Vorah... Which I totally was not paying attention to and completely missed inputting it!

Quan Chi was one of the best things about MK9. He wasn't part of the original trilogy and yet he slotted into those stories without you even noticing he shouldn't have been there. He had a great role, and I loved his tag team battle with Shang Tsung. The twist at the end was great too.

As simplistic as it was, I think MK9 had a much better story than MKX. Sure, the cinematics are a generation ahead now, but the writing was all over the place and it felt like entire chapters were missing. By contrast, MK9 felt like a complete story, and in all honesty I don't think that MKX's story has the pacing or quality of writing to do a non-linear approach justice.

It's also slightly depressing that we were teased with Havik in the comics, and MKX was literally just Boon repeating his previously admitted mistakes from MK4, albeit with more gloss, better dialogue and copying and pasting Dark Kahn in at the end.

MKX is more cinematic, but it definitely isn't better.

The highlight of the story is the cameos.

And I don't HATE the story, I just think they tried to squeeze to much into the story to make it longer. If this game was solely about the Netherrealm War or solely about the Outworld Civil War things would've been different. And Quan Chi was a total joke in story mode, I think he was pretty useless throughout.

Edit: Also about Kung Jin being gay, I thought he was because of his dialogue with Raiden and didn't see anything between him and Cassie so yeah. On another note I really hope they develop his personality because he's way too jerk-ish.

Yup.
The ONLY 3 characters that have a valid explanation for being "free" are Jax, Sub-Zero and Scorpion.
The others (Liu, Kitana and Kung Lao) being alive and on the MKX roster are simply there to appease those that were complaining that "Waaaaaaaaah, _____________ isn't in MKX," as there is NO explanation WHATSOEVER in story mode about how they came back alive again.

For those complaining that certain characters aren't in MKX (not you Kitty) because they are dead / revenants, it seems like dick kicking is now the requirement for characters to come back from the dead.
The secret lies within Quan Chi's semen.
Now Raiden is in charge.
Soooooooooooooooo......... quick, someone, send Johnny to punch Raiden in the balls so that Kabal, Jade, Smoke and Nightwolf return in the next game for MK11, too.

You're overthinking this. Kung Lao, Liu Kang and Kitana don't come back alive. They died at the end of MK9 and they stay dead. They just have human costumes for consistency with the other characters, and you can unlock their revenant ones. There is no 'story' behind how they came back to life because they don't; their primary costumes are completely non-canon.

This is actually mentioned in Kung Lao's concept art, by the way.

I'm not over-thinking anything.
They're normal on the roster again, regardless of being revenants in the MKX story, JUST to appease the fans.
My point still stands that there's a gap that should've been covered in story mode or otherwise.

Human skins should have been the unlockable skin after beating the "Klassic Tower," not the other way around.
It's the same way that maskless Kuai should have been the default (even though I'm more of a Bi-Han fan) because it makes more sense story wise.
