SPOILER ALERT:Mortal Kombat X DIGITAL COMIC DISCUSSION

Defenders of the Realm was most likely made because the popularity of the movie since Mortal Kombat was one of the most popular films during the summer of 1995. The first MK movie was PG-13 and had a big merchandise line for the film. Threshold knew that kids saw the movie and played the games at the Arcades despite being a franchise made for adults. I think a R rated MK series can work these days since we have Toonami on Adult Swim. MK and Toonami are both own by Time Warner. Toonami can have American animated shows as long if they are action base shows. HBO would be cool but I remember Ed Boon saying that a MK show on HBO would be very pricey.

I think a live-action Mortal Kombat series would fit best on The CW.
As for an animated series, Adult Swim would be a safe bet.
HBO? Don't see it happening. Too risky and expensive indeed.

Guys ,

What more could the producers cover??there is no point in any other cartoon series or live action series unless it's going to be another non cannon show..

I think it doesn't matter which character you play unless the normal game mode and this one are separate. And its gonna be more like you start the game choose your side and then can play what ever character you want but earn points fort the side you choose at the start, which gonna change how the game looks and maybe even influences the challanges, therefor giving everyone who plays the feeling that the contributed to the game. So basically you got different themes for the game menu and all that but are not choosing one but rather playing for that the one of your alliance/side stays the one which everyone has. And the Challanges might change based on what alliance is right now on the top.

This is what it sounds like, much like when you pick a PSN or Xbox username.
Pick a faction before going online and that's the faction that you stay with.

On the topic of factions:
I always find it funny that people forget that Reiko served as a member of the Brotherhood Of Shadow under Shinnok, and they auto-assume that to just be Noob Saibot.

I'm specifically talking about a MKX animated series based on the comics. Not an ongoing series that'll last 5 or 6 seasons. Just enough to cover the comic's however many issues it ends up being. From what little we have seen it's pretty good. And it's a damn shame many people will never see the story because it requires reading.

Although it wouldn't happen I would be interested in a MK animated series that covers the entire old timeline with the show 'ending' with Kahn winning Armageddon.

Now that's a good idea..I'd be into that...they'd have to let us know that this is specifically based off the old timeline or before the reboot .

The CW?! lol No way in hell. FX or HBO (or one of those other subscription based channels).

Truthfully you don't need to be ridiculously brutal and be on FX or HBO. If we're talking live-action, I think Hannibal is probably closer in tone to what they'd want. You can have people get cut in half and still be on basic TV. The only thing you really can't have is nudity, swearing, and excessive violence.

TBF, Arrow and Flash are pretty damn good.

Oh I'm not putting the network down or anything. But if MK is going to get done right, it will never make it to the CW or anything like that. It's too violent and gory. It would have to be watered down to a point that makes it almost not worth it.

I remember Ed Boon saying years ago that a MK show on HBO would be too much money. I rather see a proper MK animated series first. Toonami would be a good spot for Mortal Kombat since it's a action theme show. As long they don't put it past 1:00 AM.

I've always wondered how it would be received if they did a live-action Mortal Kombat that had the gore.

Mortal Kombat I thought was a great movie. Of course it has its flaws, but I always saw it as one of the best movie adaptions despite it being rated PG-13... And here, we had people going absolutely nuts for Mortal Kombat vs DC Universe being rated Teen.

I don't get why that was a problem.

But I definitely would love to see another show, I never saw any of the shows that Mortal Kombat has had, even with Legacy. It never caught my interest, I never saw the cartoon because I didn't know what time and what channel, and I never saw Conquest either.

Yeah.

I have high hopes for this new digital series. If it's canon then I don't see them screwing shit up so bad like Legacy.

Can't wait to see Bo' Rai Cho.

Yeah.
Youre not missing anything with legacy. I hate when these directors take creative liberties and just butcher characters i love, then act all smug like their work is so good. Even that movie trailer was off but at least it looked good.

I think they could get away with mostly MK1 levels of gore. People always ask for the gore, but really canonically speaking, there shouldn't be mass amounts of death of main characters. Bi-Han was the only one to bite the dust in the first tournament and he was burnt to death.

I think the importance should be of maintaining a serious tone while telling a good story. No need to force excessive gore into it just because MK got famous for fatalities. Supernatural can be rather brutal too and I think that level of violence is perfectly fine for a MK show. In my opinion anyways.

(I still rather have an animated series)

I agree. Reiko was a member, as was Noob Saibot, Ashrah, and the trio of ladies from Mythologies, Kia, Sareena, and Jataaka. Also, Tanya was affiliated with them and let's not forget Quan Chi was the leader.

Neither do I. Particularly, I thought Jerrod was that kind of characters that just existed to put a certain explanation to something.

Well, but I think we can consider canon that he is part of what Ermac is today, though that ending is not.

Anyway, I don't think anybody needs to die to become an oni.

Well, that can be Drahmin's story, but Moloch, Quan Chi.

I think they were born that way. No wonder what twisted way it happened.

It's pretty whack that even though he's possibly the biggest villain of the series storywise, we still know nothing about Quan Chi.
