So let me get this straight.

Sorry, I just don't see the need to make a new game anytime soon, and by having all these DLC characters come out now, evidence seems to point to the contrary. He also said that Bo'Rai Cho wasn't going to be in the game either....that doesn't mean there is going to be a sequel with him in it. If they did release a new MK, I forsee it being on a next gen console, or at least a few years from now. No need to fix what isn't broken. Besides, if you did take 'this game' into the literal sense, they could make an iphone app adventure game staring Fujin and Bo'Rai Cho....not saying it will happen, but you opened the door. ^ _ ^

I don't say i disagree with you, MK9 is still a new game and i also like to see a lot and a lot of DLC but this doesn't mean MK10 is not going to happen. Here is a msg from Boon from ex

noobde RT @Bad_Boy_Brazil @noobde Is there
going to be a Tag Team Fatality? Noobde: MK10
Baby. MK10.

So its 4 characters for this summer or just these 4 characters and thats it?... Im kinda lost on the DLC plan thingy.

They haven't said and they're not going to because they're wanting to see how well the first 4 characters are received. If people like them (and buy them) then we'll probably get more.

Seeing the comments I'm sure the 4 DLC characters will have a good impact. Kenshi is one of the most popular characters post UMK3 and Rain is the #1 requested character to be DLC.
I hope they continue giving support to this game and MK10 is not announced anytime soon.

I'm pretty sure they will keep doing DLC for a good year. I'm confident that MK9 will be solid for a year or 2 until casual gamers get bored and want a sequel. If they keep adding DLC at this rate along with tweaks to fix game mechanics and other stuff, MK9 will do fine. I'm already anxious to see the DLC characters for next season. If I'm lucky, they will slide Bo Rai Cho my way. That will make me happy enough.

I'm actually almost positive that NRS will continue to support this game as long as fans do the same. I think the most would be 10-12 DLC characters, since there really aren't too many characters to pull from the MK series that could assure a buy from the community. They might even release holiday themed characters, costumes, or arenas. Silly as that may sound to others, but it keeps the game fresh and keeps gamers interested, casuals or fanboys. :)

- They don't necessarily have to worry about securing retail space to get their product out since it's a digital release
- All that DLC could very well end up costing more to buy than buying a copy of MK10
- Builds off an already successful game rather than having to take a chance with a different game
- It could be very easy for them to bring out an Ultimate Mortal Kombat 9 as new retail release with all the new content for $40-60

That would totally make sense --- but it's still not MK10. It's MK9 upgraded, like they did for those Rock Band/Guitar Hero song packs, or like what they did for Super Street Fighter IV. It's not a new game, it has new content, or added content, but it's not an entirely new game. I think that was the subject at hand; are they making an MK10, because although the release of an Ultimate Mortal Kombat 9 is and sounds bad ass, it's still not an MK10.I picture that being an entirely different game.

- Digital releases would need to be followed up by hard copies put out in stores or they'd miss a certain demographic
- They'd have to be really confident that this game will age well and remain supported by the fanbase for since a sequel wouldn't hit shelves anytime soon
- The hype for DLC releases wouldn't hit the casual audience as hard as news of a sequel would
- (Relating to above) the casual players will probably have drifted away from the game by the time they start releasing a lot of DLC and won't be looking for more MK until a sequel is announced

Most fighting games do age fairly well. It usually takes about 2-3 years before an actual sequel hits shelves. Again, sequel, not a spin off, not a collaboration, a straight up sequel, again like they did for Street Fighter or even Marvel Vs Capcom. I can understand trying to target an 'everyone' kind of audience, but at the same time with the amount of focus they're putting on fans and fan feedback, it doesn't seem like they (NRS) would be like, "Yeah, not enough people bought the DLC...the online community is slipping....quickly, we must release MK10 before they all switch to the Soul Calibur V!" Or maybe I just have that kind of faith in people. :D

I wasn't suggesting it would be MK10, I was comparing the price of doing it your way as opposed to releasing a whole new sequel.

I wasn't suggesting that they would panic and release a sequel just because. But if the game doesn't age terribly well and DLC sales are lower than expected then they'll stopped putting out more DLC. The sequel won't (or at least shouldn't) be rushed because of how the game ages, it should come out when it is ready and only then.

My response was in now way trying to shoot you down and say your idea sucked, I've actually clearly stated that I like your idea lol.

Dont worry dude Rain and Kenshi (specially Rain) will make many sells to encouarge NRS to keep realesing DLC's and start plans for a sequel.

Oh I see great amounts of money flowing into NRS' coffers because of the DLC characters, I was just playing devil's advocate. No point in having a debate or anything like that if only one side is being portrayed lol.

I know, Im just argumentative. ^ _ ^

But if they keep releasing freebies (like costumes) and characters in bundles and stuff, it doesn't matter if the DLC content matches the sales price of the original game...people will still buy it. I think if they just fixed their online coding, made matches faster to find, and with less lag, the turn out would be extraordinary.

I mean all they need is Rain and itll be like MKT right? Hopefully DLC will be a few MK4 characters. All the characters after that (besides Kenshi obviously and maybe Frost or a few others) should wait until the next game.

well to be technical wasn't Khameleon and Chameleon both in UMK3 :\

with 10 new characters they could just do a new update to mk9. even that has a better chance of happening than nothing at all after mk9.

Of course. There's just one thing, what other characters could we get free DLC for? Possibly Cyborg Smoke and a Cyber Sub-Zero alt?

Ummm the rest of the characters that costumes don't look too much like their MK3 costumes. Like Sindel, Sonya, Shang Tsung, ect. And hopefully give ALL characters classic fatalities and not just their 3 favorites.
